  • Ford Fiesta - First car confusion! (V5C question,cat d question) 10 Jul 2012 (Forum)
However, my boyfriend reckons bad wheel alignment could be a symptom of something bad relating to the reason it's cat D - so should I stay clear? Another thing that raised alarms was that the V5C was not in the dealer's name but some woman's name and address. There was also a bit missing - the top part of the third page, if that helps? I can't find out if this is bad or not though! Everywhere seems intent on telling me what isn't normal, and I get that this would be bad if it were a private seller, but is it just because he is a trader and actually fine?
  • re-registering, MOT & tax 10 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The car was owned from new by a leasing company, and was then bought at auction by my trade seller. The only problem(s) are... - I was given the V5C when I bought the car, but the trade seller didn't sign it. We were rushed in completing so I'm wondering if this just got forgotten. - I notice on the V5C the ownership hasn't changed from the leasing company to the trade seller.
  • Skoda Yeti - New car: third keeper 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I received delivery of a new Skoda Yeti from an approved dealer in October 2010. Numerous enquiries about the V5C's whereabouts led to my finally receiving it 4 months later. It was then that I discovered that I am the third keeper. The dealer has been less than helpful until now but have now asked that I sign the V5C and send it to them so that they can sort it out with the DVLA.
  • V5C - Dealer's name on green slip! 18 Sep 2013 (Forum)
What I didn't realise was that he'd filled his own details out on the green slip and not mine, presumably to tax it.  My fault for not checking I know.  The problem is that I am still waiting for the new V5C to arrive, and he is still waiting for his money for the tax (which I won't pay until I have the documents for my car!).  What can I do about this as technically, the car is in his name!!  I have a receipt, with the registration of the car on it, to prove I have paid for it (it says paid in full) but I can't send off the green slip as it's not in my name!
  • V5C lost in post -- advice please 11 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I sold a car on ebay on July 20th. I sent the V5C to the DVLA, but it would appear that they did not receive it. I have received a tax reminder for the vehicle. Unfortunately, the buyer turned up and took the car away that day. I am now in a position where I have absolutely no idea who the new owner is, because (naively) I did not make a copy of the document before sending it.
  • Ford Mondeo - Car insurance claim - legal advice 17 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I have recently moved to a new house and hence wanted to change my address on V5c document before filing the claim. I realised the V5c document in not on my name and on my husband’s name instead. Even though my husband is a named driver on the car’s insurance policy, the proposal document for the insurance policy lists ‘Proposer’ as the ‘Vehicle Registered to’ section.
  • please HELP!!! Registering new car paperwork.... 20 Mar 2008 (Forum)
So...DVLA on phone said to register, I must go directly to my local DVLA office (Sidcup), and take with me these things; V62 V10 V5C/2 Insurance Cert. MOT Ok, now I read the V62...and I gather I will not need this as I have (and written my details) the V5C/2 -New Keepers Supplement. Or am I wrong, and will I need to fill in a V62 and a V10?
  • DVLA - car tax reminder oddity 3 May 2006 (Forum)
So the correct process now is to take the documents and money to the local post office, renew from 1 May, and send the back tax to the local DVLA office. Apparently no DVLA forms are needed. The V5 will then be retained for replacement with a V5C.
  • Jaguar - One previous owner 15 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Can't agree with HJ. If an advert says "One previous owner" I would expect to see only one previous owner on the V5C, not two.
  • Insurance Companies - Now checking documents 13 Feb 2015 (Forum)
A word of gentle advice. At renewal was asked for copy of our licences   v5c log book and written proof of ncd.  Policy not validated till this was done.
  • DVLA - new rapid response team? 3 Jul 2007 (Forum)
My new car was registered on 28 June 2007. My V5c arrived 2 July and the PO were on strike for one day - is this a record?
  • mot test station location 14 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I see that the Mot test station location is available again ,but only if you have the V5C document number. https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history
  • Used car: No V5c Registration 22 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I went through all the paperwork, in his house and noted the FSH, spare keys and MOT certs, which were all in place - apart, that is - from the v5c registration document. The dealer has the green slip marked cherished number plate and explained the full story about the change of plates with the old owner. This dealer acquired the car from a main dealer, as a trade in, and has been taxed with the new number plate etc, but with the V5 most likely sitting on the doorstep of the old owners house, whom I have been informed, has now moved.
  • Flipping Cars: A newbie looking for advice 10 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I have come across a theoretical problem which I thought I would put out here. -When purchasing my car I received the green slip from the V5C as proof of ownership but the V5C itself did not arrive for around 2 weeks. This is problematic as I would ideally have turned the car around in this time (MOT, repairs, valet, listed, sold; ideally).
  • Insurance write off, query about keeping the car 4 Oct 2014 (Forum)
With the V5c I'm told they have to enter cat:D on it. Is that there job to write in things on a government document? I thought DVLA did all that after being notified.
  • New VED rules & part-time trading 30 Sep 2014 (Forum)
As a part time trader, I will now need to register vehicles in my name, presumably using the V5C/2 details, in order to tax them, when I need to keep them on the road. If I sell that car quickly, would the new owner be able to use the same V5C/2 to re-register & tax it in his name, or do I need to wait for new documents to arrive before selling it?
  • Buy car and export it straight away? 13 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Hi, Im going to buy a car and wanna  export to  abroad. Need to undestand few thing on V5C( logbook). Q1. If I buy a car from a private seller to export it then Do I have to take the car on my name first or not?. In this case obviously I have to wait my new logbook from DVLA upto 4 weeks.
  • Honda CBR 600 RR - V5C/2 reference number not recognised 1 Aug 2018 (Forum)
After 2 or 3 days I did check on line the mot history and road tax and the DVLA system now recognise the motorcycle's plate (CK03...) with the same mot history. So I tried to tax it but the DVLA do not recognise the reference number on V5C/2 because this is the old V5 part with WW02 plates. When someone request the plate changes the DVLA send a new V5 with the correct plate ck53 so my v5c/2 is not long valid. I did check my bank accound and I realised the payment was made to another person. maybe her ex partner maybe not.
  • DVLA - Getting a new logbook 1 Oct 2020 (Forum)
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/cars/article-8789255/How-new-car-log-book-V5C-online-five-days.html I know that it's from the Mail, but  it'll help. I have just received a letter that was posted 26 days ago... so 5 days is not bad.
