  • 01 Saab 9-3 2.2tid EML illuminating. 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The results were pressure in turbo (burst hose, replaced now) and Map sensor (now also replaced). Now when driving I have a lost power, the car runs fine up until just over 3000rpm and then the engine management light comes on, I come off the power and the light goes off again, if it happens in 5th gear the light comes on earlier and stays on( kill ignition to reset light) The Saab dealer says it is likely to be the air flow mass meter (£122) but i am unsure.

  • '00 BMW E38 2.8 - Loss of power 9 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I have a BMW E38 with the M52 engine (2.8) that has 30K miles on the clock X-reg. If it starts instantly it will run as it should but if it doesn?t start instantly then It has a lack of power for the journey. The DME error codes are code 65 inlet cam sensor. I have changed both the inlet and exhaust sensors re set the DME but the fault returns with the same code 65 and loss of power.
  • Volvo 850 - oil loss disaster 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
before i replace the sump and refill the oil, what other long-term or short term damage could this have caused by running an engine with next to no oil for 20 miles?. does it mean a new engine?? :¬( any help or wisdom very greatfully received. Subject line revised slightly - PU
  • 94 1.6 Corolla -sticky gearchange 22 Jun 2007 (Forum)
occasionally difficult to get into 1st, and sometimes reluctant to pull out of 3rd. Seems to be OK when cold, but particularly bad after a long fast motorway run, then when off hte motorway it is quite sticky afterwards. have done 114,000 miles, mainly all London traffic work, so its obviously getting worn and had a hard life... As the cars not worth much, can anyone recommend a different gearoil I can change to and/or an additive to add to the gearbox as well that might coax a few more miles out of it and just ease it a bit.
  • Scenic 1.6 2000 - coolant leak 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi My Scenic 1.6 manual shed most of its coolant yesterday on a relatively short run (15 miles). Temp light came on. Limped home stop/start avoiding major damage. On inspection, coolant is dripping onto road through round hole in plate underneath engine. Nothing visible from front of engine so assume leak is at back of block somewhere.
  • Golf GTI Mk1 clutch pedal 4 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Her practice sessions, two of which I have supervised, do rather punish the clutch, and I wondered if it might be on its way out, the high pedal being a sign of terminal wear? It doesn't slip. The car pinks a bit but otherwise runs perfectly, with no sign of overheating, clean oil and plenty of poke. It has been regularly serviced, until recently by a (good) VW specialist known to me. I am a bit worried that my friend will place it in the hands of an unsympathetic mechanic.
  • Renault Clio 1.4 RT starting problem 3 Jun 2007 (Forum)
My friend who is a mechanic came to have a quick look yesterday and he bridged one of the relays and the car started but when you took the keys out the engine kept running but there was severe load on the alternator. All other systems are fine, the dash comes on fine and all fuses have been checked. My gut feeling is it could be one of these relay's? But if anyone else has any other idea's I will give it a try.
  • Computer Related Questions - Volume 127 16 May 2007 (Forum)
Have spent some time and reinstalled XP (didnt do a full system clear and rebuild but ran the disc back through and a fresh download of IE7 . Anyway everything seems to be running ok. However when I go to shutdown and press 'Switch Off' I am told that it is now safe to switch off manually which I have to do; where as previously the switch off would be automatic. Have had a look under Power management etc but cant find anything.
  • VW Golf MK2 and manual choke problems. 16 May 2007 (Forum)
Is this a problem with the carb that can be adjusted or is there anything simple like a blocked hose or something that could be causing it. As soon as the engine warms up it runs lovely.
  • A5 Speeding Tickets Revoked 7 May 2007 (Forum)
I've driven this stretch of road, the signage is visible enough and it's had its share of fatalities over the years (Including an off-duty Police Officer a couple of years ago), it has become a lot busier of late and an 83 acre industrial/"leisure" park will contribute to increased traffic levels, remember that Gwynedd Council is a member of the "Safety Partnership" that run the camera vans, if they were a member of my partnership I'd have them out on the Golf Course. Highly embarrasing for them. I followed this story in the press and whilst I applaud the "get-out" as I said the signage is totally visible but playing the devil's advocate here shouldn't these 3000 driver's have noticed the signs or where they driving without seeing......IYKWIM.
  • Setting points gap vs dwell angle. 7 May 2007 (Forum)
My interpretation is that if the Dwell angle is measuring to low this equates to the gap being too large. Is this correct? Also that it will have a marginal effect on timing, but well if it is running ok so what! -- pmh (was peter)
  • how to clean up a smokey 306 hdi diesel? 27 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I own a 306 hdi (2000) and went on a long run over the weekend. I thought it would be a good time for some injector treatment along the way. The car at the minute feels great, lovely and smooth so it was just because i had some in the shed.
  • Escort Encore 1.6 braking problem 25 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Its only luck that no other vehicles have been around at the same time. I wear quite chunky boots for driving so put it done to this but then my Dad took it for a test run today and the same thing happened to him! Has anyone ever heard of this problem. I have driven for 20 years and have always been quite confident but as you can imagine I am not comfortable driving this vehicle.
  • Pothole warning - A3 slip at Tolworth 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It is near to the start of the slip lane and unless you know where it is, it is almost impossible to see it until it is too late to avoid it. Naturally, it is located exactly where your right hand side wheels will run if you are coming up the right hand lane in the slip road in order to turn south along the A240 towards Epsom... It gave one bleep of a hard jolt; heavy enough to wake up my wife and cause her to ask "What was that?!"
  • 04 Daihatsu Charade squeaking sound 19 Feb 2007 (Forum)
It cannot be heard higher up the rev range (drove to Oxford and back from London this week-end and the only time you could hear it was when pulling out of junctions or edging forwards in traffic - no trace of it on the motorway). Any ideas? The warranty runs out on 1st March, so am going to book it in tomorrow! Many thanks Regards, Rob E ==========
  • peugeot 306 Overheating 13 Feb 2007 (Forum)
We are going to change the spark plugs and stuff, as it doesnt like to start too well, as it has been sitting so long, but i think the new plugs and good run should solve that. Please please, can anyone help! Linz
  • blast from the past 12 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I was left with the impression that it would be very rugged and able to give good service at minimal cost for another 10 years. Not comfortable but dependable and cheap to run. I hope the shiny new model Hiluxes and Tritons haven't lost the basic simplicity and ruggedness of the standard Japanese one tonner. I am beginning to see why people are buying them instead of cars.
  • LPG Escort 6 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Meanwhile in the real world I have a 51 Escort van with an LPG conversion which doesnt want to switch over to gas. It has 100K , runs perfectly well on petrol but cuts out when switched over even though the gas tank is full. I suspect its a solenoid/filter problem but before I dig too deeply under the bonnet I wonder if anybody can suggest anything which will save me time.
  • Fiesta TDCI injectors 31 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Roll on October 2006, same problems reoccuring, brought to dealer again in november and this time 3 injectors replaced FOC, but no further investigation or interest in possible underlying problem. Car running fine again but expecting a reoccurance and getting stung for new injectors at some stage, would like to keep the car, but have a lack of confidence. Any suggestions as to the underlying problem? I think 2002 was the first of the TDCI fiestas so maybe a design fault or ECU issue?
