I used to know an older Gentleman who transported his elderly Alsation about - sitting in the centre of the rear seat.
Things had gone well for years with this friendly and affable companion, often seen looking happy with it`s tongue hanging out, travelling to, or from, the woodland exercise area by car.
Until one day it gave a roar like a lion, followed by a prolonged howl as it tore off the top of the passenger seat - in a flurry of cloth and seat foam.
All done in one massive bite too I was told.
Apparently it had made eye contact with it`s main enemy, which was four legging it across it`s patch....

Subaru Forester would be my shout.

The problem is the cage. This limits the car you can have, what you need to do is decide on your car, then get a pupose made box from Lintran made for it.
We transported two big malinois in a SAAB estate with a purpose made lintran box.
Or a Mitsi L200 animal with truckman top for the dog.
Oh and the Mali's are tattooed in the ear with a security number!

There's a metalworking chap round here with a big, serious-looking German Shepherd. The chap himself dresses like a crazed right-wing survivalist. They drive around together in one of those cut-down lightweight military Land Rovers. No one ever molests it because the dog sits in it all day while he's working. So I would suggest one of those Land Rovers, preferably with a V8 conversion. And train the dog to assume the expression of a Mafia enforcer, even if it really just wants a biscuit.

I used to practice the dog bit of that when I had my Landie - the my crazed Spaniel used to spend quite a bit if his time in it. At least one ne'r do well spilt some claret after being foolish enough to try his luck with what seemed to be a placid, half-asleep dog.

Any old, battered and rusty American pick-up truck, MUST be LHD. Train dog ( female Rottweiler in my case) to sit upright in passenger seat; enjoy goggle-eyed doubletakes on dual carriageway as overtaking motorists see dog "driving" truck!
Now that' cool! ;-)
