Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - [1995 1299CC] - Correct/Best Oil? 27 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Its currently got 10/40 semi synthetic in it which I put in last time it was serviced because I had the oil for free, I understand this is the wrong oil! Now the engine does sound a little bit tappy when running, I have been told this is perfectly normal for the age/type of engine and that its more of an annoyance than it is a problem, I was advised that if I was to put a thicker oil in it will quieten down. -

Toyota - Corolla 2005 Diesel Not Starting no fuel 11 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I ran the car till the tank was (I thought) nearly empty. I guess it was pretty dry. The was still running normally when I stopped. However this morning it would not start (there was a clicking noise when I tried), but no starter motor. I got 8l of diesel and poured it in the tank and operated the bleeding button on the top of the fuel pump (for quite a while). -

Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 1.5d - rough idle 23 Oct 2007 (Forum)
It has the following symptoms: Rough idling when hot or cold poor fuel economy blue smoke lumpy when running but not all the time Im unsure whether the timing belt has anything to do with the problem as I would have thought if the timing was out it would not be smooth all of the time rather than some of it. -
Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 1995 Quartz 1.1 - sometimes won't start 17 Oct 2007 (Forum)
This might be before setting out, or at the shops before going home. After waiting an hour it will restart, and runs perfectly until the next time. Neither the AA or the local garage can find any fault. Just recently she was driving along and the car began to slowly lose power, and eventually stopped. Again after a wait it restarted and ran normally. -

when i come to a stop at a junction or lights the car can just cut out and further to this when i leave the car running the revs fluctuate as if the car is going to stall then revs climb... i have heard this could be the idle speed control valve and many ppl have the same problem but has anyone any advice? -

Top 10 lethal roads 9 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Er.....because there are more big cities in the North with weekend bikers who like to go for a blast on the twisties and more young drivers from urban centres out for a run? This lot meeting each other and other slower moving road users like lorries and caravans is a more frequent occurence than in the South. It's not difficult is it? -
W12 Phaeton 9 Aug 2007 (Forum)
And surely a handcrafted (nice factory: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1837641) Phaeton with high-quality interior trim will look/run better at 6 years than say a 3-series (same price?) at 3 years. Bad idea? -
Two cars, one NCD 27 Jul 2007 (Forum)
What's the best way to do this, is it a standard thing for insurers to do? I'm thinking it may take us up to a month to sort out - is this too long for an insurer to run two cars on one policy? Hope this makes sense, would appreciate any advice Lee -- Biggedy biggedy bong -
Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 12v oil change/grade 27 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Hi there, my friends 1998 corsa 1.0 12v has just had an oil change, shortly after returning from the garage, the oil light came on, so she stopped, checked the oil level - which was just below the maximum mark. so she continued to drive. the oil light remained illuminated. And now, the car sounds like a really unrefined diesel engine when running, (much like a cavalier 1.7TD), the noise sounds very "tappety". I'm wondering if the garage has used the wrong grade of oil in the car?? Am i correct in thinking this?? and also, does anyone know the grade of oil that should be used? -
Pug206HDi. Ran out of fuel, ECU light on 12 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Since then however, my engine management warning light has constantly been on and ive no idea why. Can this light come on as a result of running out of fuel?? Or could some other sensor have triggered that causes the light to be on. I know i should try find out the error code; but I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas or have experienced this before. -
Does Halfords price match? 8 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I am going to buy a stereo within the next week and I can get the stereo from quite a few online dealers for £229.99 delivered. Halfords charge £299.99. I am fully aware that a bricks and motar set-up costs more to run but £70 is a large price difference at this price point. To be honest, I would rather deal with a B&M store and am prepared to pay more for it but not that difference. If anybody knows if they will discount, please let me know. -
Ideas for a functional estate circa £2k 25 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Being a pensioner his budget is limited to circa £2k and I'm looking for something that is 'functional' - i.e. not bothered about colour, styling or extras. Should be cheap to run so nothing over 2.0L size engines, petrol or diesel would fit the bill. I'm considering estate variants of the following: Ford Mondeo Vauxhall Vectra Peugeot 406 Hoping to get something around on a 2000 plate or there abouts. -
Cybersurveillance: are we safe? 19 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Do-gooders, spoilsports and general po-faced nincompoops have put an end to smoking and fox-hunting, both harmless to bystanders and even beneficial in various ways (please don't bother to argue about this). Motoring is now squarely in their sights. How long before we too are being run to earth and imprisoned for our attitudes and for parading them so shamelessly on a website? Discuss, if the moderators will let you... :o) -
Mercedes High Speed Test Laredo Texas 16 Jun 2007 (Forum)
In April/May 2005 Mercedes-Benz carried out a high speed test run at Laredo Texas. The cars were 3 new (or just about to be released in Europe) 320CDI E Class saloons. Each car covered 100,000 miles at an average speed of around 140 mph. I am trying to find some detailed information about the test, which was observed by the FIA. -
2001 Nissan Maxima QX 3.0 SE+ - beeping 13 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hope someone (Aprilia maybe ?) can help. When I start the engine all the warning lights go out and the car runs very quietly & smoothly. After around 10 to 20 seconds there are 2 short beeps from the passenger footwell / centre gear lever console area. The Nissan Sat Nav was disabled before I bought the car - could it be searching for a CD for the Sat Nav or is it something else. -
Fiesta 1.25 16V Zetec S Cambelt Change 6 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I seem to remember reading on the Forum that it should be replaced at 6 years, regardless of mileage. We would like to keep running the car for another 3/4 years. Many thanks for reading. -
Puma - dead cat? 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I've had the cat off and the matrix is place but does look sooty, as does the inside of the exhaust manifold. This would make me think that it's running rich, but then surely this would show in the other readings. Does anybody have any wisdom they can pass on?
