Mercedes Vaneo oh dear 16 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My 'boring' Lecacy (her words) is for sale due to my new business requirements for a van.We have previously run both older model C & E Class estates, and I was looking forward to the arrival of the IS200.This evening, she tells me that she has been to look at a Vaneo, as our two earlier Mercs were such good workhorses, circa MY 93 and 97.Oh dear.Never having looked at one, nor wanted to, are they as bad as I assume, or worse. -
Cavalier 1.7 td cooking up PLEASE HELP 25 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I have a 1995 cavalier 1.7 td. i have noticed that in traffic the temeprature is getting right up to just over the 100 mark, though it has never yet got actually into the red. is this normal? my mate used to have one, and he reckons that his very rarely ever got over about 95. on a run it sits at around 93ish. the cooling fan kicks in at about 100, and then it goes down to about 98. I have checked the oil and water, and both are spotless, there is nothing blocking out air from getting in either. -

Computer Related questions Volume 17 1 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I am trying to share/use my Epson USB printer connected to my main 'Home' pc when I am using my Laptop. All the stuff I find on google/Microsoft say this is easy when both machines are running XP Pro. IE You set up the printer properties to allow sharing and then 'Add a printer' on the Laptop and then select the networked printer option. However guess what - when it searches no printer is found,. -

scorpio ultima losing overdrive 16 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Blipping the accelerator will generally bring the revs down to normal. Travelling at a steady but slightly lower speed (68mph) results in perfect running. My car has a full service history with the local main Ford dealer. It is my fifth scorpio and is a low mileage car as I am now retired. 45500 on the clock. I am 2nd owner. Car supplied by my dealer for 30 years. -
Oil control ring problem? Seat Ibiza 8 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The resulting overheating required repairs to the cylinder head etc. costing £1000. The engine seems to run OK now but tends to foul the plugs, in particular the one opposite the cam belt, and oil consumption is heavy - about 1-2 pints per thousand miles. There are no obvious oil leaks and a mechanic says that it is likely to be the oil control rings. -
94 Camry V6 overheating 6 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Opening the bonnet and most of the coolant seemed to have erupted out of the overflow tank and was dripping off the bonnet and around the tank. Some oil smoke from rocker cover gasket but a stone cold radiator with fan not running but very hot (and pressurised) top hose. No steam or other smoke, coolant remains in overflow tank did not have any oil in them and no mayonnaise on filler cap or stick. Got the car towed to a Toyota dealer in Slough and will find out on Friday what the problem is. -
Mondeo W Plate Air Con Problem 30 May 2004 (Forum)
The engine starts surging and dipping, noticeable both whilst stood and when cruising along. This is disconcerting when on a long run. Is there anything i can do or do i need to take it to a main dealer, or will/are there local specialist that may be able to deal with it. I had a quick look under the bonnet, you can hear an occasional clicking noise and then you can see the an auxilliary throttle cable move in and out, this seems to come from some kind of unit on the bottom right, as you look at it, of the engine bay. -
1993 - L reg Micra starting problems 30 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The throttle housing was replaced last year by another garage (I bought a second hand throttle body after the engine starting losing power and jerking - it is running perfectly now). Am rapidly approaching nervous breakdown! They have quoted 120 pounds for new air flow meter but I don't want to bother if it won't improve the situation. -
Taxing and V5 issues - help! 19 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The previous owner will (hopefully) forward the new logbook when he receives it, at which point I will then send it off re-registering it in my name. In the meantime, the tax runs out at the end of March. How do I go about taxing the vehicle? Should I fill in the green bit with my details? Will this allow me to tax the vehicle, bearing in mind I do not have the reminder slip? -
Brake disc wear/replacement - SAAB 9-3 14 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The ridge on the outer edge of the disc is about the same as that on the edge of my spectacles, if you run your finger nail across the lens and up to the frame ie not very much! These are ventilated discs but the amount of wear I can detect does not look like a replacement job to me. They are not warped or scored -just worn by an amount commensurate with the mileage. -
The End of Roadside Views? 3 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Minor accidents and traffic jams have been caused by drivers slowing down to look at the River Trent, especially when it floods, as it runs near junctions 25 to 24a on the southbound M1, claims the Highways Agency. Work was starting today on the wooden fence, 1.2 metres tall and 600 metres long, to screen the river from drivers between the junctions. -
Pug 106 Starting Probs and Immobiliser 11 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have checked the detector coil in the ignition key and all seems fine. Is there a sensible method of bypassing the immobilizer so she can run the car for a few weeks to pin down the problem. You may not wish to post the answer on grounds of security so email me the fix. Regards Peter -
Parking space thieves 21 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I live in a building converted to 3 flats and each flat has two parking spaces. Although there is a sign saying "Private no parking" we have a couple of wide boys running a business across the road who persistently use these spaces as their own. Worse, they park in such a way as to use up two spaces with each car, presumably to pre-empt being blocked in. One of the residents here suffers considerable stress over this but, short of hiring a clamping company (which goes against the grain and would penalise other, non-chronic parkers) it seems there is little or nothing we can do. -
Rover 214 ticking noise 22 Dec 2003 (Forum)
This summer, the engine in my 1990 Rover 214 sometimes made a 'ticking' noise when running (from the cylinder block, not the injector), the speed of which varied with engine speed. It could happen when the engine was either cold or hot, and would seemingly randomly come and go. At the time I suspected it was the hydraulic tappets on their way out. -
XR2i CVH low idle and cutting out 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
The vehicle is a J Reg Fiesta XR2i with the 1596cc EFi CVH engine. The car is running on good quality oil and no expense has been spared with the maintenance. When it pulls up at junctions for example the revs drop to below 500rpm the car vibrates and then the revs sometimes go up to the correct idle speed. -
Accident repair 3 Dec 2003 (Forum)
And onto the plastic bumper? Or is that just the joy of metallic paint and insurance jobs! I know Pologirl had a running discussion on this, were there any particulars with regard to the paint? Any advice appreciated. -
Broken rear windscreen - A4 Avant 1 Dec 2003 (Forum)
What was odd was that it didn\'t look like a break-in attempt. The damage was thus. There was a large crack running the length down both sides of the windscreen. At both bottom corners there were identically sized holes, about 15cm across. The screen itself looked like it had been pushed out not in. The glass broke off very easily with any movement. -
306 questions! 24 Nov 2003 (Forum)
There is a plastic arm hanging off the offside front suspension, attached by (knackered) ball joints to a bar that runs to the other side off the car, connected to a similar plastic bit and the front suspension, is this part of the anti roll bar setup? 4. Speedo doesn't work - I take it this model has a cable speedo since everything else stil works, are there any recommendations for taking the dash off, since I hear lots of swearing may be involved!
