  Over in the Lex sale, spectacular bargains included a 52k mile 05 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 auto station wagon sold for £3,000, a 30k mile 05 Porsche Boxster 987 2.7 Tiptronic S, gone for £17,700, a 35k mile Audi A6 3.0TDI V6 quattro Avant auto, knocked down at £16,000, a 6k mile 2007/57 Honda Civic Type R with a/c for £11,800, a 42k mile 2005/55 Mercedes C220CDI AvantGarde auto for £9,900, a 62k mile 07 Peugeot 407 2.0HDI 136 SW for £4,900. There is some speculation that after this months defleeting there won’t be so many cars looking for buyers so prices could go up in August. But if no one has any money to buy them, will they?

    Over among the part exchanges, a very nice 39k mile 02 reg Peugeot 406 2.2HDI Coupe with satnav made £3,700.   Last month, I mentioned an eyebrow facelift 87k mile 2007/57 Mercedes E280CDI A/G auto, satnav, 2007/57 made £13,900 that looked cheap against a 55k 07 E320CDI Sport that raked in £17,500.

  A 64k mile 2001/51 Ford Fiesta 1.3 Encore 3-dr was almost for nothing at £725s. And, though it had done 121k miles, a 2004/54 Peugeot 407SW 2.0HDI 136 S, 2004/54 couldn’t be called dear at £4,950s. There were no bids at all for a ‘Lever Espana’ (Manuel) 171k mile 2002/52 BMW 525iSE Touring that the auctioneer tried to start at £3,000.

  It was a curious and intriguing car, with bags of character, but it was outgunned by more sophisticated rivals, such as Honda’s VTEC-engined Civic VTi and the six-speed Peugeot 306 GTi-6. Indeed, in a contemporary Performance Car road test, it was even beaten by the Ford Escort GTi, though that’s one we find particularly hard to understand.  Yet today, the Bravo HGT is a car whose classic credentials are right up there.

  Cabbie jailed after MGB death crash 23 Jan 2015 (News)
  The court heard that the MGB - similar to the one pictured above - 'folded like a penknife' when hit from behind by Balasubramaniam’s Peugeot 5008, which had been tracked travelling at 48mph along the 40mph road. Prosecutor Nicholas Bleaney explained to the court how the MGB had been at a standstill at the time of the crash, due to traffic congestion, and that Mr Sennett stood little chance, 'He hit his head on the windscreen top and suffered some chest injuries but the main injury was a very serious head injury, and sadly he did not regain consciousness and was pronounced dead at the scene.'

  V5s Alive at Auction Today 5 Feb 2003 (News)
  £8,000 was a lot for a 26k mile Y reg Alfa 147 1.6 TS base model. So was £12,300 for 2k mile 02 plate independently imported Peugeot 206CC (Just £13,499 brand new from trade Sales.) While £6,850 paid for an 8k miles unwarranted 02 reg old shape Renault Megane 1.4 Expression was just plain daft. (Trade Sales does a new 1.4 Authentique with a/c for £7,499.)
