Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1995 1.8 AAM Auto engine hesitation when cold 3 Nov 2008 (Forum)
If I don't drive off from cold and just let the engine idle for a while, the revs will drop down and the engine will almost stall until I push on the accelerator again and then its fine. The car always starts fine and runs well otherwise. There are also no faults recorded on the ECU and the ECU temp sensors (coolant and air) read exactly what the current outside temperatures are. regs Joshs -
Mercedes Benz SL W107 (1971 - 1989) - 89 3.0 - battery not charging 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
This year , it's not been out at all, on account of poor weather ( it's a drop top ) and , annoyingly, when it was due for a run, it wouldn't start Now , I bought an ' Accumate ' type slow trickle charger about 2 years ago that I keep plugged in, meaning the battery ( about 3 years old ) is always topped up. Lately though, the charger doesn't go into the ' charge complete ' cycle showing a green light, whenever I check, it's always ' on charge ' and not enough juice is stored to crank the engine. -
Which car to carry big dog and have street cred ? 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I bought it as I have a huge dog and she travels in her cage with me most of the time. I wanted to be higher up, but didnt want the running costs of a 4x4. Although the zafira has been ok, it is quite low spec with a smaller engine and I feel it doesnt have any umph. Also, most of the time, I drive around without using any of the back seats. -
Great day out to Calais 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I would just like to draw BR member's attention to a very good day out. P&O run mini cruises to Calais; the one I went on cost £65 for two people. You book on line and then drive to Dover and park in the Multi Storey Car park (£6), check in and go to the ferry by bus. On the ferry you get the use of the Club Lounge which is normally £14 each, each way, so £56. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1999 1.4 16v Put a deposit down - worried about HG 15 Oct 2008 (Forum)
However when I checked for smoke there was a tiny bit of condensation steam (the engine was cold). I have just been back now and the car engine was running and there was quite a bit of steam coming out the back. The car is going to have a full service and 12 months MOT before being sold to me, and it comes with 3 months warranty. If I buy the car I assume the problem would have to fixed under warranty? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 2.0 HDI Air in fuel line? 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I very stupidly let my car run out of diesel the other day, she started fine when I put fuel in her and I drove to work. I then drove home and it was still ok (although the engine diagnostics light was on) but when I tried to start her again it wouldnt kick in, I am assuming there is air in the fuel line? -
Skoda vRS vs other cars 18 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Are they reliable? Any other thoughts? I have also considered a Focus ST, but they look a lot more expensive to run. Opinions? -
Main dealer goes bust 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
To the point: If we traded in our son's car toay as deposit (worth about 4k) and purchased another & paid most o all of the remainder of the money for the new/used car via debit card and that car was delivered (without log bookas it goes to the dvla), or not delivered as the case may be... my question is, say if te min dealer, the whole group that runs that franchise and others went into receivership, where would we stand? Thanks ps - hope my question is clear! -
Volkswagen Phaeton (2002 - ) - Responsible spending 12 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Just had a look at Autotrader and found that four years old VW Phaeton petrols go for £8000 to 12K. Say we get a not very high miler (at 50k miles+) do you think we can run it within our budget? or are we looking for troubles? Our budgeting system worked well in the past and we like to keep it that way. -
Honda CR-V (1997 - 2002) - 2000 2.0 - MIL Light 28 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Phoned local main dealer he said exhaust wouldn't turn light on and it's probaly on of the o2 sensors, but car is running as sweet as a nut and is really good on fuel. He also said, and I have read this on the net, that they don't like 'aftermarket' cats. If anybody has any advice on this I would be most gratful. Regards, Mark -
Robin Hoods Bay - no more 27 Aug 2008 (Forum)
But should wardens hang around waiting for the clock to strike, because they know everyone who stays in RHB pays for a few days parking, and they all run out at 9. I am tempted to use a rude word. -
Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.6 loss of coolant 23 Aug 2008 (Forum)
New pump and cam belt fitted, drove home a distance of 5 miles all ok checked some 2 hours after and a large puddle of coolant was under the engine, this time instead of coming from the cam belt end it appears to be coming from under the thermostat housing? The engine has never overheated or missed a beat and on starting is still running swetly? Why would this new leak appear after having a water pump fitted and what could be the cause? and rectification, Thanks if anyone can help. -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 2005 Diesel - Low oil level 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I am currently driving arund the the company pool car which is a diesel Golf. Quite a nice car in many ways - nothing special but quite nice to drive. After a long run [Bristol to Hove] I switched the engine off and upon restarting was told that the oil level was low. Purchased 1 litre of 507 spec oil from Halfords and it took the full litre to even get the dip stick to register the fact that oil had been added. -
Rover 200 and 400 (1989 - 1996) - 216 coupe not accelerating after cam belt change. 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I noticed that last time it was changed they painted marks on the pulleys im wondering if they had mucked it up and changed the ignition timing to make it run? how can i check if this is the case??? cos if poss i don't want to take everything apart again if its not that, could it be something else i did jack the engine up to get the mounting off is there something i could have dislodged??? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.6 stall during idle 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
During the last couple of months my focus has started to idle very lumpy and if not given any throttle it cuts out. Other than this the car runs perfectly - it's just when idling. Also, when coming up to a red light or stopping, when i dip the clutch the revs climb to 3000 of its own accord without any throttle only to drop down when i've stopped - then it cuts out. -
Peugeot - 02 1.9HDi Boxer EML on and performance drop off. 28 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The engine is then intermittent between normal power and mininum engine power for the period of the journey. There are times when it will run perfectly for months on end, then it all happens again. The vehicle has been back to a Peugeot dealer more times than I can remember - they put it on the diagnostic set-up, re-set something and tell us it's fine......till next time!! -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 engine warning light 6 Jun 2008 (Forum)
, difficult to hear over radio and 2 kids. Since then the engine light is coming on and off and it feels like it is running on 3 cylinders? Fine on idle, but if you rev quickly big induction noise as if no air filter, possible coil pack, lambda, crank sensor? swapped a few relays about and all fuses are fine. Dont really want to pay through the nose just to replace the coil pack which i can do myself. -
Audi A3 + S3 (1996 - 2001) - 01 1.9TDI Power loss - Again! 4 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Might is be a turbo failure I don't think it's the clutch as it feels ok 4 weeks ago the water pump had to be replaced as the blades were broken and causing it to overheat. THis has been fixed and has been running fine since. Any useful comments would be appreciated, before I speak to the garage.... cheers -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2000 2.0 MAF Sensor related problem 19 May 2008 (Forum)
This happens when stood still or when moving and accelerating, it is more noticable under load. As soon as i unplug the MAF and rev the engine it runs with no noise, could it possibly be a problem with the EGR and be potentially dangerous. Sorry for long post and thanks in advance Luke -
Mercedes Benz A-Class W169 (2005 - ) - A150 Avantgarde - opinions sought 9 May 2008 (Forum)
We will be using the car for mainly driving in London, and so we wil be getting the 7 speed auto box, but we will occasionally use the car for trips to relations up North, and airport runs, and one of the concerns I have is whether the 1.4 engine is capapble of comfortably cruising at motorway speeds? Also are there any options we should be looking for, or are desirable to have? Anyway I would be very grateful for any views of the A150, and if it is a good all rounder.....before anyone suggests a diesel model, as we won't be doing that many miles in it, the extra cost of a diesel would not be financially viable.
