Citroen Xantia Activa Turbo 2 litre 1998 - Xantia Perplexia 23 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Reversing up my drive, which has a 20 degree incline, she cut out. Thinking I was too low on fuel, I put 5 litres in to show quarter full, but she has not started since and the battery died from trying. I have put a new battery in, and now she wont even turnover. Just goes clunck when I turn the ignition key, and all dash lights go out. -
Ford Galaxy - no spare wheel 7 Apr 2010 (Forum)
How long is it before someone is killed for this penny pinching By all means have a spare as an extra but design your cars with space for a spare And Fords pathetic excuse it is government policy to save fuel so cars need to be lighter all I can say is b******ks I will never buy a Ford or any other vehicle without a spare ever again -
BMW 5-Series E39 530d - BMW e39 3.0d Cold Start 21 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I've been having some problems with my 530d, intermittently not starting. All fuel pumps checked OK and 1 diesel injector replaced, rest all ok. That has improved things but still having problems start of day when very cold, so now figure that some of the existing problem might be glow plugs. -
I would like to invent.... 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
It would be pulled across the windscreen and clipped on to the opposite A pillar thus preventing the formation of frost on the glass. (Side versions could be fitted to Ghias etc. ) I'd also like to invent a fuel filler for both sides of the car. I know you can stretch the hose across but it's so undignified. I would like to dis-invent automatic wipers which are stupid and never quite do what you would have chosen yourself. -
Rover 75 2.0 CDT servicing 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I've now done close to 24,000 miles and according to the service interval display ( which also takes driving style i.e. fuel consumption into account) it's soon due for an 'inspection'. This is more or less in line with the handbook which, If I read the correctly, specifies oil changes every 30,000 miles and 'inspections' every other 15,000 miles. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.8 Glow Plug Light Flashing And Cut Outs 17 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Taken to local garage who fitted new pedal assembly as fly by wire suspected faulty. This didn't help - same problem occurred twice afterwards. Fuel filter was also checked for water and crankshaft sensor inspected for dirt etc (was spotless). No faults found on diagnostics either by this garage or AA. Any help or ideas on what may be causing this would be greatly appreciated! -
Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 98 1.9T Diagnostic light on when cold,goes off whe 16 Jul 2009 (Forum)
It was a mess being in limp mode. With air in the diesel, glowplugs not working and was just running bad. Replaced air/fuel/oil filters, glowplugs, changed engine and gearbox oil.Starts first time and runs smooth.Revs quick however not underload. (Limp mode) Found that the instument panel was opened and ABS/Engine Diagnostic/Airbag lights missing. -
Daewoo Matiz (1998 - 2004) - 00 796 Ignition failure while driving 8 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I bought the car off a friend 2 months ago. 4 garage visits have led to replacing the distributor, the fuel injector and the valve-pulse module. The last two were by the local Chevrolet dealer after a computer check. Now the local Chevrolet dealer says the computer wants me to replace the immobiliser ECU, cost £330. -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - PartEx Options for changing 2 cars at once 9 Apr 2009 (Forum)
We both feel that we need updated cars (my wife is getting to the stage where she's spending more on servicing/tax/fuel each year than the car's worth). I'm thinking of moving to a 5 series (probably a 530D) and my wife to a Focus (or similar). The question is, what are the best options for part exchanging? Do we look for minimum part exchange deals for my wife's car (do they even offer those deals these days?) -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 325i v 330d 24 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Initially I wanted to get the 330d but the 325i is a lot cheaper. 325i would be £6k, 330d £8K+, both around 90-100k miles. 325i does 31mpg, 330d 41mpg. So its the extra £2.5k extra outlay for the 330d versus the fuel savings I'll get in 5 years. Anyone got a rough idea which would be cheaper to run after 5 years? I'm more interested in the drive of the car. The 330d's torque at 410nm beats the 325i at 245nm but its still adequate (similar to my tdci but with much more power). -
Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 94 1.4 heater 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
HI ALL.... following on from a diffo post....about my hi fuel consumption.... my heater only blows cold air i read that the clio's suffer from the heater matrix clogging/scaling up so i tried this.... take off the hoses from the the matrix where it goes though the bulkhead...i put some clear tubing onto the in/outlets of the matrix....blew though some air to remove some more water and elevated the hoses and filled with heavy duty descaler from the supermarket...the type you have to leave to work.....i left it for 5 hrs and a lot of cr#p came out when i flushed it ....put it all back together again ....while this hasnt cured it 100% i now have warmer air and the stuff i used recomends leaving it for 8hrs....but i couldnt....this may seem like a bit of mucking about but its that or taking the dashboard out to fit a new matrix....so i'm gonna do it another couple of times to see if it helps... i'll post the results as and when .....AL........ -
7.5t driver - Future employment options? 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
We have no obvious ties to any particular sector of industry however so the slowdown in new-build housing etc isn?t having a savage effect on us, but rising fuel costs are biting hard. If the worst happens and I do lose my job, what other possibilities are open to me? I?m a very good, experienced truck driver (I hope!) but if no-one?s recruiting truck drivers good or otherwise, what are my other options? -
Volkswagen Touran MPV (2003 - ) - 04 1.9 Forecourt Diesel Pump Cuts out all the time 9 Sep 2008 (Forum)
If I squeeze any harder, it cuts out constantly, even at the low flow rate it still cuts out occasionally. I cannot understand why this is happening, the fuel isn't blocking the airhole cutout, as the tank is usually empty. It's not the pump, as I fill up my other Citroen at the same pump, same petrol station, so it's something with the Touran's tank or inlet pipe which is to blame Any ideas anyone. -
How is your personality expressed through the car? 20 Aug 2008 (Forum)
So, How is your personality expressed through the car? and does that expression extend elsewhere? Put another way. Is that use of fuel additives reflected in the patio door hinges receiving `care` and do you consider you have `free choice` in any of these matters? ;) Regards -
Environmental impact of new cars 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
If everybody got a new car every 5 years then I think it would be more than 15%. I've just had a look at some figures, and it doesn't look like fuel consumption has improved much. I've looked at a couple of common cars, and the improvement is much less than 15%. I've done a comparison between a current, and 15 year old models. 1.0 Corsa - improvement of upto 9% (depending the model) 1.6 Mondeo - improvement of just over 8% 2.5 Mondeo - improvement of between 0% and 11% depending on the model Looking at these figures I can't see how it will be good for the environment. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.2 Will not fire upll turn over thow 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I had driven it to work and parked it up with no problems, but I had a slight smell of petrol in the cabin. a couple of days early I had done a long journey down to Devon, and on the way back I had filled the tank to the top there was a slight blip in the power, but it ran home ok, but as I said a few days later it had a slight smell of petrol and would not start. the RAC said it looks like the fuel pump was not working and towed me home. Is it that, do you think? Also, the engine management light flashes when I try and start the car. The RAC said that that is probably when the car tries to turn over it all getting confused, and that something is wrong (I don't need a flashing light to tell me that)!! -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 04 2.2 Direct won't start 9 May 2008 (Forum)
Urgently need advice for my car. 2.2 Sri Direct.I dislocated my shoulder 2 weeks ago and cannot drive for a few weeks. My sister took my car for a run on Monday evening and parked it (facing down) on a hill.It has been there for 2 days.Tonight I tried to start it, but simply nothing. All electrics ok.No alarms on the dashboard, but there is no 'clicking' noise like a starter motor, just a 'whirring' noise.Almost as if there is a fan in the engine and no engine at all. Car is a 2.2 Petrol with 51k miles.Approx 2 months ago the high pressure fuel pump and O2 sensor were replaced.I changed the spark plugs around 4 weeks ago.It has been running great. There has been a lot of rain today, but this is Scotland and it has been parked there before (not for 2 days) and started fine. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - I may have made a mistake.... 30 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Love the car, drives well, well built etc. HOWEVER it would appear that my 9-10K miles a year is going to change drastically to 20-25k. Fuel consumption is the one downer on the Focus (max 38mpg) and I now wonder if I should chop it in quick for a diesel. Sods law I part ex'd a diesel Seat Toledo for the Focus-partly because I only done 8K miles last year in it so thought petrol would be okay..... -
Switching off when stationary - is it worth it? 7 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Reading an article in a car magazine that gave tips on how to save fuel, you know the sort of thing - remove your roofrack, check tyre pressures etc! One recommendation was to switch off your engine when stationary eg traffic lights. Now I know VW and Citroen have previously sold stop/start cars that did this automatically but is there really a saving to be made? -
Peugeot Partner Combi (2001 - 2004) - '55 Partner van, Diesel throttle cable adjustment 19 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Naturally aspirated (although I believe this still leaves more than one option). The fuel pump is mounted on the front RH (drivers) side, if this helps! I got fed up today with the absolute lack of performance of this heap I'm obliged to drive. I was sure its lack of performance was due to a slack throttle cable, and managed to prise off the plastic engine cover.
