Heavy police presence on Sunday following reports of various fatalities over the Bank Holiday weekend (mostly two wheelers, as they invariably come off worst in a collision). Those of you who know the road will know the stretch from Wetwang (yes, seriously, multimap it) to the Fimber roundabout. Its a long, straight, downhill (from Wetwang) stretch. It is difficult NOT to speed, and tempting to use the space and the clear view to overtake two caravans in one go... A mobile (unmarked) unit was parked up on Sunday, with what looked remarkably like a large video camera too. I was travelling South, and, it has to be said, was fortunate (along with the BMW en suite to me) that the mobile unit attached to the camera was already engaged having stopped a 4x4 who I had seen earlier driving "vigourously". So good, old fashioned policing still takes place in Yorkshire: I had seen 3 traffic cars visibly parked up on the journey from Sutton bank already that day. I know the run to Helmsley is one of the best biking roads around, but, be careful out there, in all senses of the words, whether you're driving two wheels or four.

On Saturday I did Hull to Fridaythorpe then on to York for some fresh rubber and then back to Fridaythorpe for another brew, then home.
They are concentrating hard on the B1248 and other biker runs in the area. Plain VFR800 in silver and a marked bike to assist. VFR equipped with Provida and camera.
They are also running plain Subarus/Skodas depending on who is available over the weekend.
Wednesday (biker night) and the weekend are being covered. North Yorks are running something similar around the A64, Hemsley and Sherburn. Evereryone on the campaign has to complete at least 10 stops.
Spoke to the Humberside crew as they pulled into Fridaythorpe for some lard. Bit of high viz to make the bikers aware.
Some inside knowledge - if you know what I mean ;-)

Sadly not just bikes. This on the Beeb this morning.
A man died and two children were badly hurt after a VW car and lorry collided on an East Yorkshire road.
Seven people were airlifted to hospital by three helicopters after the accident on the B1248 near Bainton on Monday evening.
I've noticed that the new double white lines to the North of Bainton don't seem to have had much effect. Is that what the little "parking space" is for?

Plod were out there again today. Almost running a convoy system between Wetwang and Bainton. Marked up Volvo and a guy with a shoulder mounted video camera taping everything approaching Bainton on the 1248. Could he have been a TV cameraman for that 'traffic cops' program?? The helicopter was up as well.

Traffic Cops are coming back for another series anytime soon so could well have been. Had a run that way myself mid afternoon and noticed a heavy presence.

It gets worse! On local TV tonight - now dressing up a scarecrow with a high viz jacket and a helmet and moving it around the village of Wetwang as another reminder to motorists. I kid you not.
Come to think of it where has my high viz jacket gone??

FC - I well remember that straw plod from a few years ago during the scarecrow competition, just past the name sign. ISTR he was holding a pushbike.
At the time it was remarked that it had more of an effect on vehicle speeds than anything else.
