FIAT Ulysse (1995 - 2002) - Does welding a door shut cause an MoT problem ? 10 Sep 2007 (Forum)
If so, why, as there are I believe new models of, I think Peugeot?, which only have three doors, as built? -- Roger. (Costa del Sol, España) s -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 1.6 petrol cam belt issues 8 Sep 2007 (Forum)
It should be said that I couldn't use my regular mechanic as I was away, and had to use an untested garage. Any ideas? Would rather not the engine blow up on the M4. RJ s -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 TDCi (130) Will not start (please help) 6 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I returned it to them, and again, it worked fine for about a month, but has just started playing up again. Any help would be really great. Thank you all, James S -
Strange Convoy 3 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I would not have thought that these are chauffeur cars judging by the filthy state of them. On other occasions I have noticed a similar procession on the same route made up of S Type Jags. Just seems a little weird when you see it. Suggestions? -
Could we run Jaguar 22 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I have never owned a Jag but have always been a fan as I think they are well engineered (something I think is number 1 in a car), and have got the quality / customer bit right as well - according JD Power. It struck me that if they fixed the design on some cars (X type in particular - next S type looks good according to current spy shots) then these things should have no problem selling. So imagine we are now the new board at Jag and Ford have just sold it to HJ & asscoiates for £1 - what we would do next ??? -
X Ford Mondeo 1.8 cam belt / lifter 3 Aug 2007 (Forum)
After 2 days I noticed a tinkling noise from the engine and took it back to the garage. They repaired it and I have now been told me it was the lifters (whatever they are) and that it?s going to cost me an extra £147 (apparently I didn't need all to be changed) on top of what I've paid for the cam belt and service. Should I have to pay for this as there was no noise before I took it in? -
Buying a Mini Cooper - Any suggestions? 16 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Right then, i'm in the mood for treating myself and i'm fed up of being practical! So i'm buying a Mini Cooper (Would have been a Cooper S until i got the insurance quote lol!) Saw one at auction today, had all the kit on Chilli Pack, big wheels, 15k, dark blue with a black and white roof and mirrors, looked quite funky actually! and very clean, bodywork was fine! -
Japanese reliability? 10 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The chap from the service department was quoting me a replacement price of around £360, until I told him the car was still under warranty, which took the wind out of his sails (why did he not know/check this out first of all?). He then said the the part(s) could not be obtained until Friday, so I said we would leave the car with them. Later in the day, however, he rang my wife to say there are none of these parts in the country and they can't get one for at least a month. -
Camac crossplies...any good? 18 May 2007 (Forum)
Whilst undertaking the usual pre-season service and check on the P4 on Friday I was taken aback to find the tread separating from the casing on the front tyres. As I bought these S/H a couple of years ago from a 'friend' who was emigrating all I can do is to bite the bullet and buy some new ones. My rear tyres are Avon Super and these still good after many years service, and these are available for £94, however the same supplier has Camac tyres for half this price. -
Car Insurance Certificates Issued Online 15 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Motor insurance certificates are legal evidence of insurance, and are needed when arranging road tax, MOT and by the police. Justin Jacobs, the ABI?s head of motor insurance, said: "This is good news for customers and insurers. Over half of UK households are now online, and this will enable them to arrange motor insurance more speedily. This will be especially helpful when buying and taxing a vehicle quickly .It will also help insurers provide a faster, more cost-effective service to their customers". -
Picasso 1.8 petrol engine rattle 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have a 1.8 sx Picasso 2001 "y" 16v petrol Picasso and it has the most annoying noise it is most common when cold and more noticeable when putting the throttle down the engine rattles well I say rattle its more of a rat a tat tat "sorry that?s the closest I can get it in words" it has a full service history and don?t understand why it does it doesn?t knock though and seems to get quieter the warmer the engine gets I don?t know if it is in unison with the engine turning over or if its something attached to the engine i.e. some sort of heat shield I just don? -
vaux astra mk3 loss of coolant 15 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I have a astra mk3 s reg 1.6 8 valve , lost all coolant out of exspansion tank and heat .on topping up and running the car I noticed alot of pressure building up in the tank.I also took off the oil filler cap here i noticed mayonase on the cap and alot of whiteish smoke coming out of the opening. The oil on the dipstick shows no sign of water just seems on the oil filler cap also when you put your hand over the oil inlet in the rocker cover you seem to feel as though it as a vaccum suction.the engine seems to run ok , but I think the head gasket maybe on its way out. -
Some Citroens can be ultra reliable! 6 Mar 2007 (Forum)
On Wednesday a chap i work with who owns a Xantia 2.1 TD was telling me all about his car. Its an 'S' reg example and its done 252,000 miles! Nothing too amazing about that as there are quite a few around that have done those sort of mega-mileages.......But.........its only ever been serviced four times! -
Corsa battery and Master cylinder 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Anyone got the definitive method of removal?? Similarly the brake master cylinder seems inaccessible too and it looks like the o/s wiper arm has to be removed before access can be gained to do a simple job like checking/ topping up the reservoir. Again is this the case?? Again anyone with the definitive method of checking. As always your divine advice and guidance is much appreciated. -

Peugeot 406 warning light 29 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Last week you helped me out with a warning light problem on my 406. These things seem to run in 3's and true form no sooner had I sorted them than another light as appeared On the way home from work, I'm assuming that it is the engine management light (shape of an engine right in the middle of the display) came on and stayed on. -
Seat Altea 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Basically, the workshop can't find the cause.....thought it might be the bearings & on advice of the technical dept at SEAT, have changed one & rotated the tyres. Surprise surprise, it's still doing it. The dealer don't think the problem''s "too bad"(in other words, put up with it) & say that SEAT have no reports worldwide of this intermittent fault. Called SEAT today who weren't much help either. Is there anyone out there how's heard of this problem or has any suggestions?! -
peugoet 307 SW 1 Dec 2006 (Forum)
i am about to buy a 307 sw as a sensible option to a large MPV and cannot decide whether to buy a 2litre 16 valve petrol one or whether to air on the side of caution and stick with the sensible 110BHP 2litre HDI deisel version (which is only £110 a year tax too) it s only really going to be used as a second car and im just not sure i can justify all that extra money on a diesel when it would take me a very long time to recoup that extra initial outlay . what do you think people ??
