Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - Smoking VAG TDI engine 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Oil consumption is negligible. but the fumes have a really acrid smell which is particularly noticible on a damp day. I am treating the fuel with Millers Diesel clean. Are there any othetr checks i can make to help reduce the fumes? Cheers, -
Ford Dealer in USA 27 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Then "wipers are squeaky - $29". That kind of made me wonder about the other items! Anyway the transmission fluid, oil change, fuel and air filter change came to $275 inclusive. -
Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - inconsistency of oil spec advice. 3 Sep 2007 (Forum)
So question being to people here is the 10w40 ok, I am presuming so and the only negative information I have found is perhaps a little more fuel consumption. s -
Magnets - New Snake Oil Nonsense 1 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Not naming it a s I am going to pretty scathing! The latest magnetic manifestations include the usual fuel line magnets but these work in a new way."- - The activated hydrogen and oxygen molecules bombard the combustion chamber, cleaning the injector nozzles and removing carbon and varnish build up" The next device is alleged to assist with Masculine Difficulties. -
KIA Pride (1991 - 2000) - slow clock 10 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I'm wondering if it's a low voltage problem. It always starts fine, no slow churning on the starter. I've also noticed the fuel level gauge reads substantially lower for the first few minutes of each journey, again leading me to suspect low voltage. I keep meaning to put a voltmeter across the battery, but it's one of those things I need to do after the car hasn't been used for a few days, just before I go out in it, and it gets forgotten about until I look at the clock and think damn! -
Scrapping at home - outlawed? 14 Jul 2007 (Forum)
To take an example, I dismantled a Citroen two years ago, sold the bits I didn't need and cut the bodyshell into parts that went to the scrap metal skip in the local council tip. Oils went there for disposal too and the petrol drained from the system into a very old fuel heater. DVLA were notified that I had scrapped it and that was that. Am I right in thinking it's not so easy now? Would a scrapyard take the bodyshell and V5 and officially scrap it for a fee? -
Air filter. Water cooling 22 Jun 2007 (Forum)
My question is, would a fine spray of cold water onto the cone damage the engine? Water injection has been looked into for years and considering that for every litre of fuel burned a litre of water is produced I'm not sure if it would cause any damage. I've always understood that cold damp air is denser, thus better for engine output. Ady... -
Y reg E Class v 55 reg Signum? 14 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I prefer what I see as the added security of a main dealer purchase and am prepared to sacrifice a bit of fuel ecomonomy (will accept high 30's mpg) for a little added performance My heart says go for a 5/6 year old E Class of 5 Series. My head says go for an unloved car with high depreciation, say 9-5, Signum, Mondeo. -
Ecoflow - anyone used these products 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
After an initial priming period to allow the product to clean out the engine, for example 1000+ miles, the product really does the business with a noticable increase in power and torgue coupled with an improvement in fuel economy, not to mention the reduction in emissions coming out of the exhaust pipe that were easily measurable. Their central heating system efficiency (gas - although it works for oil as well) increased so much that they had to turn down the thermostat to compenstate as the water was heating significantly quickly, cost savings paid for the product in less than a season of winter usage. -
Renault Clio 1.4 RT starting problem 3 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I came to start it yesterday and it did not fire up, although the engine did turn. Usually when you turn the ignition on you get a relay click under the bonnet, the fuel pump buzzes and the fast idol speed udjusts itself on the throttle body. It is not doing this? My friend who is a mechanic came to have a quick look yesterday and he bridged one of the relays and the car started but when you took the keys out the engine kept running but there was severe load on the alternator. -
1994 306 DT Bosch Pump Advice 20 May 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm looking at 306 DT on Flea bay very close to my house as a first car for my little brother.....it is a 1994 306 DT with a bosch pump. Now the chap say that she smokes well, he say that the previous own tweaked the fuel pump which make her go like hell but now she smokes (I know this is a common thing as I have done it myself before) Now, the chap says he has tried to 'reset' the pump but the car still smokes......which I find strange........ -
Rover 200, completely dead wont start 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Today I have replaced the starter motor and still nothing. The alarm light goes out on the dash, the fuel pump kicks in on ignition but turn the key to start and there is nothing except a click. What is strange is the clock goes blank when the key is in position 3. The headlights work fine and dont dim when trying to start. -
Ford Focus Instruments acting oddly 18 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Recently the dashboard instruments have started behaving oddly when I turn the ignition on to start the car. When the ignition key is turned to start the engine, all of the dials (temp, revs, speedo & fuel guage) spin round to their maximum points, before returning to their normal positions, as if they are resetting themselves, also the digital tripometer resets to zero (the total mileage indicator stays as it is though). -
golf gti mk2 13 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Its simple really I want to go faster without breaking the bank or having to head hunt VW"s top engineer from the fatherland,,, Was thinking more in the line of something I could do myself,,,eg.buy a few bits off tinternet and bolt them in,, It already has a power flow exhaust, but everything else is standard,,,,would the fuel/air need setting up for the exhaust like a bike does when you get a race can?ie, free flow air filter,,, also would a faster cam be a help or a combination of a few things give her a bit more steam? -
Golf 2000 Misfire on acceleration 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
There is a spark on every plug, but cyclinder number one made little difference when disconected until I cleaned the plug up. I then went on to think it was a fuel fault so added red-x to the tank and took it out for a 20min run and the problem seem to get worse. Whilst idling its fine but from just reving it causes it to splutter, and worsens under load (actually driving it) Help, Please!! -
Relucant honda cbr? 12 Jan 2007 (Forum)

I hooked it up to a car battery in an attempt to start it but no go! Tried jump starting it and it took of like a bullet.????????? Attempting to start it with the electric start it refuses to go, it turns over but just wont catch. -
Vectra Diesel Starting Problems... 31 Dec 2006 (Forum)
During the turning over there's initially a small amount of white smoke from the exhaust, and the engine doesn't fire at all for a good 2 minutes. I'm wondering if there's a fuel starvation problem? or maybe air getting into the system? Any ideas? Kind regards, Cyrill -
mpg and 'learning' ECUs 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
In modern ECUs, some of which are purported to be of the 'learning' type, how long does it take for fuel consumption to stabilize at the new driving style? If my Mondeo TDCi 5-speed has such an ECU (correct me if I'm wrong), then I have this evidence: If only I use the car for commuting for several tank-fulls, I will get just over 50 mpg. -
Another British Car Firm Gone... 2 Sep 2006 (Forum)
...Airfix went bust today. Well alright, they didn't make the real thing, but many a young lad from my generation fueled his lust for motors by gluing those little kits together. I can remember a Renault Dauphine, a two tone Sunbeam Rapier with whitewall tyres plus an E Type all suffering under my attempts with a tube of stringy Bostic. -
Vectra 3.2 - auction price guess & info 2 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Just it's also 224 miles away... Will it be much slower (or more to the point) less fun than a manual? Fuel bills are not a consideration (at least my company does one thing right!)
