  • Scrappage in the USA 31 Jul 2009 (News)
So obsessive is Washington that NHTSA is actually advising car dealers to replace a trade-in’s motor oil with a sodium silicate solution — then run the engine to ruin it so scrap dealers can’t resell any of its parts. The victims will be lower-income Americans who typically buy only used parts and vehicles. “Now you’re removing cars people could afford, and they’re not available anymore,” says Norm Wright, a Denver recycler.

  • Italian firm takes major stake in Morgan Car Company 5 Mar 2019 (News)
The news means the 110-year old Malvern-based company will no longer be family-owned – a position it’s held since it was founded in 1910. It comes after Morgan settled a long-running dispute with ex-director Charles Morgan, who was the grandson of the founder and a 25% shareholder, in 2017. Although the Worcestershire-based manufacturer remains tight-lipped over the details of the deal, it says the Morgan family will continue to act as ‘stewards for the brand’. The changes mean the management team and all employees will become shareholders in the business.

  • Is Castrol Valvemaster fuel additive still available? 24 Apr 2018 (News)
.’ Fuel additives like Valvemaster were designed for use in classic vehicles that were made to run on leaded petrol – mostly cars built before 1992. Without the addition of lead in the petrol, enthusiasts were concerned that the valves seats would suffer from recession. However, because of the low mileages (and light use) that many older vehicles enjoy, this seems to have been much less of a problem than many predicted.

  • A Grand Monday : Mazda 626 EGi Coupe 17 Jul 2017 (News)
It's a car that has clearly been cherished, and it fully deserves to go to an equally caring new owner. It has a few minor cosmetic blemishes, but nothing too scary, while at 94,000 miles it's barely run-in for a Japanese classic of this era. Mechanically, they're pretty indestructible. A pretty cool way to travel for not much outlay - try finding another (you might, of course, but there's only one other definitely on the road!).
