  • Skoda Felicia 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I am interested in a good solid reliable workhorse that won't cost too much to keep running. I am not concerned about what it's like to drive (unless it's really horrid) Yes or no? Please advise.
  • Audi A3 temperature warning 24 Nov 2005 (Forum)
No other problems / obvious issues - checked cooling system - no problems obvious then or during long / short drives. Before I spend money on a diagnosis do any BRs come across this before ? Looking to replace this car soon with a Mondeo as MrWibble Jr is soon to be delivered by Stork Express.
  • Vapour lock? I hope so...Fiat Coupe 21 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The Coupe won't start this morning. She was started for a very short time on Saturday, to be moved up the drive, and switched off again. That's the last time she was used. Is this vapour lock? If so what can I do to cure it? God knows, at the moment I'm just praying it ain't the cambelt The alternator belt is still going round, does that tell me the belts are fine?
  • 2003 Astra 1.6 Sport. ABS or not? 21 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I am an IAM observer and my associate drives a 2003 Astra 1.6 Sport. While talking through cockpit checks we noticed that the car does not have an ABS lamp. I don't want to try and get him to lock the wheels, but does anybody know if this car is fitted with ABS?
  • Vile smelling screenwash 18 Nov 2005 (Forum)
When mixed in the reservoir and used on the screen there is a ghastly stink of bad eggs and I really do have to put the aircon onto recirculate to stop the smell. I have drained it all out once and replaced it, to no effect; luckily I drive alone most of the time and don't have to put up with any banter about curries etc!
  • Traffic lights - countdown 16 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Just back from a couple of weeks spent in Malaysia. Did some driving in Penang. An interesting experience dodging the mopeds/buses/lorries/monkeys. On some of the traffic lights they have a countdown telling you how many seconds until they change. So you sit at a red light and a red counter says how many seconds until the change to green.
  • New Panda misfire 9 Nov 2005 (Forum)
On first driving off on cold mornings my New Panda with the 1.2 petrol engine seems to misfire just for a few seconds. As this engine is also used in the Punto, if there is a common fault I'm sure someone out there will be aware of it.
  • Ford Fiesta - Battery Power Loss 7 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hope someone can help My wifes aging fiesta is suffering from all sorts of problems, however, this morning, driving along there seemed to be a lack of battery power (although the car started first time). At one point, the radio turned off, the blower worked at half speed and the internal and external lights were all very dim.
  • Honda lock up 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
A friend advised today her three month old Honda locked up whilst driving, she cruised whilst fighting with the steering wheel with lights flashing all over the dashboard. Eventually it freed up and she took it straight to the Honda garage where from 11.30 to 4.00 it was studied by the mechanics who said it had happened a couple of times before and started muttering about replacing the steering rack.
  • creaking ford focus 21 Oct 2005 (Forum)
p.s having driven two different hire cars over the last month a corsa and micra.it reminds you how brilliant the focus is to drive.
  • Comfortable ride 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
But there's one thing thats really annoying me - I want to know how to make the car a smoother ride. While driving, the car is kind of okay, but shakes and to be honest, I hate it! I want the ride to be as smooth as, say, a BMW. What would I need to replace/do to make that happen? I'm no mechanic, so I need help from you lot!
  • Speeding (mostly excl cameras) Vol 33 18 Oct 2005 (Forum)
HJ in yesterday's Telegraph: ". . . It's best to drive with one wheel over the middle of the hump and the other on the flat. You get more of a shock and the springs suffer more, but you are less likely to cause tyre or steering alignment damage. People who install these humps should be made liable for consequential damage.
  • Insurance dealings 15 Oct 2005 (Forum)
My father had an accident which was the fault of the other driving. In trying to deal with the claim, he has only been offered £200 because of the low value of the car. Now the car has a scratch all the way from the rear to the front and the mirror was ripped off following a minor scrape with the vehicle in question.
  • golf mkIV stalling -speed sensor??? 8 Oct 2005 (Forum)
My golf 1.6SE starts fine but within 5 minutes of driving the temperature needle goes up to 90 and the car stalls when the car is next stationary. Takes a few seconds to restart and after i set off i feel a staggered resistance to accelleration. But it only stalls once.
  • yes my 306td again 6 Oct 2005 (Forum)
firstly thanks to every1 that has helped so far in getting my 306 working again, the car now runs and drives like new with no sign of the white smoke issues i was having or poor starting, only thing now is that when i floor it and the turbo cuts in there is a visible puff of blue smoke, any ideas on the cause of this?
  • Fuel economy figures 27 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Does this mean that the aerodynamic differences between cars counts for nothing, and that is why two different cars will get different figures in the real world, despite having similar offical figures? -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Avensis, Mazda 6 or Mondeo? 20 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Advice and opinions sought. I am thinking of buying a new car, principally for SWMBO, but I will drive it from time to time. The choice is between : Toyota Avensis, Ford Mondeo, Mazda 6, with Honda Accord and Nissan Primera as second string. It MUST have Auto box and cruise control, I would ideally like sat. nav. and diesel - which rules out all of them except the Ford.
  • Nissan Primera for 160 quid 18 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Anyway, anyone got any tips about what I should be watching out for on this car? I only got it last week and plan to drive it over to Calais on Saturday. Is it the usual oil level, fluid level and tyre pressures I should check before my trip? Thanks.
  • Focus 1.8 idle 23 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 1.8 w plate Focus ghia which for the last few days has suffered from a rough idle at both cold and warm, though at cold it is a bit worse. It also feels a bit rough if you drive along in gear and take your foot of the accelerator letting it roll along. The first morning when it started i had to pull over as the revs started climbing out of control. But when i re-started it it seemed ok.
  • Cat damage with leaded petrol 13 Aug 2005 (Forum)
With reference to a Q & A in last week's HJ Telegraph column from someone planning to drive to North Africa, what would be the physical effect of using leaded petrol in a catalysed vehicle? At some point the active material in the cat is presumably neutralised or destroyed and it has to be replaced to meet the MoT test, but are there any side effects such as bad running or confusion for the ECU once the damage is done?
