Only in America.... 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The TV stations apparently regularly broadcast chases because it pushes up ratings. It is common for residents to line the streets and wave to cameras when a chase goes through their neighborhood. Do those who advocate harsher penalties for Johnny Toerag want that happening here? I think not. -
Road tax doding TV advert 12 Nov 2003 (Forum)
For those who haven't, they basically feature Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, been driven untaxed, the powers that be catch the car on camera and then clamp it and prevent it from flying away to escape. Would anyone like to have a guess why this is a ridiculous advert and not at all realistic? I'll post the answer later on. :-) Blue -
Fun Driving 26 Aug 2003 (Forum)
OK, I\'m as guilty as the rest when it comes to whingeing about the state of the roads, speed cameras, traffic calming (ha!), etc, etc, etc & there\'s no water in the taps, no water in the pool & only a pink fluffy diced lizard in the bidet! But there\'s still loads of fun to be had out there. -
DSC/ASC "off" = tail happy BMW 22 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Disengaged the "nanny" software systems on the BM and consequently had some "unique moments" on some of the quieter roads up here. No need to become a victim of Mr B's speed cameras to have some fun - Joy. -
Just seen DVLA Car tax van in Colchester 30 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Not seen it before so was interested to see two cameras about 1 foot apart on stand. Small van with occupant looking asleep as portable PC seemed to be recording all the numbers. Large notice beside van stating it was looking for Car Tax evaders. I thought this car checking was automated now but guess cheaper to use man with a van on temporary sites. -
speed tickets 6 Apr 2002 (Forum)
nice bit in the mirror (i think) today about a guy who denied his scamera ticket for speeding because there were not enough speed signs on the road and got off with it... it seems the police have still been operating the camera for a least a month since it was pointed out that signage was insufficient for the speed to support a prosecution must be a case of perverting the course of justice against the police here for ticketing people they know to be innocent hope someone complains loudly -
Big Brother 21 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Just when you thought the government couldn't make matters worse, there is a letter from the Environment Minister, Michael Meacher, asking the police for ideas to ban motorcycles from National Parks. The roads, that is, not just the parking areas! One interim idea is to put more cameras into areas of outstanding natural beauty, which I should have thought would stop them from being AONB's... The actual letter, with some comment, is on http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/news.htm -
TrafCam - any good? 26 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Has anyone (other than Alwyn, who mentioned it ref: 9/10/01) a considered opinion of the TrafCam (http://www.trafcam.com) ? (Does the HJ site do product testing?) With so many cameras about, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before my licence of 30+ years gets besmirched, so I'd like to get protected. But at £300 entry level, I want to make sure it's worth it. -
speeding tickets 17 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I was driving along this morning, doing the 30mph spped limit, when i noticed a copper, hiding in a bush with a speed camera. Is this legal? i myself obviously didnt get a ticket, but i would imagine the bloke doing about 50 in his M3 the other way prob did, i am not condoning speeding, but is it right for them to hide? -
variable valve timing 18 Jan 2001 (Forum)
I drive a Honda civic 1.5ils 1998 mod .Does anyone else find the occasional power surges when driving at steady speeds annoying. I have to keep a carefull eye on my speed when approaching cameras. (speed can increase 5-7mph) I am told this is normal by Honda.Ps no i am not one of those drivers that try to squeeze as many mpg as possible out of this remarkably economical engine!. -
Isuzu D-Max - "Check System" message, keyfob failure 5 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Three other faults also occurred the same day: 1) no reversing light when reverse gear selected. 2) no central display switching to rear camera when reverse selected (can switch to camera manually). 3) no GSI (gear shift indicator) number showing at all in any gear. Dealer says 1) & 2) are related to loose parking sensor shorting and blowing common fuse, and that 3) is due to faulty clutch switch and unrelated to 1) & 2). -

Recordings are okay rather than exceptional samples in websites are a lot clearer than I can reproduce. Glare from headlights often masks number plates.... -

Road Pricing IS a step to Big Brother 18 Jul 2007 (Forum)
(change .. open and trustworthy government... cow excrement) "A Home Office document accidentally released suggests police should be given instant access to cameras which monitor congestion and road charging. " "But internal documents mistakenly circulated around Westminster by the Home Office contain details of a more wide-ranging plan to track journeys throughout England and Wales. -
Head-on collision: Video clip (2) 14 Dec 2006 (Forum)
In my case, the other driver was on the wrong side of the road and had no insurance. The police weren't interested; and it was in the days before I had a flash camera phone (which I could have used to photograph the other car on the wrong side of the road after the accident). Has anyone got any thoughts on the feasibility of installing grille-mounted (or dashboard-mounted) video cameras? -
tailgating HGVs 8 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I decided that I had had enough of this idiot so overtook the car in front and continued at 50mph only to see the HGV tailgating the car that I had just overtaken. There is only 1 question I have, where were the police? Surely there are enough cameras to see this going on. Unfortunately it was too dark to see the reg number. Rant over -
Faster down south. 2 Jul 2004 (Forum)
M6 Toll (dont count I was the only one on it) M42, roadworks - 50 mph limit, everyone toodling along at 50, BMW lane at 60 slowing sedately for the cameras... Again all civilised. Slight feelings of deja vu start at High Wycombe on the M40, slight bunching, aggression, middle lane now up to 80, BM lane now 90. And then the m25. The three ring circus much beloved of maximus Suicidal speeds, inches of bumper space, everyone rushing along nose to tail at 70mph in the 40 mph limit slamming on anchors millimetres before the cameras........ -
Why do people.... 24 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Act surprised when their main dealer charges more for the service than the purchase of the car? Do i really need to explain this?!! Think Speed Camera's are justfied? They never get put near schools/hospitals/old peoples homes. They are always on clear, straight roads where you can do 60mph but they put a 30mph limit up 3 days before the camera appeared. -
NIP recieved after 2 months 17 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Speaking to the camera unit call centre they say as long as the origional NIP was sent out to the registered keeper within 14 days of the offence then it's valid. Well my V5 says at that date I was the registered keeper, (though to be fair I have only just recieved the backdated V5 in the post). -

Some of you will remember this post back in early Jan:- Father in law got a nice present for New Year, a speeding notice from Queensland Police. Apparently...
