Holden Astra CD 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
It has done 140000. It seems to run at the coldest mark when travelling at speed but when you are driving around town it seems normal. Is this a prob with themostat and if so is it dangerous to the car to run cold or do i not need to worry about it. Also when the car runs warm the car stalls when you push the clutch in and the revs drop from say 3000? -
Opel Astra automatic transmission 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
In the morning at the first start of the car the Sport Mode light flashes and the gearbox goes in limp mode. I can drive the car manually shifting. After 10-15 minutes if I stop and then start again the car, the gearbox will ran fine the rest of the day. I have changed the oil but no luck. Any suggestions ? -
Using spare for 1st time in ages (years) 26 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Its been in the back for a few years without use. The pressure is fine but I worry about using it after it being in storage for so long. I'm driving on motorways and can't get the tyre (slow puncture) checked out 1st thing. Cheers Rich -
2 problems with the Ford focus... 25 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Secondly there is a ticking noise coming from the engine bay that gets louder when you accelerate, again it just an annoying noise that doesnt affect the driving of the car. Many thanks in advance :) -
Mobile Phones - ENDORSABLE & £60 13 Mar 2007 (Forum)
In case you missed it and I must say I did; as from *** 27th FEBRUARY*** the use of a mobile phone whilst driving has moved into the endorsable and £60 Fixed Penalty catagory. Includes the supervisor of a provisional licence holder using the phone (which it always did). Any cases that reach court could involve discretionary disqualification and a maximum fine of £1,000 - or £2,500 in the case of the driver of a bus, coach or goods vehicle. -- Fullchat -
Xsara gearchange lumpy 8 Mar 2007 (Forum)
No problems getting it into gear, just doesn't feel that slick. I am, somewhat embarrassingly, comparing it to a 2007 Ford Transit which is wonderful to drive. Would changing the oil in the gearbox help? Likewise, are there any accessible bits or the selector mechanism I can lubricate? Cheers, David. -
Another new petition 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The RAF's bling if you will. And everyone needs a bit of bling in their life. Motoring - Hawk was a Humber car and i used to drive past Kemble a lot! -
tdi passat estate with no go! 21 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I am the owner of a 1999 passat tdi estate. Like the car a lot and it has been pretty reliable, though driving it has recently become a frustrating experience as the car has seem to have lost use of turbo and struggles to get going. acceleration is very slow and I can't get the rev counter to 4000 in any gear higher than 2nd. -
Winter Tyres a Sucess in Snow? 10 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Been driving my Passat PDI , with ESP etc., in snow the past few days on Vredestein Quatrac 2. Am happy with the extra grip and overtook several cars which were slewing about. Main problem was road closure or obstruction by other vehicles. -
Road Deaths Up 9 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Tucked away at the end of an article in today's Times about how the Driving Test is to have more emphasis on saving fuel/reducing emissions is the little nugget that road deaths have gobe up 33 in the last year. Nice to see those 'safety cameras' are doing their job so well! -
labouring new diesel engines? 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I've got a couple of mates with relatively new diesel cars (Audi A3 110 and 307 HDi). They both regularly drive 1000 - 1500 rpm in high gears which booms and makes the whole car shudder. Surely this is bad for the engine? But there's nothing in the user manual that says this is bad, it only tells you not to rev the thing too high for environmental reasons. -

First MOT 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Can't believe how quickly it has come around :-( I was wondering if there's anything I could do to prepare it for the diesel emisions test. I was thinking perhaps of taking it for a hard drive the night before. Do you think changing the oil might help? What about a fuel additive? And do the garages still rev the living daylights out of the poor engine to test it? Thanks -
Cars 'Settling' 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I don't just mean the suspension either as that is obvious - I took mine out after a week parked uphill on the drive (It goes up then down onto the road) and the creaks from the interior as the chassis flexed slightly were quite noticeable! Also, everything definitely felt better after a run, especially the steering and gearbox. -
Seat belt assist??? 1 Jan 2007 (Forum)
A friend's mother is having trouble reaching back to grab her seatbelt on her 3 door new shape focus. She drives with the seat fairly forward and at 70+ she really needs to find a way to bring the belt forward. I remeber seeing this on some coupes or convertibles - I just wonder if it can be retro fitted -and sourced for her Focus. -

Oh yes there are! 18 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I read with interest that there are no speed humps etc in Eastbburne....well if you drive down through Willingdon there they are and vicious they are too. In fact Eastbourne is trying tocharge motorists L R @ centre by having parking meters at places of natural outstanding beauty ...like the top of Butt's Lane on the Downs and the Beachy Head area etc. -

Rally of Wales gone soft? 2 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I note that the forthcoming rally has 230 miles of competitive driving over 17 stages and lasts for three days. In 1985 it had 570 miles and 63 stages over four days. Group B cars were running, it was a true test of the drivers and cars and was a superb event to follow. -
What's a 4 year old Octavia worth? 29 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I'm coming to the end of my company car lease and have the chance to buy the car I've been driving around in for the last 4 years. I can buy it at £4950 - is this a reasonable price? I tend to think it is but would welcome input from others. It's a Skoda Octavia Elegance estate 1.9 diesel (110bhp) done 74,000 miles and on a 52 plate.
