  • Scorpio Cold Starting 19 Sep 2001 (Forum)
As a complete non mechanic perhaps you could advise on the following:- Last winter my scorpio 2.9 12v would start without a problem but then stall immediately if i didnt keep the revs up and generally act as if the leads were faulty until it warmed up. Then no problem. My local Ford dealer to his credit, refused to take the car in and said change the oil to 5w/40 ( i believe). Would that make sense to you as i didnt get round to it last winter but am about to get the oil changed and it has run perfectly all summer. Any thoughts. Regards John

  • Mazda 5 - Mazda DPF oil return to sump 8 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I understand that during the regen process diesel is added to the DPF filter and this assists with the process.  Should the engine be switched off mid way through the process it dumps the diesel into the oil sump. I know I have seen some companies who will remove DPF's and reprogram the ECU, ours doesnt seem to present too many problems with the exception of the sump oil level meaning an intermediate oil change is required between services.
  • VW mk2 Golf 1300 transistorized ignition system - Faulty distributor sesnor 25 Feb 2011 (Forum)
If I disconnect the distributor from the engine and turn the rotar arm then the hall sensor does switch in the correct fashion, 4 times a revolution. So what casuses this fault? There is some oil in the distributor as if you remove the rotor arm the cam is wet with oil. I have GTX Magnatec oil and could the magnetic oil inside the distributor effect the hall sensor? Last year I had to change the timing belt and oil pressure sensors as these were damaged by oil leakage due to a blocked engine breather.
  • Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 00 2.1 oil pipe broken, now no acceleration 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)

  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 52 reg - 1.6 8v - Wrong Oil 9 Dec 2007 (Forum)
in ref to the prev post that I put on here, that problem has been sorted out with out the need for a cmashaft rebuild - anyway I m due for a oil change tommorow moring, and I wanted to bring my own oil on Ive bought Castrol Magnatec 15W-40 however ive just realised that the Vauxhall Website and the Handbook state 10W-40 but i swear when I was in a well know retail branded chain of car parts, the guide book stated that 15W-40 was the one for my car, Have I wasted my money, and shall i hope that the garage that I have booked it into (local firm) have the correct oil?
  • Astra milky oil 15 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I recently went to Kwik Fit to have my oil changed on my Vauxhall Astra 1.6 Petrol 2001. I usually do this myself but due to ill health could not do it this time. They opened the filler cap and found that it contained milky white oil and recommended to have it flushed out and checked by a gargage because they felt the head gasket had gone.

  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 (8valve) service Questions 31 Mar 2009 (Forum)
So to minimise potential issues I would like to bring the service forward but mainly because its 7k miles overdue a cam belt change. I have rang my trusted local independent and have asked for the following Service (Plugs, Filters (Air, Oil, Pollen and Fuel)), Fresh Oil) Cambelt Change, Inc Water pump and associated pulley wheels.
  • Astra automatic gearbox problem 23 Aug 2003 (Forum)
. :( Well, I just wanted to ask someone who might have experience with Astra autos - from a cold start it changes gears at much higher revs than usual, about 3000 RPMs to move out of first. After about 5 minutes normal driving things are fine - gears change very smoothly at low revs. I initially thought this was due to the gearbox oil being cold, and perhaps it is, but strangely, checking the gearbox oil and removing and replacing the dipstick solves the problem for that journey.
  • 306 d turbo lacks power. 30 May 2005 (Forum)
and regained some power, but still not as much as the other 306. The maintenace was poor, the oil was practically non-exsistant and what was there resembled tar! and the air filter was just as black so I have changed the oil and air filters, oil and put cleaners through the air and fuel systems, but this is my first diesel and I'm struggling.
  • HJ the Mondewoe has gone, run'g in car? 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The new car is a Nissan Primera 2.2 DCi S, not as basic as it first seems. I thought that as its FIRST service is at 12000 miles I would ask HJs advice on running in and oil changes. My own thoughts were change oil and filter at 2000 miles for a good mineral oil to the Nissan spec and then at 6000 change again to full synthetic for diesel engines with changes at 6000 after that.
  • Garage negligence 22 Mar 2022 (Forum)
The oil filter was changed as I asked; the other filters were not due for a change.  I was also given 0/30 oil, not the grade I asked.  There seems little point in my providing a written job list if it is lost or ignored.
  • Is Lukoil from National Autocentre any good? 27 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I usually get a 6 month oil change at National Auto due to doing fairly high mileage but not enough to warrant an interim service at my local garage.  They used to use Fuchs Titan oil but have switched over to Lukoil, I can't see much reference to it anywhere.
  • Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - Can a 97 TDI run on bio-fuel or veg oil? 22 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I've informed a friend about the change in fuel tax laws, where alternative fuels attract no Excise Duty so long as you use less than 2,500 litres a year - enough for about 17,600 miles. He's just bought a nice 1997 Passat 1.9TDI (90bhp) version and would like to know whether it can be run on veg oil, or veg-oil/diesel mix?
  • Peugeot 207 (2006 - ) - 08 1.4 HDi oil draining 18 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hi, My wife has a 1.4 HDi Peugeot 207. I'd like to do an oil change as we bought the car new and plan to keep it a while. Problem is that I had a quick look underneath and can't locate the oil drain plug in the sump. I didn't have time to do a thorough check but I'm beginning to wonder if there's one at all.

  • Renault K7M engine question n.o 1 3 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Clio 1.6 8v K7M engine. Changed the coolant on the wife's Clio, all sorted, however I removed what I thought was the cyl block drain plug to find it did not have coolant behind it, this was a short bolt about 20mm long with an 11mm head situated on the front of the block near the gearbox end below the oil pressure switch, when removed the flat end of the bolt had engine oil on it though no oil leaked from the hole, it had Loctite on it so I re-Locite'd it and replaced it, wouldn't mind knowing what it is there for, Haynes does not help, any ideas?
  • VAG oil (again) 8 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Given that i do a 10 mile commute twice a day at an average of 10-12 mph with loads of stop/starts, i usually change the oil myself after 6/7000 miles last time I did this, the only oils available for a 90hp TDI on variable servicing were whatever the dealer sells and castrol longlife slx II - does anyone know of any other brands, and more importantly, does anyone know of the cheapest source for a brand that meets the spec ?
