What automatic car for a 150 mile daily commute do you suggest?

I'm considering whether I should buy a second automatic car for my 150 miles daily commute to work while keeping my petrol automatic Skoda Superb Estate for family/weekend occasions? Is that a good idea and what car would you suggest?

Whether it is a good idea to get a second car or not depends on a lot of circumstances. You may be concerned about putting a high mileage on your current car, which is a valid point, but the extra cost of more frequent servicing will still probably be cheaper than the additional cost of a second car, fuel, tax and insurance. If cost is less of a concern then a second car just used for commuting will keep the mileage down on your Skoda, although it still makes good sense to choose a smaller car if you are commuting alone to keep running costs down. We'd suggest a Toyota Auris or Corolla Hybrid. You get bulletproof reliability and The e-CVT automatic transmission is extremely smooth in traffic. While hybrids are best in town, they still achieve 50–55 mpg on motorways but the main benefit here is low maintenance. Toyota’s hybrid systems rarely break, which is vital when you rely on the car 5 days a week.
