Suzuki Alto (2009 - ) - Can I change insurance company's mind? 24 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi this is my first post and was just wondering if anyone had any advice. In December I bought a brand new Suzuki Alto, at 42 I have never had a brand new car before and this was my pride and joy, I had saved hard and used my 10 year old Nissan Micra (under scrappage deal) to be able to afford car. Obviously it then snowed, and snowed and snowed so in fact I had only driven the car for approx. 3 weeks, the rest of the time it's sat on my drive nice and safe. -
Aging population as car buyers 4 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It occurred to me today that the aging population may have an affect on what cars people want. I know its a cliche, but down the road that I live, which is pretty well as retired middle england as you could hope to find, most of the elderly folk are driving traditional old folk cars. -
Car technology - Any real advances? 13 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I am a 37 year old petrol head but am just frustrated at the lack of 'real progress' in car design. Any comments on this thread greatfully received. Spanner -
Sports car fun for a year! 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
But I get the impression that it is a 'racing car adapted for the road' rather than the Porsche which seems to be a road car, road car err, if you know what I mean. Private sale, the guy wants £35,000. The head says Porsche even though it is double the age and mileage. -
V5C 12 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Hi, Please advise, A couple of years ago my then 88 year old friend who both my wife and I were looking after due to him not having any family members received a court summons due to not sorning his car which was quite a shock to him, and his car had been in his garage for over a year due to his driving licence expiring, my wife is down as next of kin and we wrote to the Magistrate explaining the situation and consequently the car was sorn. -
Renault Clio 2017 - Lipping on Brake discs 11 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Just had the Clio's 3rd service and had its first MOT, the car is 3 years old and the car has just under 20,000 Miles on the clock, One of the things that was brought up was lipping on the brake disc and advised to get the discs and pads replaced in the next couple of months. -
Mazda 2 - Wind tunnel noise 13 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Any suggestions to where I stand. The noise isn't normal or like any wind noise I have heard even in old cars. Wheels don't seem to have any play, so a mystery so far! -
FIAT Panda - Starting-Clock zeroes-Rattle behind Dash-Battery? 4 Jan 2019 (Forum)
2011 Fiat Panda. Current battery is an Exide 12v40AH. (original battery?) When starting car from cold the car starts OK with not much cranking but often the dash clock time resets to 0 and there is a rattle behind the dash/console on the Right Hand Side - perhaps a relay clicking in and out several times ? -
Vauxhall Corsa - Corsa won't start after months without use 12 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Hello all, Having bought a new car, I left my old 2001 Vauxhall Corsa with about 60k miles on the clock parked without being used over the winter. I've been trying to get it to start since April, wanting to MOT the car and sell it. -
Suggestions for a big engined luxobarge? 28 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I am looking for an older car with a larger engine ie above 4 litres either petrol and diesel which isnt too pricy, ie within a budget of upto £10000. As demand for these cars are going down, I am hoping to get one without too much of a hit on the old budget. -

Toyota Corolla 1.3 1998 - Whistling when at high RPM 18 Apr 2016 (Forum)
A friend of my fiancee's mother is selling her 1998 Toyota Corolla 1.3 car. There are a few body work issues (which is all to be expected for an 18 year old car), and it drives much much better than the Peugeot 3008 I'm currently driving and has only done 98,000 and she has had it since 10,000. -
Nissan Qashqai+2 - Nissan Qashqai+2 1.5 Diesel (Nov 2011, 60,000M) 26 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Hi I have had the above car since it was 6 months old. Always serviced by the Nissan dealer. Last service was June for the major 50,000M service. Since June it has broken down 3 times. First two times (early July, only 2 weeks after service) and 5th September Nissan kept the car for a month as they said they needed to order a part. -
VW Polo 59 reg ( new shape) - Bodywork problems 7 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Originally they though it may be a batch of faulty paint but are now unsure. They have called in a VW paint expert who will examine the car next week and they will decide on a course of action. They are a big local body shop, approved for most major manufacturers, and are very concerned and helpful, but we are getting frustrated. This was a car we thought we would keep, now we feel we will have to get rid of it which will cost us money and force us to change cars at a time when we are unable to buy a new car again. -
Next car - haven't bought it yet! - Extended warranty - what's it like? 28 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hello I am looking for my next used car on the private market. I have never used an extended warranty before, wondered if it would be worth it, and what other people's experiences were, good and bad. As 10-year old cars are so much more money to buy these days it makes things quite a bit more risky. -
Mazda 3 TS diesel - Mazda 3TS 2010 model - engine failure at 33k miles 27 Nov 2013 (Forum)
It is always fine. 4 months later and the car suddenly starts making ticking noise which seemed to get louder when revving engine at a junction. There are no warning lights at any point and the car is driving just fine. Driving to garage next morning to report problem and get looked in to and car dies. -
ASX v Mazda 3 - New car Time ? Dealer Discounts and advice 23 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi I have a 9 yr old Corolla Diesel..I'm aware it could go on for years, but I'm very car dependent and also aware, the original exhaust and other bits and pieces may start to fail soon. It's hard to schedule garage appointments if things go wrong too with work. -
Renault Koleos - Renault Warranty Claims 13 May 2012 (Forum)
We had a 58 plate Renault Koleos that had an engine failure at 28,971 miles. The vehicle was 6 months old when we bought the car from the main dealer. We have had the one service performed on the Vehicle in July 2010 and the second service is due, by time, as the service indicator say 2000 miles to the next service. -

Clutching 8 Jan 2012 (Forum)
My mechanical empathy feels for the poor old clutch release bearing in my friends cars and it surprises me they are not in the garage once a year for a clutch job. If I am driving in the above examples I have the car in gear and "drive" the car over humps or around corners.
