SORN & poss £5000 fine. 17 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, My tax and MOT expired at the end of Dec, so as I do not need the car, I applied for a SORN and parked it off road. I will not need my {2nd} car for a month or two. The SORN came back with a warning of a £5000 fine if I use the car on the public highway. Yet, in my local paper each week, there are details of court cases where people with no TAX, insurance or MoT have been fined a pittance {no where near £5000} ? -

2019 Ford Fiesta MK8 - Electrical Fault 1 Mar 2022 (Forum)
After I drove for half an hour with the windows open, I pulled over, switched the engine off, opened the driver door to reset the ignition, started it up again - it worked fine again. Then on the way back to Manchester after being left in a car park for 5 hours, the SYNC 3 system switched off completely and stopped charging my phone. After about 10 seconds, it came back on and was fine. -
Ford Fiesta - First car claim need some help 5 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Hi guys new member her I am just after some opinions of what you think my Insurance company is probably going to do to my car. The backstory: I parked my car at work which is tesco and they have signs which say the don't accept liability which is fine. Between 8am and 12pm my car got damaged although the third party went and spoke to the security guys instore and left me a note with their details and signed for accepting full responsibility of the damage. -
Honda Accord Tourer - Weird boot problem 7 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I have a weird problem with my Accord Tourer. I parked my car this morning and it was fine, however when I drove it home I noted the boot open light was on. I stopped, opened and closed the boot but the light was still on. I opened it again and used the powered closing mechanism (which is working fine) and this still didn't make the light go off. -
Renault Clio 1.6 "HELP" 5 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Just bought a 1.6RXE Clio and everything seemed fine. It had been in some ones garage for a month and had had head gasket work done on it etc - £600+ worth. Went to see it a few times and it seemed fine. Drove it home today (longest run its had in months as the guy towed it to get the engine job done, and the MOT test centre was only 4miles down the road.) and the fuel light was on as i set off.... -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 'Check Parking Brake' warning after pad change 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The brakes work fine, and the parking brake works as it should... I don't really want to take it to a Renault dealer. Any help much appreciated! Regards, Rick. Subject line tweak to make everything fit [removed engine size - I know, I know :-( ] altered year to read 2004 - don't think they made electronic parking brakes in 1954 - sensible chaps ! -
2011 toyota auris hybrid, with NAV - Fitting CARPLAY, to a mk1 toyota auris 10 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Is this a big job, the unit is a double din touchscreen, with NAV, and reverse cam, but the standard radio sucks, no DAB, and the maps are slow and outdated, CARPLAY would be much better. I can pull the old unit out, just fine, many connectors to the rear, i can't see the 'upload pics' option, i took several! Has steering wheel controls too, but not bothered about those, i do however want to retain the rear parking cam (for her...) -
Astra J 2013 SRi A16XER - No Central Display, Radio and Centre Buttons Inop 3 Apr 2021 (Forum)
The central display has flickering lines, no radio function, apart from the steering wheel controls and the buttons above (parking sensor ec) have also ceased to function. The car was fine when last left and has shown no other problems. I suspect water ingress but any other ideas or where to look as ever gratefully received. -
How to avoid getting your car towed away 21 Oct 2019 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/ypjjzr Apparently Glasgow City Council's removal lorries can only lift "normal" cars and this businessman, so far, has got round the ruling albeit he is paying parking tickets. Wonder why they don't introduce clamping for such vehicles? OK the fine won't put him off but the inconvenience might! airport pickups 24 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I have never picked up from Stansted previously so I am a novice and don't want to be either ripped off for parking or fined via a camera for transgressing some spurious marked zone. Does anyone on the forum have the lowdown on how to pick up safely and sensibly from Stansted? Your comments would be appreciated. -
No front number plate 6 Apr 2011 (Forum)
The famous owner simply pays the £60 fine everytime he's caught - there's no points attached to this offence. It also means he can ignore Gatso average speed cameras. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 02 2.0 Autobox gearstick illumination not working 10 Oct 2009 (Forum)

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 Hissing noise from front wheel 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Recently noticed a hissing noise coming under the front drivers side wheel arch after driving the car, which stops about 15 seconds after parking the car. Sounds like its coming from the wheel/brake on that side. Tyre pressures are fine and no obvious problems on tyre so don't think its air leaking from there, but the noise is just like the noise of a puncture. -
Jeep Grand Cherokee (1994 - 1999) - 95 4.0 Unable to start 15 Aug 2009 (Forum)
My jeep was parked one morning and in the afternoon it would not start, checked for spark and there isn't one. The commonest problem I've seen with these is the crank sensor although this did seem a bit all of a sudden as there was now warning or other problems leading up to it. fuel pump primes and engine turns over fine. -
FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - 96 1.0 Handbrake light coming on when driving. 20 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Fiat Punto - the dashboard handbrake warning light is coming on when driving at certain quite low speeds but goes off when you stop. The light work fine when you put the handbrake on to park. Seems something is loose or reacting to the forward movement of the car to make a contact somewhere and thus the light comes on. Not had a really good look as yet but thought I would ask if anyone had had this before or could diagnose the reason. -
Speed limiter and cruise control 22 Feb 2008 (Forum)
All the cruise contol equiped cars i've driven do that anyway? The car I'm looking at has both speed limiter and cruise control. Plus it has an auto parking brake with hill start assist. Do they work well? I managed without them just fine all these years. Sounds v expensive if things go pear shaped? Ta -
Nissan Almera Knocking Noise 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Sounded at first like a dodgy driveshaft, but I took the car to a good local garage, and they did a "pre-MOT inspection", found no problems with the wheel bearings, driveshafts or CV gaiters. Brakes were also fine. The only thing I've not considered is tracking - could this cause a constant knocking? Knock is also apparent when steering lock-to-lock (i.e. parallel parking). Any suggestions welcome. Thanks. -
Carlton gearbox noise 7 Apr 2006 (Forum)
1993 Vauxhall Carlton 2.0 auto I've had a "groaning" noise from my autobox when in neutral for some time and now this occurs in park also, usually when the engine has been warmed up. The fluid is topped-up and a good colour. Can anybody shed any light on the source/problem? The box works fine (grabs tree), and is silent in drive or through the gears. -
