  • Can SPECS systems be 'linked'? 19 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Just out of curiosity, can two or more individual sets of SPECS-controlled speed limits be linked together over much larger distances? e.g. if there are two 50mph 'stretches' on a motorway, can the last camera of the first stretch be linked to the first camera of the second stretch to flag up an average speed of greater than 70mph?
  • Stopped over the line with a red light camera 16 Sep 2009 (Forum)

  • Road Tax Evasion 20 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Today's DT reports that 1 in 15 motorists do not pay road tax and that this includes 37% of all motorcyclists. I make no comment other than that if this is the best the government can do with cameras all over the country and a vast computer in Swansea, it doesn't look good for computer/camera based road charging or ID cards!
  • Best/Worst things, driving in ur area 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I live in liverpool and we have not too many speed cameras, police patrols. U can get from a-b fairly easy with no fear of being scammed by the cameras. Lots of teenage "businessmen" in lexus is200's. What are the best/worst things about driving in your area ???????????
  • Useful Accessories 13 Oct 2002 (Forum)
The current issue of French magazine L'Express mentions two useful car acessories, although it only gives "l'Internet" as the source. One is a device that claims to prevent any speed camera or laser device from registering. It costs up to 520 Euros. The other is a spray that is transparent, yet prevents cameras from reading number plates. Their use is, of course, illegal...

  • Why did a hardwired dash camera void my insurance policy? 11 Jan 2018 (Ask HJ)

  • Kia Picanto - Camera for Cross Traffic Alert 8 Oct 2024 (Forum)
I would have loved a non wired solution to the issue, cones or such like, but I think I've run out of options.  Most cameras I see are for reversing, can anyone recommend any for pulling out (or even both, when I'm edging the car back in!?) Thank you so very much
  • Little grey boxes on lights 5 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I have had a number of ideas...some as stupid as the next: a) sensors to control lights b) sensors to detect pedestrians c) red light cameras (I am doubtful about this one; if they were capable of that, why put up the massive ones that are definitely cameras?) d) (My personal favourite...) CCTV cameras...... Needless to say, I really want to know what they are now...so...WHAT ARE THEY?
  • Notice of Intended Prosecution question ? 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I know from the UK governments own website that the authorities have to make sure the NIP form reaches a driver who has been caught by a "safety" camera within 14 days of the offence. Is this a rough rule, 14 days, or does it have to be obeyed. Would this mean the authorities retrieving the film from the cameras and developing them and sending the NIP form out, all within 14 days ?
  • Red light cameras 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The only problem with this (apart from the fact that I'm an idiot for daydreaming) is that there was a red-light camera!! Does anyone think I'll get a ticket? If so, do you think I'd be able to successfully appeal?
  • The Speed Camera Thread - Volume 17 30 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I have an A4 1.8T (wish I'd chosen the 6 speed 1.9TDI now) and whilst I don't drive like a loon I do need rapid progress where it is safe. My first week tells me that speed cameras and plod with a hairdryer are everywhere! So, time to invest in a detector. Whilst I can read about them elsewhere, can anyone offer some advice based on their own experience ? What to buy, what to pay, what it will/won't detect and if it needs updating.
  • German court has thrown out a fine imposed on a dr 15 Nov 2001 (Forum)
A German court has thrown out a fine imposed on a driver caught by a speed camera on a perfectly safe road. The Frankfurt-Oder court ruled that councils can't fine motorists for exceeding the speed limit on safe stretches of road. German law only allows speed cameras on dangerous stretches of road with a history of accidents.
