  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 01 1.7D Replacing diff. bearings 22 Feb 2009 (Forum)
t=71745 yorkiebar was right (unfortunately). The play is all in the diff, at both ends (shame I didn't spot that in the N/S before!). So, my question now is, will the 'box have to come out, or can the situation be saved in situ (I'm assuming the 'access plate' under the diff. allows you to do something)? Many thanks.
  • What's the point of driving a quick car slowly? 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Just venting my frustration here but left work today and got stuck behind an Aston Martin. Yes, stuck. I couldn't keep up in the 30's (since it was doing a steady 45ish) and then when we got to derestricted roads we managed a steady 40 but braked at the merest hint of any curve, whether we needed to or not. Any overtaking opportunities were thwarted by oncoming traffic.
  • Chrysler - FIAT takes a stake [Read Only] 21 Jan 2009 (Forum)
FIAT are to take a 35% stake in Chrysler, according an online business report: 'The Italian car company will get a 35 percent ownership stake in Chrysler and an opportunity to bring its Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands back to the United States through Chrysler?s dealership network. In exchange, Fiat will bring Chrysler what it needs to be a viable player in the evolving United States market, with its fuel-efficient engine technology and the engineering that goes into its small cars.'
  • Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 2003 1.0 Keyed car 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Bodyshops don't work cheap. To get the rear quarter and door repaired after a keying incident on our old Fiesta Zetec-S, cost £650 at an indie bodyshop seven years ago! I took it down there with a view to paying for it myself, and ended up sticking it through on the insurance after I got the quote.
  • Audi A3 + S3 (1996 - 2001) - 1999 1.8 ABS light occasionally illuminating!! 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
A friend of mine has a audi a3 1.8 sport 1999 and the ABS light comes on occasionally, it always goes away again, she had a VAG diagnostic test done and the fault code was something like no power to abs brakes, so the garage who did it cleared the fault code and for a while it did not come on, then recently its starting to come on again, she wanted to know is there any common faults with ABS on audi A3's? or how to solve this problem? thanks in advance
  • General Question - eggy windscreen washer fluid 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Haven't got the means to pump fluid out into a bucket. I don't think removing the washer tank is simple although haven't looked closely. Greg S
  • Vauxhall Astra H Sporthatch (2005 - ) - 2006 1.6 Tow bar electrics????? 26 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The tow bar is a simple enough job to fit very similar to my 2000 astra, but the electrics are a bit different. There is a panel in the boot on the n/s/ when opened there is a small fuse box and plugs with one empty space, is this for the tow bar wiring? Or do i just fit like solder the wires in, id rather not use scotch locks. The tow bar is second hand the wiring as been cut off so no plug if needed?.
  • Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - Torque steer 7 Sep 2008 (Forum)
The 170ps and 200ps models on 05/55 plates can be picked up for around the £6-7k mark now, in excellent condition. Also there's a few 1.9CDTI 150's showing up too for around the same price range. Just wondering with this car, is torque steer still an issue with this chassis? Does it only really show its head when your full throttle trying to launch the car from standstill?
  • Vauxhall Zafira B (2005 - ) - Zafira Roof Rack 27 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I have a Zafira on a 56 plate with the panoramic roof option and now I wish t add a set of roof bars to carry the children?s bikes. I already have tailgate bike carrier so I need to explore this option. Has anyone purchased a set of roof bars for a Zafira with this option and if so could you tell me which set? The middle section of the panoramic roof is about 2 cms above the level of the roof rails so there is a clearance issue that I am concerned about.
  • Real life Yaris MPG 28 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Anybody able to offer real-life figures on MPG for the 1.0 and 1.3? GS upwards preferred as these have "real" tyres and roadholding, whereas the S has skinny econo-rubber. Likewise would welcome any "real" figures for the D-4D. Have some sums to do as to whether the higher cost to buy a D-4D will be worth it. Expecting to do c.15k pa. Have a feeling the budget my be going up.....
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 95 1.9 gearbox removal 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Wanting to drop box for a look and I'm told it'll come clean out the bottom without lowering subframe/removing wishbone n/s? Can that be done? It's gonna be a toss up, me or the garage! Many thanks

  • Ford - £5,000 to spend, which Ford estate? 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)
He'll use the car for Dad's taxi runs, viewing the relatives, trips to airports and offices around the S of England etc. No regular commuting. He reckons he'll clock up 12k a year, he thinks he's best off with a petrol estate, and he really only wants Ford. Question is whether it's a Focus or Mondeo.

  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 2007 1.6LX - Increased tyre noise vs 1999 Focus 16 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Although an improved car I am disappointed by the increased tyre noise. The original car had Michelin Energy tyres, whereas the new one is fitted with Pirelli P7's. Does anyone know if there is a reason why the new car should have increased tyre noise, especially at motorway speeds, or is it just down to the Pirelli tyres?
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 2.0 hdi lx, ex Motability value? 16 Dec 2007 (Forum)

  • Trailer questions (switch, payload, number plate). 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
How can I find out, or estimate, the payload? The bit which clips over the tow ball has "AT 750Kg" on it, and "S 75Kg" - are these maximum for the component? I find it hard to believe that the trailer is OK for 750Kg, and can't find another plate on it. Do I need a car-type number plate, or can I make up a decent DIY one and be road-legal?
  • Quick estate & m.p.g 3 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I've currently got a mazda bongo which i use for short trips to teach dog training and weekend trips on the motorway but the m.p.g is killing me 25 around town and 30 if im steady on the motorway do 70-80 and it drops well into the 20's. Im thinking of selling/trading it and getting a large estate such as: Bmw 528/530 Merc c240/250 e230/320 Volvo t5 Subaru legacy Mitsubishi vr4 the 2 jap options seem good value for money(imports) and i import garage will hopefully be more intrested in the bongo, but the main thing is the estates m.p.g?
