  • Accord Electrical Problem Rectified 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
(I mentioned it here and it was moved to the technical forum where it met with a nil response.) Briefly, the fuse that protects the horn and brake lights has blown twenty-three times. It first started in May last year, when the car was less than three months old, and has been back to the dealer twice and on the back of a lorry to the Honda agent in Brive, France.
  • Is it worth buying?? 24 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Exterior is really covered in moss etc but appears to just need a good clean. I reckon I'm going to need new tyres, belts, suspension bushes, oil, filter, plugs, battery brakes, gearbox oil, maybe a new cat and whatever else!!! Probably about £300 - £500 on parts before any labour. Even at that I don't know if the engine is knackered let alone the gearbox! Anyone know what it's worth.
  • Picasso HDI Clutch Slip 20 Dec 2004 (Forum)
It is particularly bad when the engine is cold and you accelerate up a hill or from low rpm in high gear. Once the engine is warmed up it all but disappears. I've tried holding my left foot on the brake whilst accelerating and can't get the clutch to slip once the engine has been warm for a while. Evry now and again it will slip when warm but not often. The pic is 53 reg HDI and has covered 40,000 motorway miles (no I don't rest my foot on the clutch).
  • Balloon in car 6 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I set off, at which point the weirdness started. I accelerated out of the car park and the balloons swept forwards. I hit the brakes, and they went backwards. Round the right hand bend of roundabouts, they crushed themselves over to the right of the car and on left hand bends, they went the other way. All the way home I was fascinated by the apparent reverse inertia.
  • Discovery with front wheel shake at spee 29 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My L-reg Discovery sometimes starts to violently shake at the front, with a lot of loud rattling from under the front passenger side, usually between 50 - 65 mph. The steering wheel ossillates so much it is hardly steerable, I have stopped it by braking to 30-40mph, & by speeding up sometimes as well. It lately does it on long, slight right-hand bends, but at one time was set off by going over a motorway type flat bridge. Last year it took three visits to the garage to stop it - though they didn't know why it had stopped precisely!
  • Rough justice 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Anyway, about half an a hour ago 3-4 idiots tried it again and one of them missed DEATH very narrowly indeed. A guy driving a brand new Elise along the main road was forced to slam his brakes on to avoid one of these "Deathwish" kids. Quite understandably, he jumped out of the car and exchanged a few choice adjectives with the stupid boy but then jumped into his car, slammed the door in frustration and smashed the side window in the process!!
  • Time to sell - but how much? 31 May 2004 (Forum)
MOT is due July but I will be putting 12 months on before sale. Taxed until Feb 05. Car has also recently been serviced and fitted with new front brake disks and pads. Parkers suggests £5090 for 'Private Good' at 40000 miles so I'm guessing around the £4650 ono mark taking the miles into account, with room to drop a couple of hundred. I've seen similar cars in dealers for £6000 recently which makes me think I'm being more than fair.
  • avensis vibration on acceleration 12 May 2004 (Forum)
It's still under warranty so no worries about getting it fixed. Took it to main dealer who balanced the wheels and checked the brakes - made no difference. My theory - and I'm not a mechanic - is that one of the driveshafts is a bit sticky. The frequency of the vibration seems to increase with road speed (judders faster as you drive faster).
  • hyundai accent acceleration 7 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Im reluctant to take ito the the hyundai dealer as they have a habit in this area of ripping people off. Also, anybody know if fitting brakes the the accent is easy? ive done them before to an old rover 213, but was wondering if the accent is straight forward. Dont forget my model ,is the old facelift (eg, not the old chassis body nor the current car on sale.)
  • Classic bad driving 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Lorry 1 decides to oevrtake lorry 2 , comes out without signal into path of CRV, gap between them is now about 20 yards at 60-70 mph .CRV hasn\'t anticipated this move, is spooked by lorry 1\'s move , so goes to lane 3, without signal . In lane 3 is a very fast-moving BMW which manages to brake in time . Lorry 2 turns off at the exit, not having signalled in advance , so lorry 1\'s manoeouvre unnecessary - he reverts to lane 1 . CRV goes back to lane 2. I doubt any of them had any idea of the danger they , and other road-users had been exposed to .
  • 205 starter motor 26 Feb 2004 (Forum)
At the same time the radio went dead and the digital clock went back to 1 o clock. The clicking and non operative starter happened twice, then I let the hand brake off and rolled forward a couple of feet (dont know why I thought that might help!, but anyway) then on the third try the starter worked absolutely normally - not slow cranking - normal speed. The car started this morning and then again this evening totally normally.
  • Peu406 discs & pads 15 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I have a Peugeot 406 2.0 hdi estate y reg 24000 miles and have had it for just under a year and have done about 12000 miles.I replaced the discs and pads around 15000 miles because the car was juddering when braking, and this solved the problem. However the same thing started happening about a month ago and the main dealer has told me that they need replacing again.A good mechanic friend has told me that both the discs and pads are fine,(the pads only about 50% worn and not 80-90% as the dealer told me.)He has replaced the pads and has only partially solved the problem,he maintains that the discs are perfect, so i am at a loss as to what else it could be.
  • Engine Management Light on Corsa \'99 25 Sep 2003 (Forum)
THe engine Management Light on my V reg Corsa comes on intermittently all the time. Doesnt matter what speed I do, whether I\'m braking, etc. I\'ve taken the car 3 times to a PLP Vauxhall garage and had it put on the computer, each time have been told that no fault was found except maybe due to over using the cigarette lighter (?).
  • Different viewpoint on mobile phones 21 Sep 2003 (Forum)
So I am doing 50mph in nose to tail traffic, the guy behind me is driving without a single hand on the wheel! I flick my sidelights on and the guy obviously sees these at the last minute thinking I have braked. He is totally lost in his conversation, the phone is thrown to the floor, his car swerves into the inside lane and he then gives me the finger and a bawling! I now advocate a ban on phones!
  • Peugeot 206 problems... 10 Aug 2003 (Forum)
However, after 200 miles there is a grinding niose from the left wheel (I took the car back to the dealer for them to change the discs and brakes, after about 30 mins. arguing, they were going to charge me £250). That's the first problem what the hell is that noise...Secondly the Peugeot dealer promised to send me the log book and spare key after 1 week the log book has not arrived and they just blow me off..
  • Intermittent ABS fault 26 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The ABS warning lamp illuminates after driving for 40 minutes for no apparent reason and at the same time the ABS pump starts running. This seems to happen when the brakes are not being operated. Turning the ignition off and waiting a few minutes (the longer the better) and then back on will sometimes reset the unit and turn the pump and light off.The fault returns within 5 minutes.
  • Alfa Romeo 156 4 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Roughly translated that means I will not hear from him again. The problem is quite dangerous as steering and brakes are lost even if speed is low. It only occurs about once per month probably because the car only covers about 4,500 miles per year. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thomas Edwards
  • Help- accident last night. 18 Feb 2003 (Forum)
If i can get the bits off, i should have some mk.2 goodies for sale at very reasonable prices. Good suspension brakes and a few other bits. So drop me an e-mail if interested. Ben Chapman.
  • 3 into 2 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Either someone will not leave a gap for a car to slot into, or an opportunist cannot resist overtaking a few more cars and the merging point gets nearer and nearer to the cones. Now I have always thought that the jam is caused by cars in the closed off lane having to brake to a standstill(for the reasons above) when they reach the cones. This causing the lane next to them to stop and let them in with the knock-on effect going back miles. A pal saw a programme on TV about this and feels my theory is too simplistic.
  • VW electric windows 24 Dec 2002 (Forum)
    (1) will someone tell me its a known problem and is solved by replacing fuse 3 with a champion NG9Y or adding redex to the washer bottle, because I really don't want to get into taking the door trim off. I'll do brakes, clutched, engines, but trim just intimidates me. i just have to look at a trim clip and it breaks apart, everything bends, and the final result looks like it was reassembled by a visually impaired drunkard Failing (1) above, can anybody give me any clues for getting the door trim off the Bora ?
