  At my age now, a smaller car would be fine since I now drive only locally with a long drive to Kent perhaps once a year. I can afford up to £10,000 and need a reliable and inexpensive to run automatic. Is the Legend worth anything as scrap? VM, Derby The Legend is probably worth £200 as scrap; maybe more as a spares donor car. It may even be worth preserving for someone prepared to make the belt change himself.

  Throughout the L200’s near 10 year production run it would see some changes to its specification. In 2010, the L200 gained the option of a five-speed automatic, while power was increased to 175PS. There was also a very slight restyle inside and out, with the exterior getting new fog lamp housings and a redesigned grille. Advertised fuel economy for the 2.5-litre diesels officially span from 34 – 37mpg.

  Also noteworthy was the £13,200 raised by an exceptionally smart 1987 XJS-C 3.6 Cabriolet with just 52,000 miles on the clock and forecast to fetch nearer £9,000. A trio of Daimler 2.5 V8s also found new homes. A tidy 1965 automatic with a recent repaint fetching a market correct £14,100 while an average 1969 example raised £9100 and a smart and very rare 1968 manual overdrive looked a snip at  £11,500, perhaps  held back by its brown paint with pale blue leather colour scheme.

  The 1959 3.4 XK150 FHC was the subject of a comprehensive, £40,000 restoration in 1999/2000 by Lawford Heath Classics to ‘factory fresh’ condition (£35000-40000), while the 1958 XK150 DHC was restored and upgraded some years ago and features a modern, ZFHP22, 4-speed automatic transmission, stainless steel exhaust, 15 inch chrome wire wheels, uprated cooling system with a Kenlowe fan, Vicarage power steering, adjustable AVO shock absorbers and uprated brake servo (£37500-40000).

  While the X5 3.0d and X5 3.0sd emit 214g/km and 216g/km respectively, the very latest LTI Vehicles TX4 2.5 produces 233g/km. By contrast the biggest selling BMW X3, the 2.0d automatic, produces just 178g/km. It’s a similar story with regard to fuel consumption. On the combined cycle the X5 3.0d achieves 34.9mpg compared to a black cab’s 32mpg. The X3 2.0d trumps this by recording 42.2mpg.

  Why 2019 could be the best time to buy a diesel 1 Feb 2019 (News)
  All modern diesels are fitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF), which is designed to reduce harmful emissions but can become clogged over time. Driving at high speeds for prolonged periods will cause DPFs to automatically regenerate, burning off the accumulated soot in the filter and preventing any issues caused by a blocked DPF. If most of your driving is around town, the DPF won't be able to regenerate and could become blocked.

  Another car that performed particularly well at this very busy sale was a beautiful 1971 Jaguar E-type S3 roadster, which sold for £39,037, despite having automatic transmission. At the same sale a record-breaking £9,600 was achieved for a quite outstanding 1977 Ford Granada Ghia, while ‘Humphrey’, the Morris Minor Traveller that has starred in the BBC CBeebies television series Gigglebiz sold for £3,356.

  Three on-demand drive modes Prius’s transmission is supplemented by three “on-demand” drive modes the driver can select to increase efficiency, performance and fuel economy. From start-up and at speeds less than 44mph, Prius automatically operates in EV mode, using electric motor power alone. The petrol engine is only introduced under hard acceleration to boost system power. The driver can also use a switch to activate EV mode manually.

  On long motorway trips, the driver can set the required speed, then radar cruise control will maintain it while braking and accelerating to ensure a safe distance from the car in front. When a Stilo enters a tunnel, its headlamps will be switched on automatically upon the instructions of a sensor. The first raindrops of a sudden shower will activate the windscreen wipers via a rain sensor. Parking manoeuvres can also be aided by a parking sensor.
