  • Honda Jazz vs Toyota Prius 27 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I know that the Prius will cost about 2.5-3k more but it will hopefully be offset over the years with lower fuel costs and road tax. I am thinking about owning the car for ten years becasue this is how long my last used car (VW Polo) lived. My preference is the Prius. My concern here is the Prius battery.
  • VW Golf 1.6 tdi bluemotion December 2014 - Idling Speed/MPG 6 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Obviously at this speed the engine stop start will not kick in and therefore I assume that I am wasting fuel. This also occurs after long journey's, for instance I drove from Manchester to Accrington this morning and upon arrival and as usual the engine when stationary was at 1100 rpm. I have had it into the VW dealer in Stockport who tell me that there is nothing wrong with it as if there was this would show up on the diagnostic test that they do.
  • Ford Focus Mk2 1.6 (115) - Focus going into Limp Mode 22 Jan 2015 (Forum)
The other point to add is once the car is warmed up it runs fine, I've just taken it for a 15 mile drive, really gave it some stick, no problems.  Could it be fuel related?  It has only started happening since I filled up at a supermarket station from empty.
  • Ford Focus 1.8TDCi - Diesel lack of power and juddering 25 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I have been in-touch with the Ford dealer I purchased the car from as I suspected it would be a turbo related issue, but they are suggesting it is the fuel filter at a cost of £135.00 to change. I am not able to undertake this work myself and I am keen to establish if my problems would suggest the filter is the cause.
  • Renault Grand Scenic 6 years old, 60000miles - Renault Scenic loss of power/handbrake fault 30 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Wouldn't restart on the roadside but once taken to the garage it was working again and they couldn't recreate the fault.  No diagnostic issues so they assumed something to do with the fuel pump and cleaned all the connections (chose not to replace as they weren't 100% certain).   Yesterday, after driving for an hour, I stopped at a services and after about 30 mins with the radion on & engine off the car wouldn't start.
  • Vauxhall - Vivaro 02 1.9 100ps ECU light speedo problems 12 Jul 2014 (Forum)
the van seems to be hesitating especially in low gears, then has a slow pick up eg:the symptom is as if a car has too much fuel going through?sometimes it will drive ok,but it is dangerous as going onto roundabouts, the van just has not got any pulling power. also the speedo has stopped working, and as soon as i hit approx 50mph the engine management light appears and stays lit until i switch off the engine and restart and it disapears?
  • Rover 25 1.6 2003 lpg - Lpg vs petrol consumption help 24 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Ignoring the cost of petrol and LPG , does this sound right and how does it compare to a deisel car in terms of fuel efficiency? Price of petrol is approx £1.28 Lpg price is £0.6 from local lpg station which is cheaper than big stations. Deisel approx 1.35 Thanks
  • Ford Mondeo 1.6 tdci 115 stop start econetic - had car 15days. can I complain about expected mpg 20 Feb 2014 (Forum)
It was the main dealer's managers car before me, with 7k miles on it. Today I zero'd the on board fuel calculator 0.5 miles before getting on the motorway for a steady 75 mile journey. I was aware all the time of economy as this was a trial.  I returned 54 mpg !  About 2 mpg better.  My urban suggested should now be 56.5, extra urban 72.4, combined 65.7mpg To me there has been a false representation as the salesman was aware of why I was looking to change.
  • Petrol or Diesel for long term ownership 14 Feb 2014 (Forum)
This is scary right enough, but the savings per year say for a C4Grand Picasso 1.6 diesel versus 1.6 petrol are about £419. Over ten years that's £4200 assuming a stable tax regime and fuel price ratio. Given that the massive diesel bug out mught not happen, isn't that a risk worth taking?
  • Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 DTi 05 plate - Programming of new ECU codes - neccessary? 30 Jan 2014 (Forum)
My local garage have run the diagnostics and liaised with Vauxhall, and have said it needs a new steering rack and a new fuel pump. Our local garage (who we know and trust) have said the cost of the parts would be around £500 and labour £250, however because it would need re-programming of the new control module (?)
  • Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe - 2010 (60) - Advice on Engine Size & MOT advisories 20 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Can anyone with experience please advise regarding the options - e.g. difference and recommednations between 220 and 250, obviously the 350 would be better, but that bit of extra performance for the money and reduced fuel econmoy is not worth it for me.   Also I asked re advisories on the MOT and was advised the following: There are 3 advisories on the mot expiring 7 th dec14 Both front wheel bearings slight play and a tyre Tyres we would have done here and the bearings we would look at for you and replace if required   Is this something that is a big deal?
  • Ford Focus Saloon 1.8 TDCI 2003. - diesel pump and injector nightmare! 27 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I had a major breakdown a few months ago car lost power and died. The problem was traced to the fuel pump, at which the insides decided to go through the fueltank and injectors. Anyway i have had the pump replaced, and got 2nd hand injectors which the salvage yard gave me two weeks to have them fitted to see if they were ok.
  • Kia Sorento 2.5 diesel auto "06" plate - KIA Sorento intercooler 10 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Black smoke with lack of power......Have found the air filter is blocked (although only changed 4 months ago. Have replaced with new and also done a fuel filter change for good measure. This seems to be the original one from new which was meant to get changed during a service 4 months ago! There is an oil leak beneath the front of the car which has turned out to be the intercooler.
  • Ford Focus TDCi 1.6 (2006 - Juddering and engine system fault indication 7 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I was wondering if anyone has any previous experience of this? Could it be the clutch is on the way out? Something to do with the turbo? Fuel filter?

  • Ford Focus - Unhappy with work Carried out by Garage 18 Oct 2013 (Forum)
They replaced the EGR and carried out a forced regen of the dpf, they handed the car back to me and it was smoking excessively. I was told that the excessive smoke was down to excess DPF fluid in the fuel and that it would calm down. I drove the car for no more than 5 miles in total before I decided that enough was enough. I checked the oil and there was about 2mm of oil left in the car. I know that they carried out a road test before returning the car and must have been aware of the extent of the problem, they claim that the oil loss could have happened after I left the garage, I dispute this.
  • 2005 Picasso Hdi 50k miles - Citroen Picasso engine management light 26 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I'd have got it one for a day and light would have came on again, but they said the diagnostic machine always through up a different fault, Fuel pressure sensor has also been replaced, Engine management light came on again and it was decided to replace the ECU ... All sensors, tests and ECU has cost over £1000! Diving the car home tonight and low and behold the engine management light has came on again!!
  • Ford Transit 2.5 Diesel - Has my transit lost its memory 19 Jul 2013 (Forum)
My 1996 2.5 diesel transit won’t start after removing the battery 6 months ago and putting the van in storage, I have checked all the obvious things battery fuses etc, but the problem persists, I suspect it is something to do with the ford pats immobilizer as I get nothing other than a click from the ignition relay when I turn the key, and the warning light comes on the dashboard, there are no other noises, and I can’t hear the fuel pump whirring like it usually does, is it possible for the immobilizer to lose the code from its memory due to the battery being removed for a long time I have tried starting it with the red master key but it’s still the same.
  • Ford Grand C-MAX - 1.6TDCi Loss of power, no fault codes. 12 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I also let the turbo cool down properly after long trips. The car's not used a drop of oil, and I've only ever fueled it with premium diesel too. It has been running a little rougher and noisier than normal over the last few months, but nothing severe enough to say it's running badly. Any ideas what could be wrong?
