  • petrol bias 26 Apr 2002 (Forum)
The first a feeling that your growing biased to the manufacturers regularly and increasingly giving them the benefit of the doubt. And secondly regularly endorsing often the more expensive branded fuels offered by esso and shell etc. especially for high performance or sporty models. I know of two police forces that fill all there vehicles including patrol cars and high pursuit vehicles at the local supermarket, strange given what you say about performance and damage?
  • Rover 416 / yr. 1994 10 Apr 2002 (Forum)
There appears to be no problems at all when under acceleration and the car is generally performing well. Programmed fuel injection is fitted with,(so I am told) little scope for adjustment.
  • Tyre Test Results 18 Dec 2001 (Forum)
The cost of tyres is now the third highest element of car ownership, after depreciation and fuel. This is because service intervals have increased and wearing parts last much longer, while tyres wear out quicker because of "better" rubber compounds, tread patterns and suspension design. What we need is published comparative data for tyre road tests so that we can choose which tyres for our cars.
  • Non-ECU Diesels 5 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Cavalier Replacement? thread, David Woollard made the point: ?It is still a point everyone has to learn that ECU fuel injection in old cheap cars is going to be a major problem in years to come, often they aren't worth fixing.? He went on to suggest a (non-ECU) Xantia diesel. This is a point that is regularly made, for the benefit of those of us that don?
  • Rover 820 injector question 17 Sep 2001 (Forum)
at a cost of £800, obviously out of the question to him. It's a 91 model with "only" 80k and he'd like to keep it, so could any kind soul recommend a fuel injection independent in the Heathrow area or other tips to get the car back within limits? Cheers Colin
  • Wide body Alfa 155 20 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I understand the post 95 cars should only be considered and am thinking the 2L 16v (150bhp) that combines power with reasonable fuel ecconomy is my best bet. What spec does the sports option add? I am aware of the Professor Brainstorm designed electrics, and the usual service history points to look out for, but anyone out there with any particular knowledge of this series and any handy hints............Thanks and all that
  • Re 'Chipping' 27 Jul 2001 (Forum)
A friend has recently had his BMW 3 series re-chipped and not only has it increased his performance but he says it has improved his fuel consumption. Apparently it has not affected his warranty. I have a Honda Accord 2.0I SE VTEC and wodered if it would be an advantage to look into re-chipping and whether it is likely to give me the same benefits without affecting warranty.
  • 4 Wheel drive (cars) 30 Apr 2001 (Forum)
of 4 wheel drive as fitted to road cars (not off-roaders). Typically Quattro with Audis. Presumably there is a loss of accelaration and fuel efficiency? ...more drag, two gearboxes. Also given typical UK weather is rarely extreme, and roads are fairly good, are there really and benefits if you're using the car as your everyday transport?
  • Holley Carburettor 30 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I would appreciate advice on: A)recommended products/methods to clean out old petrol from a Holley carb (car has been left standing for some time and old fuel will have evaporated by now leaving a non-combustible residue behind) B) Any suggested Holley experts in the Surrey to get the carb set up? Jet sizes. etc. It was always a devil to start before and time won't have helped it!
  • Grade of Petrol 20 Nov 2000 (Forum)
I've got a 2.0 Focus ESP and am slightly disappointed with the fuel consumption - I get 28 mpg on my daily commute, 32 mpg on a long run. I do have a heavy right foot though! I was wondering if I switched to 97 octane from the 95 I cuurently use if I would get better mpg and performance..

  • Renault Clio - Should I change my car to a diesel? (advice) 3 Jun 2022 (Forum)
However, very recently I have done a lot of travelling far and wide over the UK and in the last 3 months I have totalled up my fuel bills and this has come to way over £500 – nearly £600!. I know were in situation where fuel prices are rising weekly (sometimes daily where I live). I have many more trips planned ahead which will be long distance, so this makes me conscious of the fact the price of the petrol I will be consuming will be an expensive outgoing.
