  • Kia Cee'd 1.6 Diesel (113) - 'High Power' - Kia Cee'd - DMF, DPF, chain cam? True or false... 27 Mar 2011 (Forum)
the following, I'd be grateful:- 1) The car does not have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) 2) Strangely, the car does not have a dual mass flywheel (DMF) 3) The engine is chain cam, rather than cam belt. Cheers Mr Moo
  • Ford Escort 1600 Zytec 1998 - Misfire 14 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Also when I start it up from cold the revs rise and then fall without touching the throttle. Mechanically, the car is in very good condition and goes like a 1600 should. It doesn't use oil or water. This is an old car and I don't want throw money at it on a 'suck it and see' basis. Has anybody had the same experience and could please point me in the right direction for curing this problem?
  • Trailer regs puzzle 15 Dec 2009 (Forum)
This morning I went to a dealer to look at a suitable trailer for moving my old car around the country. I already had something in mind for size and length but was rather thrown when the dealership owner insisted that he would not be able to let me drive away with any of the trailers I was thinking of buying unless I had a suitable vehicle.
  • Body assembly 29 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I would expect a decent body shop to be able to adjust it quickly and cheaply, but when I mentioned it she became alarmed. Didn't want to know. Cars look a hell of a lot better when everything on the outside is lined up properly. It amazes me that a dealer could offer a car for sale in that state, but I have often had to realign doors and so on in the past just so that my eye wouldn't be offended whenever I saw the thing.
  • Petrol v diesel conundrum 26 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hello All, Long time no post - good to see some of the old regulars are still, er, regulars! Hope all are well! Having been self employed for a while now I am being tempted by an attractive offer to head back into the corporate world. I don?t yet have firm details (budget, allowance in lieu of car etc) though it seems like I am going to be looking for a new car at some point and I am a little out of touch on specs etc, more on that later perhaps.
  • Peugeot 309 (1986 - 1993) - 1989 1.9 possible fuel filter problem 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hello. I bought my diesel car a few months back & have been really pleased with it. There is one problem however & wanted to ask some advice before starting to hunt for a car part For the first few weeks after I bought it the 'water in fuel filter' indicater would go on & then go off by itself.
  • Driving on side lights 24 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Surprisingly its not the bangers I'm referring to, the majority are reasonably new, some very expensive models. Maybe old habits die hard for some drivers. Rant over!!
  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 98 1.5D Removing sheared nut on glow plug 11 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My newly bought 106 diesel was having trouble starting from cold so after looking on this site and talking to the vendor of the car, I decided to replace the Glow Plugs. (Vendor has offer to pay for Glow Plugs and is offering a full refund of the car if they don't solve the problem- top guy!!). I have replaced three of the plugs no problem but the last one seems to have sheared its "grip" nut.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.4 Zetec Stalling Problems when slowing down. 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The old one was rusted. Any ideas? Reading the posts regarding the 1.3 engine could it be the Idle control valve?? The engine idles fine while the car is stationary in traffic. Considering the problem arises when the clutch is pressed could there be a fault with the clutch?
  • Jaguar XJ8 and XJR8 (1997 - 2003) - 99 3.2 Odd emissions problem 7 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Anyone seen anything similar? Kevin... PS. I've got a Subaru Justy as a comp. car. I'll post my impressions later.
  • BMW 3-Series E36 (1991 - 1998) - 1997 2.5 vibration from rear 13 Jun 2008 (Forum)
When I drove down my local dual carriageway there was a vibration from the back, pervading the whole car and through the feet. I took the car back to the tyre dealer and had them rebalanced. Still vibrating so had them rebalanced another 2 times. Still vibrating, so I swapped the spare for the nearside rear and virtually banished the problem.
  • Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 1993 1.1 - Starting Problems when Cold 29 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Have tried various numbers of accelerator pumps pre turnover and holding pedal to the floor, taking of air filter etc but cannot find a single reliable 'trick' to get it going. Got this car in the Summer and it started every time mostly first time - seems to have come on when the weather got cold/damp - but that may be coincidence. Have always owned older cars (this is the newest one I have ever owned) so fairly familiar with old car starting problems - but this one - with its electronic EMS etc - has got me baffled.
  • Parking sensors 16 Jun 2007 (Forum)
For anyone who thinks parking sensors are a sissy accessory they might be right, but I love them. If you have a largish car and find turning to look behind you getting increasingly difficult you will love them too.
  • Ageing Mondeo - time to say bye bye? 15 Jun 2007 (Forum)
In another 3 months it will have to pass its MoT - at goodness knows what price. The car has to work hard ..... for work, I typically have to drive 40 miles, then take to pot-holey minor roads and farm tracks. I do about 13k miles pa. I take the car to have no monetary value at present, but my local independent mechanic seems to think that the above mentioned outlays would be worth it to keep the car on the road for another 2 years/20k miles or so.
  • VR6- speed and torque 21 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Recently bought a VR6, replacing my father's old TDI. And to be honest i prefer the VR6 but only just! My comments so far (please excuse my ignorance when it does come to cars) The pulling power on the TDI was greater, somehow, although official figures suggest that the VR6 has more torque.
  • Image - why is this country so obsessed? 6 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I've just come back from Italy for the umpteenth time and it struck me while I was there how Italians generally do not seem bothered by the badge on their car. They all look very stylishly dressed but their car seems to be entirely a tool to get from A to B, thus the proliferation of old Fiats and little runabouts. I've also travelled a lot in Germany and it always strikes me there how different they are too.
  • Mazda 323 2003 : brake discs failed MOT 12 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Fair enough. However, the car had its 36000 Mazda dealer service just 2-3 weeks ago. So two questions arise: 1) Surely the Mazda dealer should have warned me about this and not passed the car for its service? Why am I paying £250 for a service that doesn't do anything?
  • Guarantee on Work 29 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I've only asked a question on here once before, but the answers were so helpful I thought I'd come back. Contrary to all that helpful advice on my first car, I bought an eleven year old Renault Clio (my budget got very very small after I posted here). Anyway, I was trundling round when I heard (and felt) this really nasty grinding noise from the front driver's side tyre.
  • who writes this stuff? 4 Mar 2005 (Forum)
An example that comes to mind concerns various assessments of the Honda Jazz vs VW Polo. I recently had the misfortune to be given a Polo 1.2 as a courtesy car while my CR-V was in for repair to accident damage. I thought the Polo was an absolute 'dog' even though it was only a few months old. Out of curiosity I looked at various mags for their views on the relative merits of these cars.
