  First..I've had lots of cars including petrol , high milegae diesels etc so not generally all the pitfalls and arguments or petrols vs diesel etc as I will be doing about 6k miles a year ..BUT I dont know these cars..I have around £ 1200 to spend on a car which generally will be used locally, once a week to visit clients(50miles) and 2 or 3 times a year trips to cornwall(300miles)... BMW 520i petrol BMW 525D VW Passat 1.9 Tdi Jag XType 2.0D Audi A4 1.9 Tdi Saab 9-3 2.0 Petrol I am not a mechanic but I have a brilliant independent guy that saves me money Cheers

    So back to the drawing board - I have a budget £3-£5k and was considering a BMW 520d-530d auto obvouusly considering the fact with this budget they will be high mileage BMW's.   Any advice or should I look for something else? Audi A6 2.7 TDI perhaps?    Main factors are: has to be family car, auto, decent mpg, preferably diesel (approx 10k miles per year), readily available parts, and a pleasure to drive.

  Hi, I recently had my 120d M Sport serviced by a non-BMW dealer but they were not able to reset the OBC to alter the service indicator. I have since spoken to BMW about this an they have told me I need to make a booking and take it in so they can update it- at a cost of course!

  Halfords actually do one specifically for VW505 requirement... I personally have used Halfords in my BMW and the wife's Audi and my scooby when I was in the UK... but I have also used castrol and mobile before.... Thought's... why pay more if it meets the requirements?

  I have been offerered a BMW 318se 1994 for free from a relation who does not need it anymore. This car has done 88k miles, was regularly serviced, and was used regularly until recently. The problem with it is that it won't start, the engine needs cranking for ages for it to start and then it runs fine.

  This started to happen occasionally about 3 months ago on my 1 series 116i, bought as second owner but previously used as a demonstrator model direct from Williams BMW? It went in to BMW in March and has been 'upgarded' with the latest software which was supposed to fix the fault, but gradually it has become worse. It has been back today and I have been told that they 'did not switch on' all of the software last time and it was their error, so has been rectified!!

  I have serached the internet and there are a couple of cases, but I would expect not to many 1150`s have reached high enough mileage yet to fail? The bike has been BMW serviced since new and I feel BMW should repair the bike for free. Any help comments etc will be good. Thanks tweak to header to include brief summary of problem

  then i get a poping noise when i rev and the choke does not come on. I also checked when i undo the engine filler cap i get a suction, do bmw suck in when engine running. Any help much appricated.

  I have a BMW 320D bought at one year old. I bought it at new year from BMW. I think the last owner sold it because it has an unfixable fault. The car sometimes shakes, engine shakes, usually it runs fine. If you want to pull out into traffic then sometime the pick up is really bad.

  Seeing my old 'Ex Met Police Vectra V6' thread being resurrected got me thinking; I'm not in the market for one, but I'm seeing more and more of the Metropolitan Police BMW 530d cars going through Ebay and on Auto Trader for what seems like good money. Models as new as 04 plates going for around £8000 with 90k on the clock. They're all semi auto (or whatever BMW call it) and are all uprated from 193bhp to 225bhp from factory.

  Appreciate some advice. Am taking delivery of a 530d A SE next Tuesday from BMW. They've asked if I want to pay £299 to have a BMW Seal & Protect applied to inside and exterior of car. Costs keep adding up so is it a rip off? They've agreed to do it for £249 and it comes with a 2 year guarantee.

  I am considering buying an L reg BMW 318i from a work colleague. He says it could do with a new clutch which I intend to fit myself. (I have a kit car so am used to doing things like this). My question is how straightforward is a clutch change on this car and are there any special tools required for the BMW?

  Haven't been here for a while - I hope this isn't an old topic! I have a BMW 318ti Compact, 1999. I bought it 2 and a half years ago (not from a main dealer) with a full BMW service history. I've maintained this history with BMW. My last service cost £257 (inspection 1) which included the 10% discount they give for 4 year old+ vehicles.

  I recently had my 1997 R reg BMW 323i Auto MOT\'d at a BMW dealership in Warwick. The car failed on emmissions and i was told the Lambda Probe would require replacing. Subsequently, having had the work completed, on examining the emmissions Gas Analysis sheet i noticed that the lambda test had in fact passed and the o2 emmissions had failed.

  A passer-by stopped me today and said he is having a row with the local BMW dealership over the leather seats in his 325. When you lower the rear armrest, one side of the gap in the rear seats is leather, the other side appears to be suede (or leather put on back to front?)

  I am looking for an E36 BMW 328i (made from 94-98) and am reading that they can suffer premature bore wear caused by high sulphur content in some UK petrol. The car I am after must have a full BMW service history and to be in my price range will have to be an earlier car and probably have to have 60000+ miles, how do I go about safeguarding against buying one with premauture bore wear?
