  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 1.8 Car stalls at lights when temp is high 15 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I must admit, up until recently, I never saw it go much past the quarter mark....so I am wondering if this is temperature related? I recently had the ignition coil replaced and fuel filter replaced. Ahh, one other bit of info which may be relevant - I took the battery out of the Mondeo to start another car. I then charged the battery up full over 24hrs before putting it back into the Mondeo.
  • Volkswagen Sharan (1995 - 2009) - 09 2.0 Bluemotion diesel 'EGR bounce' 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
for >10 years and never experienced anything like this - has anyone heard of it? It may be unrelated but I am also very disappointed with the fuel economy - only 35-40 mpg which is a little worse than my previous 10-year-old version and hardly justifies the 'Bluemotion' label! (& the extra price). I note that the garage say the old EGR valve was very carbonised after only 8 months.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.8 Diesel expert opinion needed please :-) 30 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have thought about temporarily bypassing the priming pump but it's not easy to do as they use stupid plastic female fittings to go onto the male spigots on the pump. It would also mean bypassing the fuel filter for a while, but I thought it worth it to see if the bubbles disappeared ? Is it possible that the cold weather has shrunk/damaged the pump internals I(feels like a diaphragm type pump) and that could be causing the problem air leak and starting ?
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Farewell Mondeo - Great used car. 16 Jan 2010 (Forum)
It's been a bit of a time out from my usual Citroen diesels but what an excellent used car for anyone in the £1k - £7k range. The only real motivation for selling it were the fuel bills at 30mpg average. A smaller factor was the over sharp ride on its 17" alloys with 50 profile tyres. Apart from that it has been pretty well all good. Good refinement, comfortable seats (elec leather) with loads of space in the rear too.
  • Hire car charges & refunds 6 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Auto Europe have always arranged my car via Murrays/Sixt when I've been in Eire, however, on this occasion, it was Budget and with them I was charged a fuelling fee which would be refunded if I returned the car full of fuel, (as collected). Now I normally make all my "foreign" currency transactions in the local currency with a credit card that does not charge an exchange commission, but I forgot to check this when I collected the car and ended-up paying the Euro deposit in UK Sterling.
  • Mr Average or in minority? 2 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Used to do this very regularly as I find it very therapeutic, but just don't seem to have the inclination this last couple of "summers" I fill up with supermarket fuel and have never felt that I have missed out on the benefits of the extra 30p a gallon for the super duper version. I don't have snow tyres or 4x4 and I haven't got stuck once this year in this current weather - remember its abnormal, not normal this weather.
  • Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 04 1.4 Engine losing power 21 Dec 2009 (Forum)
It's not in any particular gear, or low revs, it's not when the engine is cold (the last incident was after 15mins at 70 on dual carriageway followed by 1/2 hr cross country!!) its not when the fuel is low, I've done all the basic maintainance and had the antifreeze replaced and before I take it back for peugeot to bleed me dry I wondered if anyone had any ideas I could try, or had experienced and sorted similar?!!
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 Cutting out at speed - loss of power 24 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I drove 60 miles the other day at appox 30 to 50mph range and had no problems at all The garage checked the injectors which they say are ok. They also took out the fuel filter and they say that it is also ok. They were at a loss as to what to do next so based on the forums i suggested that they change the crank shaft sensor. The cam sensor was changed about 6 months ago.
  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - 09 2.2TDCi engine problems 23 Oct 2009 (Forum)
On the second visit, they told me the fan noise after switch off was the EGR valve, but couldn't explain the smoke. Have recently put a full tank of Shell V-Power into it, should it be a supermarket fuel issue with the EGR. As this engine isn't just limited to Mondeos, has anyone got any ideas on what to do next? Many thanks!

  • Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 99 2.0 My Pug Runs like a Burst couch! 16 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Had the machine on it and it gave out quite a few fault codes P0121,P0221(mechanic said not to worry bout these as they are not the issue) P1138 fuel pressure regulater-P0401 Egr Valve circuit-P0335 rpm sensor-P0571 Brake switch circuit-and P1537 UNDOCUMENTED CODE...... the mechanic advised that the undocumented code or the Egr valve circuit would prob be the problem.....I have checked all the hoses going to the turbo (as i was told to do) for cracks...they look ok!
  • Lizard on a hot rock - heaters good and bad 2 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The worst I actually remember was the Maestro Clubman D - shivering wearing a coat while ticking over and trapped in a snowfall for 7 hours around 1995. You could say `well it was direct injection and burning little fuel` but so is the van with the Multijet. That remains as hot at tickover. Good old Rover - I remember the 1.6 petrol auto, owned prior to it being just the same. I can remember when heaters were optional and teachers coming to school in them in the winter of 62.
  • Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 2000 2.5 immobiliser problems 23 Sep 2009 (Forum)
4/ Taken to crysler today and ecu had stored code of fault on transponder but they say transponder checked out ok and can not do anything untill code is active- got new key and fob on order as they suggested this may be the problem as we only have one set and key is worn(so need a spare anyway £200) they also say that should think about replacing the screem module if still not fixed with new key ? 5/ Once happened at fuel station but got it going after dissconecting battery for a good 2 hours ? 6/ Can anyone explain to me how to check the heater wires as discussed in forum ?how do I get the unit out ?from inside the car ?
  • Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 02 2.0 Engine Cuts Out 13 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I took it out last night and it happened twice so I MoT style max revved it and it travelled for about 6 miles with no trouble. This morning I cleaned the air filter and drained the fuel filter. I then revved it again and took it out. It went for about three miles before cutting out. I then came home with it cutting out anything between 100m and then a full two miles home. Sometimes the anti pollution fault comes on and sometimes it doesn't.
  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 2005 1.6 coolant fan & FAP issues 13 May 2009 (Forum)
It doesn't seem to corespond to any particular temp on the guage (that never reaches above 80... so far). my 307 was serviced by a Pug main dealer at 52k (no details), before i purchased it from a local independant (low knowledge/interest) dealer @ 61k (now @ 62.5k). fuel ecomony is currently avg 55mpg for a variety of use, according to the computer. unless i get any warnings, it sounds like it will need a new/recon filter @ £72k and re-fill? ... am i reading that correctly... or is the fan issue likely to be another unofficial warning ref that 'wonderful' main dealer profit generating FAP system?
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 2.0 Worn diesel injectors?? 30 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Took it back to garage as I thought that maybe they had replaced the timing belt wrong. After 3 days and they told me that possibly the diesel injectors were on there way out or the fuel pump. They had attached it to a Peugeot diagnostics kit (borrowed as not a main dealer) and that showed high fluctuations in revs over 2000rpm. To fix would cost the best part of £1000 and wouldn't be worth it, however I don't have any of the other symptoms of diesel injector failure ie black smoke, problems starting.
  • Skoda Octavia 1.8T 4X4 again 6 Apr 2009 (Forum)
A rapid pootle back down the A12 again in my friend's very nice Octavia, now coming up to 50,000 miles and still feeling hewn from the solid. Most of its life is spent pootling in South London. I don't know how much fuel it uses but that low-pressure, modest-output petrol turbo while not quite a gem is a very nice unit indeed. Perhaps it would feel more of a gem when one got used to the location of its high torque band which seems quite narrow for a turbo engine.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 (8valve) service Questions 31 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I have rang my trusted local independent and have asked for the following Service (Plugs, Filters (Air, Oil, Pollen and Fuel)), Fresh Oil) Cambelt Change, Inc Water pump and associated pulley wheels. Thermostat change (while they have the belt off). They have quoted me ?around £500? I rang my Local Vauxhall dealer, and they said that it dosent need any of the above, only a oil and filter change, and that would be IIRC £180.
  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 1998 1.5 diesel cam belt change 5 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Having purchased the car this week and found that its actually a reasonable drive whilst being ultra conservative on the fuel I thought it may actually be a long term investment? I would really love to have a crack at the belt and wondered if any tech?s out there have a step-by-step guide that was more fail safe than the Haynes manual that seems to muddle the 1.4 and 1.5 engines?
  • Should I opt out of Co. car? What car to get? 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
t paid for years but I?ve budgeted £75/month) Are there any expenses I?m missing out on? I?d get a slightly better fuel rate from my company so that?s an upside as well. Any other considerations I need to make, please advise. I would run the car for 4 years (cars cannot be over 5 years old to qualify for a car allowance) so it would have circa 180-200k on clock.
