Can SPECS systems be 'linked'? - OldSock

Just out of curiosity, can two or more individual sets of SPECS-controlled speed limits be linked together over much larger distances?

e.g. if there are two 50mph 'stretches' on a motorway, can the last camera of the first stretch be linked to the first camera of the second stretch to flag up an average speed of greater than 70mph?

I wouldn't be suprissed if this happened.

There was a proposal to make all of the UK's motorway network 'average speed' regulated.

That could imply all SPECS systems joint together.

There could be two SPECS systems 10 miles apart.

The end of the first batch could record the time and date of your vehicle leaving the first set then the first camera of the second set of SPECS (10 miles down the road) could then record the cars details again and then compare data.

No police work and an instant nick if you drive like everyone else on the a1m !

No doubt it will come eventually. SPECS has already proven how it smooths traffic flow, accidents within SPECS zone roadworks have gone down and/or been dramatically decreased. There were some statistics/document to back this up but I don't have the link now.

SPECS only record data on entry, currently. The exit camera monitors only. Each plate is turned into a unique identifier and effectively a countdown timer is applied. If that reaches zero without being read again the data is dropped.

If it positively stored the data until a vehicle was seen exiting again it would eventually cause a backlog with cars that may have been missed, broken down in the zone or turned off into services/junction etc.
