V5C lost in post -- advice please - primeradriver

I sold a car on ebay on July 20th. I sent the V5C to the DVLA, but it would appear that they did not receive it. I have received a tax reminder for the vehicle.

Unfortunately, the buyer turned up and took the car away that day. I am now in a position where I have absolutely no idea who the new owner is, because (naively) I did not make a copy of the document before sending it. Ebay are unwilling to divulge the details of the new owner as I am only able to send an invoice in the first 30 days (which would have the new owner's address on it).

I have contacted the DVLA and they just advised me to send a letter, which I will be sending tomorrow morning by registered delivery. The man on the phone did not seem to think it was a problem, but after reading some of the horror stories about the DVLA all over the internet I am not so sure.

I have drafted a letter detailing the V5C document reference (which I do still have), the make, model, reg number and engine CC of the vehicle, along with the little information I have on the transaction (ebay auction reference, ebay buyer, buyer's ebay-registered phone number acquired through ebay's information request service and given name) with a formal request to take my name and address off this car's record. This is clearly not sufficient with reference to their requirement of a full name and address.

The new owner acknowledged me when I sent him a message but so far has not responded to my request for his details.

I realise that in part this is my own fault for not keeping the details of the new owner on-file, but the questions that springs to mind are; (1) do I really have much to worry about in this instance, and (2) is there *anything* that can be done, over and above what I have already done to remedy the situation?

Hello primeradriver ,you rang the DVLA and explained the situation i can't see what else you can do as stated in your letter.Maybe in future when sending documents to the DVLA send it registered so they have to sign and you have some proof from the postoffice just a thought.
