MG MG ZT (2001 - 2005) - 04 2.5 'chirping' sound 30 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The fuel lines do seem to make a small sound but nothing like as loud as the 'chirp'. Before I go back to the garage again, does anyone have any ideas please on what the cause could be? Thanks in advance -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 96 1.9dt Strange starting problem 14 Mar 2008 (Forum)
so any ideas?? I have a few.... is there anything in the pump that could cut fuel apart from the stop solenoid? could the stop solenoid be faulty and even though it appears to be working it isnt? could the pump be knackered and only work when it wants? -
Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 2002 2.2 DCi - Power problems. 12 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I did post on this site a while back regarding my "poorly" Espace (2.2DCi 2002) with the fuel pump/injector problems. The upshot of it all was that I had all 4 injectors replaced at a cost of some £1300! Anyway, recently another problem has raised its ugly head! Namely a loss of power when half way down on the accelerator. -
Petrol Stations 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
No, we have to sit in a queue, sometimes out onto the carriageway until these selfish idiots decide to move on. The only thing that should be sold in these places is fuel. If you want a shop, find one. We want to fill up and get on our way. There is nothing more frustrating than the parked cars at pumps blocking the way out. Then you stand in a queue waiting for them to pay. -
Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 1997 220 Diesel ECU problems 9 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I'm off work on the sick so spending 300+ at the moment is really scaring me. My partner has found in the Haynes book a fuel shut off relay so we are wondering if it could be that, logically not that im anywhere near an expert this makes sense as the fault is intermittent and if it was the shut off valve people have said it would be on or off. -
Volkswagen Golf II (1983 - 1992) - 1.6 Fast idle with Weber 32/34 5 Sep 2007 (Forum)
hi wonder if anyone can help, i have recently fitted a weber 32/34 to my golf 1.6 mk2, it was a second hand carb, but i refurbed it witha brand new weber service kit. When i first fit it, the floats were set too high and fuel went everywhere, after careful prodding the floats are now about 10mm, any less and it doesnt let fuel through at all... I have had it tuned, mixture set and the timing corrected at a garage, however im having a problem with fast idle when hot, when i first start it its fine, then it seem erratic sometimes it fine and other times it revs away. -
Don't want to tax 13 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Here in the backroom we are constantly moaning about taxes. Congestion tax, fuel duty, road tax and the dreaded taxes for 4X4 etc are all included. It stuck me that we may be able to develop a consensus of what we should not tax, rather than complaining about the new taxes. I will tell you the behavours from car owners I think should not attract taxation. 1. -
Ford Escort 1.8 TD starting trouble 8 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Now my question is, when i prime it, it takes ages befor it starts spitting fuel out the block bit and becomes stiff to push. should it? Also there is a hissing noise when it goes in and out.....so to me this says the diaphram is knackered but i would like some more expert views? -
Nissan Tino 2.2 DCI 2004 17 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Then the fault reoccurs a day or so later . Back to the dealer who then tells me, that from the diagnostics it is a fuel pump problem and warns me that it may befuel contamination and if so, it is not covered by the warranty. Somewhat shocked I ask at what cost . The reply was "not too bad, only about £800" I ask him if he is living in the real world!! -
? change diesel injectors (Fiat) 4 Oct 2005 (Forum)
This is a 2.4 litre turbo charged diesel (not common rail) that has done 82,500 miles. My initial reaction has been to add some injection cleaner to a new tank of fuel. For the past few days it has been running fine, but this morning the problem returned. I believe it may not be firing on one or more of the 5 cylinders for a brief time due to fuel starvation. -
Car immobiliser problem - Honda Prelude 7 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Between the wires, there was a "Ford" relay-type thing - It was a small yellow cube connected between the wires of this immobiliser. Taking this all out, the vehicle still refuses to start most of the time. The Prelude is a fuel-injection version (It's a 2.0L fuel injection petrol manual "K" reg) - I'm starting to get the sudden feeling there's a third box somewhere or in some form other than a box, but I've spent three days looking for it, and haven't found it, so dunno. -

Bad diesel???? 24 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Unusual because it was always willing to pull well when running at 80 mph earlier in the day. Questions are: Does the premium fuel have anything that could cause this? (unlikely). Is it likely that normally nobody else will pay such an extortionate price in France for diesel and this fuel has been sitting in storage for months? -
Focus TDCi injector fault / power loss 29 Apr 2005 (Forum)
It's OK for say the first couple of bends on a nice B road, or an overtaking squirt on the motorway from 70mph, but after the 2 or so corners / straights or if I'm going at 80 and want to accelerate - nothing there. I thought it was the fabled dodgy fuel pump, but the only fault code we could foind was P1200 - 'faulty injector'. The technician said that he has seen a lot of TDCi's with knackered injectors (they seem particularly prone to damage)which feed back data to the ECU, which shuts down the fuel delivery, presumably to prevent further damage. it's not a critical fault, so the glow plug light does not flash. -
1.4 206 HDi mpg and low revs 1 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I would have expected to be in fourth at 30mph and 5th at 40mph. Obviously having to be in the highers gears doesn't help my fuel consumption problem! I would appreciate any thoughts/advice Many thanks Jon -
Peugeot 306dt low compression 23 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I have a '95 Peugeot 306 dt which has suffered from poor starting for a long time. The car starts, but runs very rough for around 30s from cold. When warm the car drives ok. After trying and failing to find air leaks in the fuel system,I booked it in with a diesel specialist who has said the fuel system is fine but has diagnosed low compression (270psi) on one of the cylinders. I have had three quotes from engine specialists to put this right, all around £1000.All of them seemed surprised that the engine should have this fault at a relatively low mileage (88K),but seemed convinced that it was pistons or piston rings. Two of the places said I'd be better off with a recon engine,or getting rid of the car before it got any worse! -
Vectra DTi Starting .. the last straw 23 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I have a 'W' reg Vectra 2.0 DTi which has had the common problem of not starting if left for a while. Accepted wisdom on this problem is that it is caused by air leaks in the fuel system. This is generally cured by replacing the bleed off pipes, changing the injector seals, replacing the filter housing and fitting a non-return valve in the fuel pipe. So we tried all that. No joy. -
Saab 9000 Auto.. Buying advice ??? 27 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Must be auto, good legroom as I am very tall, hatchback or estate and decent spec. And reliable and not horrific fuel consumption (ie. not V6 or V8s)!!!!! Many Thanks !! -
306 XSi Engine behaving oddly... 11 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Fuel problem? ignition problem? or something more fundamental like a head gasket? any ideas please? -
Can you provide more details of the emissions testing that the Wolfsburg Volkswagen engineers carried out? 3 Mar 2017 (Ask HJ)
I'm experiencing a lot less mpg, more noise, more DPF regeneration and less power since my car had the emissions update in August 2016. If you are in touch...
