  • Right hand gear change 1 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Whilst pressing the gearchange is fine the hooking motion is a problem. When I owned a bike back in the early 70's it had a right hand gearchange. Is it just classics that have this or are any bikes made this way around as standard or an option?
  • Registration Docs Query 4 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Before ring them, does anyone know roughly how long it would take. I?m just worried that possibly I?m driving a car that technically in the DVLA?s eyes does not belong to me. Many Thanks
  • Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.8 Boot Lock 3 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I've read somewhere, and I can't recall where, that it's just a microswitch that needs replacing instead of the Ford option which is the complete unit at £££'s. Has anyone any experience of replacing the microswitch and is it the type of thing I'm likely to find in Maplins?

  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - C Class reliability 8 May 2009 (Forum)
I've heard good things about the performance of the 3.0 diesel but I'm worried about overall reliability. Did things improve towards the end of the W203's production. The car I'm thinking of has about 36K on the clock. Anyone know anything about this car?
  • Rear tyre wear 3 May 2009 (Forum)
My car has recently had it?s first MOT at the main dealership, as part of the service they did a check of all of the fluid levels and gave me a report on the tyre tread depth all round. I found it interesting to note that although I have a front wheel drive diesel the rear tyres have worn slightly more than the fronts, I was expecting it to be the other way around, the difference was only 0.5mm, is this a sign of something or just normal running?
  • The AEC's that built the M25 11 Apr 2009 (Forum)
http://aec.middx.net/frames/framephotos1.htm Does anyone remember the huge fleet of ancient red AEC tippers that worked on the construction of the M25 in the 1980's? I used to see them working everyday and it always facinated me how they kept going judging by the heavy punishment they used to take. Anyway I came across this excellent site, and thought some of the pictures might be of interest to some.
  • General question. Rust prevention/cure - products? 3 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hiya Can anybody recommend product(s) that will help stop further rusting of my 1994 VW Golf. I am looking at two area's to treat: 1) Underbody - bits picked up by nice MOT man. 2) Bodywork - bottom of doors. Rust there, want to treat then touchup with paint.
  • Front coil spring replacement 28 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Had full 4-wheel steering geometry checked and realigned in early Feb. Mid March had f/n/s coil spring failure, so followed Vx recommendation and had both sides replaced. [see other posting on this matter] Should the repairing garage - Vx dealer - have had the geometry re-done/checked? The tyre specialist where the geometry check was done, said 'certainly' The VX garage said not necessary . . .
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.2 injector low voltage 4 Jan 2009 (Forum)

  • Insurance claims - main reasons for. 19 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I've been reading "10 ways to avoid making a claim on your car insurance" in the "Fool". These are rather prosaic - there's also this paragraph: "According to M&S Money, these were the top five reasons for car-insurance claims last December: 1. Drove into third party; 2. Hit in rear while stationary; 3. Hit animal or object; 4. Third party emerged from side road into vehicle; and 5.
  • Thanks for the screen wash - car in front 23 Nov 2008 (Forum)
You almost wish you had set things up like that yourself for the 2 metres from the bumper tail-gators. Of course, a single jet angled from the back washer - like a dog cocking it`s leg - would be just too obvious, I guess..
  • Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 1998 1.2 2nd Gear problems 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi, Just bought this for my g'friend. only 58k on the clock and is S reg. Everything seemed to be in good condition. However, 2nd gear is really hard to get sometimes and as she has only passed her test v recently, she is finding it a bit of a pain. Any ideas what it could be?
  • Mirror fix... 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Whilst out cycling this morning I passed a parked Peugeot van with a strangely modified o/s door mirror, unbelievably the missing mirror glass had been replaced with a Compact Disc! Got me thinking as to how good a replacement this might be, tried replicating what this van driver might see by using one as a mirror at home and the answer is not much at all, the hole in the middle of the CD is a major distraction and the image is quite dark, can't see how this can be safe to drive in traffic like this......

  • Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - Fumes/smell in car 16 May 2008 (Forum)
We recently got this S reg Clio as a runaround. It smells a bit fumey inside when on the move. No visible clouds from the exhaust. Had the exhaust system checked out for any leaks & that's fine. Can't smell anything under the hood when engine running.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - (98-04) 1.9 Tdi re-mapping 11 May 2008 (Forum)
I know someone who has had their 1.9 GT Tdi PD 115 remapped to 150. Can anyone tell me if this is safe for the car as I was under the impression the 150's had a much larger camshaft to cope with the extra torque? (no mention of year, so used info from the drop down menu choice made)
  • VED change and unintended consequences 25 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I've noticed how many ads there are in the papers for fairly high CO2 emitting cars at present, including very seriously high 4*4's. Does anyone else think it's the manufacturers persuading people to buy before the showroom tax comes in? Would anyone do that? If people do buy now rather than later, the law of unintended consequences operates so that instead of there being fewer high CO2 emitters, there are more and on the road earlier.
  • Audi A6 + RS6 (1997 - 2004) - 1998 1.8T cracked windscreen on the inside 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Closer inspection shows a crack the starts under the plastic at the bottom of the screen and rises up 25 cm or so in an 'S' shape. No marks on the outside and the crack is on the inside. Rang the insurance and the RAC and they had not heard of this before. I'll have to get it changed next week. Bother. !! Regards Peter
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 98 1.0 litre Uneven tickover 6 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My S reg. Corsa 1 litre will not run smoothly. It doesn't idle at 1500rpm - it runs from 1000 to 2000. If you try to hold the revs. at 2000, it runs from 1500 to 2500. This carries on throughout the rev range.
