• Ford Focus - Cheap second car (used just for a work commute) 5 Nov 2012 (Forum)
    Any advice on something not too small (wouldn't feel safe on the motorway everyday in a diddy little thing) that's decent on fuel (specifically taking into account that sort of run) and reasonably reliable? Thinking of an '03 Focus (mainly because there's so many of them under the £1500 mark) but have never had one, any pitfalls I should look for on them?  Or any advice on something better?

  It sounded rough, smoked more for the first 10secs or so but otherwise ran well and started OK in warmer temps.Car has just passed MOT and runs well with good mpg. The problem has returned with the colder weather. Some forums talk about temp sensors on the radiator? I am reluctant to take it to VW as they will no doubt start by replacing high value items first.

  HELP PLEASE i am new to this but need some help. i have a bmw 320 diesel 1999 that wont start. i was driving and the engine cut out as if no fuel. mechanic found no fuel going to injecters so replaced the fuel pump as pressure was very low in pump. it now has fuel to engine but still wont start, tried a new crank senser today but still no good, turns over wont start. diagnostics wont pick anything up as computer thingy wont work. previous to this i had a problem with it losing power on a longer run as if it was gonna stall then blow blueish smoke out and off it went again. it has had a new air and fuel filter thans for reading please help.:

  Hi, had a slight misfire on my BMW, felt like a fuel problem that has got worse, it now had a blank spot when accelerating from 500-1000rpm seems okay over this with no back fire, I have replaced all filters plugs, leads, dist, ECU, cam sensor, and injectors and have checked the fuel pump, it now has no power under pressure, okish on the flat and down hill but struggles up hill, i have noticed that 1 and 4 plugs run dry and 2 and 3 are wet/normal could the 02 sensor and cat converter be the problem? I have no check engine code light on this model, Thanks
• Ford Mondeo - Replacing car antenna with DAB/FM one 8 Sep 2012 (Forum)
  I'm not sure the wiring to the antenna is right anyway -- this car is ex-police and I think they've messed around with all that stuff. So, I was thinking of buying a DAB/FM antenna and run the two sets of cables down to the head unit. Are the mounting holes standard, or will I need some kind of bracket for this? Or would it just be easier to pay the man to do the job properly?

  Currently enjoying a '99 T reg 3.0 V6 Accord Coupe, which is fab and very reliable, but I am tempted by pointy squirty 20VT fun again. Question is are they money pits after 10yrs? Anyone got any experience of running an older 20VT up and beyond 100k miles? Do the oily bits last (I accept the cabin will rattle!) Thanks

  Reason I ask is I have grown used to the pulling power of the corsa(1.7cdti) and looking to get something with as good a pull but in all likelihood not a diesel this time as running costs(repairs/tyres mainly) not been as good as I had hoped! Tempted by a Seat 1.2 TSi but probably pushing my budget which would be around £8k or 10k if good part exchange! Don't need a family car as such but am 6ft so no C1s etc Any help gratefully received.

  I bought a 2007 combo with 25k around 6 months ago have had it serviced and has run like a dream until yesterday, the revs shot up and smoke was pouring out the exhaust i pulled over and removed the ignition key but the engine carried on revving like crazy with loads of smoke for around 2 minutes and then stopped.
• Focus 2008 diesel - Focus 1.6 diesel oil filter 20 Jul 2012 (Forum)
  If the centre one of these two delivers the filtered oil to the engine what does the smaller one do ( which is effectively blocked by the filter element O ring as mentioned). The engine runs OK and no low pressure warning. Just can't figure it out ?? Any expaination would be appreciated.Ta

  For the third time now, she or her husband has been driving when the display (speedo, fuel gauge, date etc) goes out.(Time display stays on)It hasn't stopped the engine running, but once the car was stopped, left for a few minutes, and restarted, it displays a few warning lights and then it all settles down. She was advised to take it to a Citroen dealer who would look at it.

  However, similar things have happened 4 times in the last 3 months, twice it has restarted immediately on the key but on the other occasions I've had to wait be for up to an hour. When it does start it runs perfectly. I've had it serviced and a fault code check has shown nothing. Any ideas anyone?

  hi has anyone found a good solution for 340 code. ive changed camshaft sensor for a used 1, changed air intake valve air mass sensor spark plugs and oil and still the problem persists. when you start the car from cold it runs ok until idle settles down and then the engine revs dip but does not stall even though it sounds like it might conk out.  When the revs dip the spanner light comes on. turn car off and start and light is off until the engine dips when driving the car becomes jerky.

  A week on and the problem is back ,again one plug has no glow.I haven't replaced it yet but before i purchase a new set  am i missing something here. Why would a glow plug cause this problem of moving off when the engine is running ok. I believe that this model has no ECU fitted . If it had an EGR fitted would this cause the problem. Appreciate any comment.

  i've read several previous threads on this and other forums, now i'm more confused. i've no poor running or noise symptoms, avg mpg is 45-50 (mixed use), used to be a bit higher (50-55), but i dont watch it too closely. current mileage only 40k. the engine warning light came on at the weekend after i got home from a 50 mile motorway journey. local garage says the EGR value needs replacing.

  Hi  I recently got around to trying to start my 2002 adventurer, it  has been stood a while, when it eventually started it coughed and spluttered and would not run right.  Blocked carbs yes. well my mate and I set about stripping them and as expected found the jets etc clogged up with what I can only describe as varnish, the petrol tap was also blocked. we cleaned everything thouroughly and reassembled.

  Hi all, I've bought a second hand Focus that squeals on start-up; it's only for a couple of seconds and then the car is silent and normal (and if you re-start whilst it's warm it won't make any noise) - the garage I bought it from suggests that once it's had a good run it should stop doing this; but I just wanted to double check that this is probably the case - it passed it's MOT before the sale so all should be fine, in theory?  I have 12 months warranty on the car, so can easily take it back and demand that they fix this - but currently it's just a minor irritant, and thought I'd check and see if it could be hiding anything more sinister.
• citreon xantia hdi, 2000 - citreon xantia suspension help 5 Apr 2012 (Forum)
  Im currently running about in a 2000 Citreon Xantia HDI, it has the standard suspension set up as its only the Forte model, not hydractive. The suspension all works in the sense it rises and falls, isnt harsh, doesnt leak etc and the spheres were changed not long before I got the car.
