Renault Grand Scenic 6 years old, 60000miles - Renault Scenic loss of power/handbrake fault - LukeM

Been having a few issues with my Renault recently. About a month ago the car cut out on my commute to work. Wouldn't restart on the roadside but once taken to the garage it was working again and they couldn't recreate the fault. No diagnostic issues so they assumed something to do with the fuel pump and cleaned all the connections (chose not to replace as they weren't 100% certain).

Yesterday, after driving for an hour, I stopped at a services and after about 30 mins with the radion on & engine off the car wouldn't start. Error message on dashboard was handbrake fault. The car was ticking over in a similar fashion to the previous time but nothing worked. This time however I was able to jump start the car OK and the error message went away. The only issue I've noticed on the rest of the drive was that my driver side windo would only move in small movements and wouldn;t shut automatically when the car was locked.

the AA checked the alternator, which was fine, and just suggested I get a new battery which I will do today.

Any thoughts on if this sounds like a battery issue or something more serious?.

Is the car a petrol or diesel? Does it cut out while you're actually driving, ie at 50mph? You say it ticks over. By that do you mean cranks over? If so the fault is not likely to be the battery. You need to be a bit sharper with the fault description if you're going to expect anyone to find the answer.

Renaults are generally not reliable cars. Especially models such as yours. Plenty of people own them and end up throwing money at them. Those of us who have spent all our working lives in the motor trade have seen too many faults on them to think any different. The best advice I could give is take it to a Renault specialist. Someone who knows these inside out. When it's fixed consider part exchanging it for something else.

Its a petrol car and cut out when driving at about 30mph.

On both occasions above when the car wouldn't start the engine was just making a ticking noise when the start button was pressed.

The fact that you had a non start condition and loss of window memory tends to suggest a very strong possibilty that the battery is past its time.Could be the original .Get it tested and replaced.

A ticking noise could be the starter solenoid engaging and disengaging due to a flat battery. You said the AA attended you though, and this should've been easy to diagnose. I used to be an AA Patrol and have attended hundreds of battery faults.
