The sensible option 1 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Tasked with finding a good used car for brother in law for up to £7,000 I started looking at my usual default choices, Mazda 3, Honda Civic, Toyota Auris and Ford Focus 1.6 petrol. It never ceases to impress me how many excellent cars you can buy for so little money. -
Skoda Rapid Spaceback - Dealership is talking rubbish 27 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I would actually prefer to use a different word for them. Ongoing issues with the coolant levels in my 2 year old car. After a service last month the coolant light came on. Checked and it was below minimum level. Garage took it in and said it needed a new radiator but wouldn't know until they got it out whether it would be warranty or not. -
SEAT Toledo - Strange Electrical Problem 1.6 TDI 11 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Hi, for the past few weeks, my car has developed a strange power issue which I can't figure out. The car is serviced annually, currently has around 55k on the clock and had a new battery around 6 months ago as the old one simply gave up and refused to charge. -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 2002 - New Serpentine Belt Now Fiesta Will Not Start 27 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I fitted the new Gates belt(and also replaced the power steering belt with a Gates belt ). When i came to start the car it felt like the battery was dead. It churned slowly and then died. Jump started it, went for a 20 minute drive to charge battery. Car drove as normal. No overheating issues or strange noises. Since then i have not been able to start the car using the battery which is 1 year old. -
Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI Elegance - skoda engine failure & appalling customer service 7 Dec 2017 (Forum)
About a month ago the engine on my 4 year old Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI suffered a catastrophic failure (the car had done 40000 miles. the reason, 'the timing chain slipped', the cause, no idea said the garage. Could it happen again I asked, maybe said the garage! -
Never had this conundrum before....what do I buy? 15 Jan 2017 (Forum)
I've never had a problem deciding on my next car but I have now. I currently drive a Volvo S60 on a 61-plate and have to change it within the next few months as it has hit my company's age limit - I'm on the company car opt-out so receive a monthly payment towards buying and running my car. -
Ford Focus ecoboost 1.0 ltr - 100 - Vibration on tickover 30 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I noticed a small water leak in a 2 year 9 month old car - looked ilke water pump area - took it to local Ford dealer who said it wasnt water pump but was serious and advised not to drive and was covered under warranty. Dealer couldnt obtain parts in UK and had to source from Germany and the car would be needed for two days - I think he said it was the main engine seal but not totally sure of that decription. -
Jaguar F type - any good lawyers specialising in car miss selling? 20 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Long story short - I ended up buying a flood damaged 3 month old F Type which did not have a Jaguar warranty (invalidated by the flood damage). Trader I bought it from knew of the Insurance history of the car (he bought it from auction which stated that it was part of a fleet flood damage claim) - but forgot to mention this in his advert/dealings etc. -
BMW 1 Series - Advice needed - reject options? 9 May 2016 (Forum)
This is not an old banger either, and was not cheap. Does anyone have any advice that might help me. If so, would be highly appreciated. -
Toyota Corolla Verso - Error code P0400 EGR valve 14 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I have no idea what I'm talking about so please bare with me. We have a Corolla Verso T180 D4D bought new in 2006. We were sold the car as a family car, which was ideal. It ran like a dream until we started having problems with the engine maintenance lights coming on which showed a fault with the EGR valve, around April 2008. -
Which car to go for? 8 Jul 2015 (Forum)
We've been living overseas for the last four years but will return to the UK next month. We are a family of four (1 and 5 year old) and will be living near Gloucester but travelling to London at least once a fortnight. The car will also be used for the school run and commute. We have been driving a XC90, which we bought new and loved, but won't be bringing back to the UK. -

Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi 2007 - Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi turbo going? What to do? 16 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I have a 2007 Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi, with 64k miles (90% motorway driving at 70-80mph). The car has basically been 100% reliable since I bought it when it was nine months old, but recently it has starting 'hestitating' during driving. It feels like a momentary (less than a second) loss of power and usually happens when cruising on a light throttle or pulling away from a junction. -
Nissan Leaf - New Nissan Leaf for £18K - A Great deal 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I've also got solar panels on my roof so I recharge the car for FREE. -
Nissan Note - Metallic chain like rattle. 5 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I believe the car has a cam belt, not a chain which was my first thought, the oil level is fine, (the car seems to use very little oil), it's done 38k and is not quite 4 years old, a belt change is due 72k or 5 years, so essentially I'll need to replace the belt within a year, unless someone can make another recommendation. -
Peugeot 306 XSi - Overheating: head-gasket / thermostat / other? 30 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Also noticed light-grey smoke coming from exhaust-pipe with some water residue - although this smoke only appeared when I really revved the engine. It is an OLD car, mid-90s...what other specific tests can I carry out to identify whether this is radiator-based or head-gasket? Many thanks for any/all advice -
Nissan Micra - What car to buy? 27 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I have heard that Ford Focus has good fuel economy and I liked the idea of a Golf but then I read the prices and they're too expensive..... Ideally I'd look to buy a 1 to 2 year old car. Any advice gratefully received! -
Ford Mondeo TDCi. 2.0. 130bhp. 2006, 100k. - Interior air quality.... filters... 4 Sep 2011 (Forum)
In fact I react to about 40% of cars... brand new ones are definitely out of the question because of the off-gassing and anything too old can often make me feel rough too. Anyway, back to the Mondeo, I've found I am reacting a bit when inside this. -
Ford Ka2 - Are Ford being helpful? 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Why the battery, the car has never shown any other electric problems, always starts first time, the headlights do not surge when you big a big deman on the electrics and there is no other sign of any electric issues. The car is only 18 months old and had done 6K miles. -
