  • vectra v6 fan belt 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I had it changed and thought no more until four weeks ago the same happened, had it changed once again thinking perhaps a dodgy belt or just a coincidence but now 12 days later and about 300 miles covered this ones done the same. Obviously there seems to be a problem with one of the pulleys but there are i think seven to choose from, alternator, a/c, etc etc. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated as i don't wanna spend a small fortune on a car thats probably only worth 1500 quid tops and i'm too nice to sell it to someone with this problem without telling them.
  • Filter change tip 9 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Just thought I'd share a tip with those of you who regularly do their own oil & filter changes. (It may have been posted before, but I haven't checked). If your car has an oil filter that points downwards, e.g. the open end is lower than the covered end, it is difficult to get the filter out without spilling the oil it contains around the engine bay. My wife's Scenic has this type of filter orientation and having spent ages in the past trying to mop up the oil spillages, getting my hands & arms snagged on all the pipes and connectors, etc., etc., I thought about a solution.
  • "Whistling" Omega V6 18 Dec 2002 (Forum)
After having the rocker covers replaced on my Omega 3.0 a few months ago, I noticed a strange whistling noise on startup combined with a slightly rough idle. This has progressively got worse and now you can easily hear it several meters away from the car even with the bonnet closed.
  • Satnav, car keys and house keys 28 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Just a suggestion. Forgive me if if this has recently been covered on here. May I suggest people don't have car and house keys on the same keyring. If you do and you have a satnav in your car, with a 'Home' option, don't be surprised that if your car is stolen you find your house broken into shortly afterwards.
  • Borrowed car from brother - it's been stolen... 26 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi. With my brothers permission, I borrowed his car as mine was at the mechanics, and he was going on holiday. Travelled to see family last night, and the car has been stolen overnight. I drive his car via TP insurance of my policy, so I'm not named on his and my insurance doesn't cover theft of any other car.
  • any - The Sun. attack on nhs cars 5 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I do wish the headline  grabbers would consider this, and also consider the lower grade staff who are poorly re-imbursed for their essential use. we have given up using my car to take her to anywhere as the costs are no longer covered.
  • RTA advice 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My bike is wrecked - back wheel competely smashed where he impacted me, which at least proves he hit me. My bike is covered under my household contents, but I don't know if that covers claims against others? His vehicle does not come up on the insurance database as being covered. So how do I claim against him? Do I get his details from the Police?
  • Material insurance exclusion - check your policy!! 22 Jun 2017 (Forum)
You may be driving a car that's had an accident and if you need to claim at some point from Admiral, you should know that you may not have the cover you think you have. Most of us know that there are exclusions for certain things that won't be covered, for which there is a limit or there are terms explaining how certain events might be dealt with (such as damage caused by a stolen car).
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Ford Direct warranty or lack of it 22 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The cars previous owner had delayed the first service until 14000 miles so i was aware the manufacturers 3 yr warranty was void, but was comfortable with the ford direct 2 yr warranty and this included 2 yrs breakdown cover.

  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - 08 2.0 lots of stone chips 3 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The front of my car is covered in stone chips and lots of them. You aspect some in everyday driving but not this many there are simply loads and I only do about 8000 miles a year. Colour of the 6 is Dark Red. I am wondering if it is poor quality paint used by mazda but not sure how a could sort the problem as they are likley to say it is every day wear on the car but I have never had a car so prone to getting so many chips.

  • Smokey 1997 406 1.9td 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Hi, i am the owner of a rather smokey 1997 Peugeot 406 1.9td. I have owned the car for two and a half years now, but in the last few months it has become quite smokey. The car uses no oil and runs fine so it cant be a worn out engine. (engine has covered 150k) and no lights have come up on the dash to say there is a problem with the injector pump.
  • Advice On Buying A VW Polo 4 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Hi there, I am thinking of buying a vw polo 1.4SE W reg (2000) 75 BHP. The car has covered 23000 miles and seems in good condition..there a two slight scrapes on the rear bumper but thats about it. It has full service history, with the last two services from local garages. In the last service the tooth belt, which I assume is the cam belt, was changed.
  • Jump-start using a Volvo V70? 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi Wanted to jump-start a car using the Volvo V70 as the good-battery car. The manual tells you where to connect cables when you want to jump-start the V70 itself (using terminals under bonnet rather than direct to battery in boot) but not what to do where the V70 is the good-battery car.
  • Accident write off. 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Assuming: 1) The insuers arranges collection to a garage who then quotes for repair. The insurers write the car off, and the car is collected from the garage (not know where taken) The insurers make an offer 2) The car is still owned by you. 3) If you turn down the offer (below reasonable market value), who is reponsible for the storage fees - the insurer or the policyholder, whilst an settlement is agreed?

  • Car security. 30 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I wish to improve the secuity on my ancient '88 Jetta 16v. All the car has at present is a set of armoured door plates, a set of looking wheel nuts, and a Jetta GL badge on the back. A friend has commented that he doesnt think i will see an insurance premium reduction from fitting a CAT2 immobiliser, so i have considered an autolock total enclosure steering cover, and a cheap alarm which i will fit myself- suggesions on which alarm are welcome.
  • Alfa Romeo Giulia - Part of inner wheelhouse painted with Hammerite 15 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Hi all, part of my inner wheel house has been painted with Hammerite (regular, not car-specific). Before painting, I'm told the car had very, very mild first stages of rust. The car took a hit to its quarter panel. It's a rather recent car (2021). Would you keep it, or try to scrub it off and cover with epoxy primer + waxoyl or similiar?
