Focus 1.6 zetec auto - 2006 Ford Focus Not Always Start(?) 15 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Difficult one this to put it in basic terms but 70% time the car will start first time, that said the rest of the 30% it wont. What i get is when you turn the ignition nothing happens, you can hear the fuel pump and all the lights come on as expected on start up but the immobilizer stops the car from starting. If i take out the key, open close/lock unlock the doors and try again it will turn over and start on the button. -
FIAT DUCATO 2.0 JTD 2004 - FIAT DUCATO 2004 ENGINE CUTTING OUT 15 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I have changed the EGR valve and just about every sensor, I have also put a computer on it which gives an error code saying ''Invalid signal from the Fuel pressure censor''. Any ideas? It's driving me nuts. -
Used car under 2k 3 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Looking to buy a car that's under 2k that hopefully can fit the following criteria: under 10-12 years old cheap to run - owned a VW Passat until now and 90% of the work on it I've done myself with parts being cheap and internet full of guides saloon/hatchback(5 doors)- definetly don't want it to be bigger size than passat 1.6 - 1.8 engine - owned only 1.9tdi engines until know and while fun I think I should go for a 1.6 to 1.8 to lower the fuel cost while not making the car feel too sluggish under 100k mileage reliable, maybe even fun to drive Am I asking for too much under 2k? I was looking at the Ford Focus, golfs and some Mazda's but I have no idea how reliable or good to run are they as a make/model. -
Diesel engine life 17 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I have heard of more conventional diesels - pre common rails- doing 3-400k ( peug, citroen and renault laguna) but id be interested to what sort of milage a new style - eg common rail- diesel engine would last for before major engine trouble 2/ Do likes of fuel pump, turbo, injector, head gasket failure usually happen on a diesel engine before main engine wear? 3/ Has the vast increase in power output on modern diesels had a detrimaental effect on diesel engine life?? -
Is diesel suitable for my situation 8 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I'm in the market for a new used estate car, something sub-£10k with reasonable fuel consumption. I had ear-marked something Golf-based, like the Octavia or Leon with the new TSI engine which I can just about stretch to within budget. I have disregarded diesels because a) I've had bad experiences in the past and b) I don't think it suits my situation. -

BMW 116i n45 2006 manufacture year 2005 - Car cranks but will not start 16 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I drove it to the store about 5 miles that morning came home got back in it 3 hours later and it just cranks but, will not start. Fuel is pumping good. The car was running smooth without an problems or knocking etc. I also had it serviced oil changes etc 3 weeks prior and also put new spark plugs in. I plugged in code reader and got the P0011 code regarding cam shaft position forward. -
Drink driving and me - Thought I'd be good? 7 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I accept that had we known in advance we could have got cheaper tickets so would have been only £112 ish but if our lovely railways want off peak travellers then they have to be competitive with the car. Fuel cost about 20 and using the rate of 45p a mile still only makes £72 . On top of which the last time i took a greater anglia train, the toilet was overflowing (and not locked) no buffet service and suddenlyy the train was stopped, cancelled and we were left to wait on a freezing platform for the next one. -
Ford Bantam LDV (based on Mk 4 Fiesta) - Radiator fan comes on when glow plugs go out 10 Oct 2015 (Forum)
It has the Endura DE diesel motor and was running nicely when all of a sudden it became sluggish to start. I replaced the fuel lines to ensure that there is no air in the system, and also replaced the glow plugs. The motor then fired up immediately, but I then saw on a voltmeter that I had fitted on the glow plugs lead that the glow plugs do not switch off, and that the wiring to the glow plugs is getting very hot and starting to melt the insulation! -
Worth being law abiding? 28 Sep 2015 (Forum)
And a fine of £130. Nothing more. Is it worth the risk cloning your own vehicle. Using this to get free fuel. Not pay VED or insurance. Imagine what you could save. And if caught get a fine like that. I'd say yes. Why do we bother forking out when the penalties are this lame. No deterrent for these scrotes. -
2003 astravan envoy g Mk4 1.7 tdi - cambelt timing 7 Jun 2015 (Forum)
hi i decided to change the cambelt on my astravan 1.7 tdi, got the oe kit from Vauxworld, and a 6mm/8mm bolt ready for the change, got van up on axlestand with drivers wheel off, removed the covers and got the crankshaft on the pointer and locked fuel and cam with the respective bolts. Trying to fit the new belt and pulleys is nigh on impossible, on looking i have locked timed the cam/pump at No 4 TDc not No 1, as the crank has not moved nor the pump/cam would this make it possible to replace as timed, as I have mentioned on the belt-tensioner pulley i need about another 4 teeth of slack to get it over and yes old belt has 130 teeth and new belt has 130 teeth, its driving me nuts, what should be a few hours work is now into day 3 aaaaarggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh. -
Peugeot Boxer Sevel X250 2.2l - Bad starting 7 May 2015 (Forum)
If I park it the other way round it starts on the first turn of the key. It seems to me, and I'm no expert, to be fuel related and I would be interested to hear from anyone with any thoughts on the problem. -
KIA Sportage 2.0 Auto - What has caused the engine to 'die'? 12 Apr 2015 (Forum)
This sounds like a timing issue, but do the symptoms bear this out? I thought maybe more of a fueling system problem?? Note that my friends have no mechanical knowledge and the mechanic probably speaks little English, I have trying to understand what is going on with fewer clues than normal! -
Volkswagen Polo 1.4 FSi 53 Reg - Vw Polo 1.4 FSi cutting out/idling problem 14 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Sometimes you could rescue the car by giving it some revs, sometimes now. Got the problem sorted for a good few weeks (replaced a fuel injector and NOx sensor). However, the problem started again less than two weeks ago. Took the car back to the mechanic and this time it needed a new EGR valve. Now this morning it does it again, thankfully as I'm pulling in to a parking space at work because I could not start it again! -
Mitsubishi GDI Carbon build-up 15 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Space Wagon 2.4GDI with 37000 on the clock. It has always been serviced by the main dealer, including the optional oil flush and fuel additive. I have always used 98 Oct petrol as well. Despite this I have started to notice all the signs of carbon build up within the engine.(rough running, poor starting, occasional tappet noise at low revs) A quick look at mitsubushi forums shows that almost everyone with a GDI engine (some volvo's too)has the smae problem, yet Mitsubishi only advise a strip down and clean up at approx £600, or replacement throttle body at much the same price. -
Eco Cars in General - Cars with Low CO2 benefits 9 Sep 2014 (Forum)
If (for example) the the diesel does 45 MPG and the Petrol 25 MPG then obviously you will personally be consuming less fuel / producing less CO2 with the diesel. However, wouldn't the overall effect on the environment in general be the same regardless of what you buy as the petrol version you didn't buy will still be rolling around emitting higher CO2 - just with someone else driving it! -
Who buys expensive cars? 30 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I thinking of something like £30,000-£50,000. In addition to the purchase cost, these vehicles of cost a lot to insurance, maintain and fuel. How much do these people earn? Are most of these people earning over £100,000 or are they living in sheds? I've seen somebody who has a Porsche, but doesn't even have a driveway, it's just left on the grass outside his house. -
what to buy! 2 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Diesel is out of the question as I don't do enough miles and I work from home so not that worried about super fuel economy either. With that sort of money I'm not a looks or brand snob either! I love the Jeep Cherokee but my OH says I should stick with something sensible!! I Any advice gratefully received - but I won't blame you if all goes wrong either!! -
Ford Focus - Is my garage shafting me? 12 May 2014 (Forum)
A few minutes after the test I go to start the car and it won't. The mechanics check and then tell me that the fuel pump has gone, and that it needs to be replaced. I'm no mechanic but I Googled common indicators that may suggest the pump is about to go. I had none of these, and nothing was mentioned in the service. -
Ford Focus 1.8tdci 03 - Ford Focus 1.8tdci engine blown after work done 31 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Hi forum my first post, ok so I bought a focus 1.8tdci and had work done flywheel & clutch and full service and new cam belt kit, after driving the the car for approximately 5 miles while the car was stationary with the engine running, I quickly ran into shop for some ciggrettes leaving a friend in the car, the engine stalled by itself with a clink sound, now after towing the car back to the garage I had the work done the mechanics telling me the fuel pump seized leading to the new cam belt to snap. Does that sound right or is he having me on, and he made some kind off mistake love to hear from you guys and oh he asking for £500 for a second hand engine already spent near £500 on it
