Not to sure if this should be in general or not......

Ok, I know my car needs BMW Longlife LL04 and brands like Castrol etc meet this....

What are people thoughts on using Halford's own oil that meets this requirement or lesser know oils also meeting the same?

For example, castrol is expensive stuff... but halfords is considerable cheaper... the same goes for my wife's Audi.. Halfords actually do one specifically for VW505 requirement...

I personally have used Halfords in my BMW and the wife's Audi and my scooby when I was in the UK... but I have also used castrol and mobile before....

Thought's... why pay more if it meets the requirements?

Interesting discussion.

I tend to use "brand name" oils, unless I happen to have an ageing car at the time and then I'll use anything.

I just used some Esso 5w-40 fully synthetic oil in my diesel as the weather here has been at -30c recently. I would not want to put such stresses on "non brand name" oil.

Supermarket diesel also meets "specs" but it's been known to cause quite severe problems occasionally.

We use Exol Oils for BMW, Mercedes, VAG etc. Not many outside the trade have heard of them but they are the UK's biggest independent oil supplier - much used in the trade. Retail price of 5L of VAG 507 spec is about £25. We buy in volume for much less. They do a BMW LL oil. You can't buy retail from them (trade only supply) but LubeTech will sell and ship to you for sensible money (try www.lubetechshop.co.uk ).
If you are changing oil regularly it will pay to buy at least 20L or a 25L drum.

BMW LL04 is a bit over £20 for 5L retail, about £65 for 25L. HTH.

Hi,
Opie oils have 15% - 30% off until end of day. I have also used Nielsen, 1L Castrol free with 4L. Or try motor factors, Partco sell Fuchs and Castrol.

I used to use branded oils, until I worked in a marketing office and realised it's all psychological bull. I now buy Delphi synthetic @ £25 for 5 litres. It is VW 507.00 and BMW LL (sorry can't remember number). I think it is rebadged Castrol, just as Halfords is just a more expensive version of (Comma/Esso/Mobil).

thanks all..... i think basically as long as you are not buying really cheap cheap brands it is pretty much a washout..... I will for now stick to using halfords whilst i'm here in prague.
