Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 2002 2.2dti, limp mode when accelerating at 50/70 2 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My mechanic said it is most likely vacuum hoses, and is almost never the Turbo. Any ideas to help me and my pretty clued up mechanic. nb, fuel consumption is poor, but I guess that is this model. Mileage is 99000. Any advice much appreciated. -
Audi A6 + RS6 (1997 - 2004) - 02 2.5 Shuddering when accelerating in low gears ( 26 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Despite a full and very expensive service at an audi main dealer, my A6 Avant 2.5 TDI (02) is shuddering quite badly when accellerating from a standstill or from a v low speed (probably from 1st gear only - it is an auto gearbox). The problem was reported to them before the sevice and they changed the fuel filter in the service (scheduled) which seemed to rectify the problem but it has started again just a few months later (and not many miles added). With various bits and pieces the last service came to £1k and i don't feel like giving them any more of my money! -
Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 2007, 1.4. Firm ride and alternative tyres queries 25 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I bought a new Jazz 1.4 SE cvt auto. The car does good 40mpg fuel economy around town but I'm not so happy with the firm ride. Even driving slowly on say block paved streets, there is noticable vibration through the steering and seat. I don't have a problem with the ride with other cars like 2001 Polo, Touran, 98 Civc and A150 (15" wheels) The Jazz is fitted with standard fit 15" alloys with Bridgestone RE040 185/55 15" H rated tyres, and I've read this combination can make the ride worse. -
Best used small automatic for under £4k? 1 Aug 2008 (Forum)
My Polo is more than nippy enough for me, though I realise an auto will sap some power and use more fuel. Would I perhaps need a 1.6 to give me the same sort of performance I'm used to? I can't find much info on auto Polos, such as how many speeds the box has etc. Any suggestions most appreciated! -
What small auto? 29 Jul 2008 (Forum)
She's 22 and has an automatic only licence. Budget for a new one is £10k, cash, but low insurance and reasonable fuel economy are priorities as she does a fairly large mileage. It needs to be a conventional auto, not a semi-automatic even though her licence would allow her to drive one. She's decided that she likes the old SEAT Ibiza - the only problem is that either she is going to get no discount because it'll be the last one in the country, or she won't get one at all. -
Toyota Aygo (2005 - ) - Real world mpg 26 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Real mpg figures measured brim to brim(unleaded petrol, not diesel or super unleaded) thus far since new in April are: 55 55 58 57 57 57 55 58 61 58 58 59 65 To put that into perspective, yer actual money saved on fuel compared to doing the same mileage on my old car is £566 since April 22nd 2008. There's a good mix of serious stop start, general commuting and motorway in there, and the car has now done just over 4000 miles. -
The most economical... 16 Jul 2008 (Forum)
My Mum has written off her Mondeo, and whilst everything is fine, she's looking at much smaller cars these days than when she bought the TDCi, my Dad having now got a much larger cruiser for their Spainish trips. In a never-ending quest for fuel consumption and cheap tax, she's been considering the following: 107 1.0 Urban (with a/c), Clio Dci 80 Dynamique (old shape, again with a/c), Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 90 (6spd) Dynamic, Ford Fiesta Zetec-S TDCi and Citroen C3 HDi SX. -
Ford - Declaring warranty work on my car when selling 12 Jul 2008 (Forum)
As background, I bought a new Ford Fiesta back in 2006. The car went in for some warranty work to repair a leaking fuel injector pipe. The car is and has been working fine since it was done. 1. When selling the car, am I required to declare this work? 2. What comebacks do buyers have on me if I do not declare the work? -
Citroen ZX (1992 - 1998) - 1991 1.9i petrol Engine problems 2 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The mobile mechanic put an indicator box on one of the plug leads, and earth, the car started and ran until the engine was turned off, there were sparks jumping across the coil leads to ground, replaced the coil and amplifier, engine will not start, had the ECU checked by a garage, 14 faults registered, sent ECU away to be checked, OK no problem with the ECU. There is no spark at the plugs or fuel into the injectors when the engine is turned over with the ignition on. The rev counter seems to register 2000 revs, when the engine is turned over. It is a good car, and I am getting desperate to find the fault, anybody got any ideas PLEASE. -
Mazda 323 (1998 - 2003) - Shell V-Power Diesel 27 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I just wanted to share my own experience with the v-power diesel which I've been using on/off for last 3 weeks. I filled up the car with v-power diesel (fuel tank was almost empty). Drove the car and after few miles I could feel the smoothness and a bit of extra power in particular when driving in 3rd/4th gear. Then I filed it up with the normal shell diesel and the car felt really rough and loud. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - oil overfill 3 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The car has done some mileage since (in the order of 700 miles, about 500 of which are mine). There are no leaks or anything unusual so far. It drives well. Fuel consumption on the long run was as expected. I wonder, if the overfill had caused a problem, would it be noticeable by now? Should I request the dealership to check the exhaust gas is up to MOT standards, in case damage to the cat has been done? -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.6 - Engine lubrication when running on LPG 19 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I ask this because I have been told LPG has no lubricants etc., included. Is that correct? I manually switch the fuel types on a regular basis between petrol & LPG as advised. This is to add the missing LPG lubricant into the engine. Is there an aftermarket product (add to oil, attach to engine lubricator) out there that will protect the engine as a unit? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 1.9 diesel estate. Cold starting problem. 17 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I took it to one garage and they put in new oil and a new starter motor. A few weeks later I went to another garage and they put in a new fuel pump idle control valve which cost about £20 plus labour. The mechanic said we'll try it,might help, but it hasn't made any difference. I find that garages don't always know a lot about diesel engines so they experiment....we'll try this we'll try that and see if it works. -
Your commute - plan it on public transport 12 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Currently I work about 18 miles from home, and the road is a glorious old one that nobody else seems to use (it runs parallell to the motorway so perhaps they are all on that). It costs me about 11p per mile (very rough - £60 gets me about 530 miles) in fuel. So my current journey costs me about £2 each way, and takes about 25 minutes. I just used http://www.transportdirect.info and http://www.thetrainline.co.uk to plan the same journey. I would have to: Walk to the bus stop - 3 minutes Bus into town to the station - 21 minutes and about £1.50 Train journey - 16 minutes and £6.50 return Walk to the office - about 15 minutes. -
Super-saloon - realistic running costs? 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I won't be trading the Boxster for a while, so this is more out of interest than intent, but having spent an afternoon looking at moters on the trader website I saw some tasty 15k-ish motors: * E39 M5 * E46 M3 * CLK 500 * Audi S4 Do these motors realistically cost more to run than a Boxster or is that naive? The Boxster isn't particularly cheap to run IMO. I'm not talking about insurance, fuel & tax, which will obviously be higher in these group 20 monsters, just servicing & maintenance & provisional budget for service parts etc. With the Boxster it seems to cost about 1k-1.5k a year using specialists, which I can stomach (just). -
Petrol Grade 95 or 97 ??? 2 Aug 2007 (Forum)
When the load on the engine is greater, so too will be this adjustment. When the adjustment is greatest, fuel efficiency is reduced. By using 97 in place of 95, the onset of knock is delayed so the engine is able to operate closer to its optimum level for longer and you will get more miles to your gallon. - - - - The general rule, I understood from this at the time is that for modern engines (where adustments of this type are made automatically as part of normal operation) you may be better to use 97 when doing long periods of high speed motorway driving with a car load of family or luggage. -
Can you recommend a suitable car? 30 Apr 2007 (Forum)
A sunroof would be nice, so long as it does not impinge on headroom. Air conditioning and central locking. We have no real preference regarding fuel type, but shy away from LPG due to its scarcity in this part of Kent. A 'car' would be preferred as opposed to a 'van' or 'minibus' style vehicle. Before somebody recommends a Discovery or Shogun, Range Rover, Land Cruiser, etc...they all fail on headroom. -
Peugeot 306 d turbo injection pump fault 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi i have 1996 306 d turbo sport. It has the lucas pump. Basically I adjusted the maximum fuel screw on the diesel pump. Just like i have done on a few other cars to give them that bit more power. After doing all this I put the plastic plug back in. Primed the pump back up using the hand pump. -
306 diesel won't rev past 3100rpm... 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I've recently fitted a replacement engine to my 306. The new engine came from a citroen zx and has a bosch fuel pump without immobiliser, in order to get it to run all I wired in was the stop soleniod. The old engine had a lucas pump with immobiliser, don't know if any of this helps. For some reason the engine won't go past 3100rpm. -
popping inside engine, peugeot engine 10 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The head has just been rebuilt so is known good in all aspects, compression test shows up nothing untoward, oil pressure is spot on, coolant is dead level, fuel/air is right at idle and it only makes the noise at idle. Ive got a quick vid of it, first from the exhaust and then from the gunson so you can see it defiunatley up the engine end and you can see the brighter flashes.
