Has anyone any experience of these?

because of an "incident" a few months back I am now considering installing one of these systems, does anyone know of an insurance backed one, or one that is acceptable, I have seen prices from £9.99 up to £300+ but would like to strike a fair balance in terms of use and cost.

Haven't bought one (yet) but have read a lot and it might seem that RoadHawk are one of the better ones. They're in Cornwall and are contactable for personal tech. support by phone and you get a real person to speak to (always a bonus). Google RoadHawk or DogCamSport. Look at the latest DC1 model. Blackvue is another name - but may not be of the same quality. Google will take you to several forums with useful info. by some sensible and informed posters to help you choose and decide how you use it....some have parking mode etc. Some homework required to get the right one but will pay dividends. Sorry not to offer personal experience

I bought new car camera at www.shop.c-everything.com It's called Vision Drive VD-3000. The camera has lots of features and records very well. It has Voice guidence, LCD and GPS build in. I paid £180 which is a good price for this type of camera, as I found similar ones for much more money. Very happy with purchase and quality of this camera. The company based in Hertfordshire and you can call them direct for any questions. They were helpful. It's made in South Korea.

RoadHawk may be one of the best stuffs out there and in the UK some of the car owners I have met recommend this. What about the features, reliability and most important of all how conformtable can I feel having them in place. Read some article at blog about its GPS vulnerabilities and price comparisons with other cameras.

Following 2 accidents that were not my fault and where the 3rd party lied through there teeth regarding the accident, I bought a RoadHawk camera for my car. I have the older DC1 system and it just runs all the time the key is in the ignition. So I just forget it's there ...until the next time someone drives into me. I think the tech is 'good enough', but not perfect. GPS, speed, acceleration and deceleration etc. are all logged and good. However, the camera recording is a compromise of resolution and frames per second. The video is very useful, but struggles to easily resolve number plates.

I think it's a good idea ...for safe, legal drivers. Remember that if you are speeding, I'll record that too. In fact, it would be good if manufacturers provided a system as an option when purchasing a new car. Personally, I wouldn't want to drive a car without one and when a 25fps 720p version comes out, I'll be upgrading ASAP.

The older one was the RH1 (& 2) - the latest one is the DC1

I have an RH1 in each of my 4 cars. I understand the resolution and screen glare has been reduced in the new model. The resolution does change from 5 frames per second to 25 frames per second in the event of an incident, this includes swerving or braking hard etc. The quality is then much enhanced, there is alos an emergency button you can press that records at full speed if you witness an incident occuring !

However I have had a sucessfull prosecution against someone with the use of the camera and the insurance company had no problems with it and welcomed the footage. You cant be too careful these days as insurance companies are only too keen to take a 50/50 hit which inturn effects your premium and no claims( if not protected)

Recently on another forum there was a driver who had a camera installed and the car in front at a set of lights inadvertantley selected reverse and drove backwards into the 2nd driver. The front driver then tried turning the accident around and claimed he had been driven into. The front driver signed an afadavit claiming the 2nd driver had driven into him ! In court the 2nd driver produced the video eveidence and the front driver was prosecuted for contempt of court and fined £800.00 + costs. One time where the camera was worth every penny !!!!!! Without the video eveidence the 2nd driver would of had to accept the concequences !

" drove backwards into the 2nd driver"

This is exactly why I bought mine. Too many stupid accidents where people blame the innocent party ...

The company I work for sells an in car camera system that mounts to the windscreen behind the mirror. It records both ahead of the vehicle and also the driver and front passenger. It has integral gps so footage is overlaid on to Google maps to show the vehicle speed and location in an event situation. The camera runs off a 12v lighter socket and can be removed from the vehicle when not in use. It also write protects recordings in the event of an accident or harsh braking/cornering (it has a g-sensor to enable this). It's not something we've sold to the general public as was aimed at businesses like taxi operators and couriers but I don't see why we couldn't see them to the public. They are priced at £299.00. If anyone wants information they are welcome to contact me on d.pearson@cyberlyne.co.uk
