ABS warning light has come on - what does it mean? 16 Sep 2013 (Ask HJ)
The ABS warning light has come on my 1995 Jaguar XJ6. Can you tell me what’s wrong? Is the care safe to drive, or should I take it to a garage? -
3 Simple Driving Safety Tips 29 Jan 2013 (Forum)
It is human nature to believe that they know what they are doing, particularly when they are drinking. 3. A simple rule to keep in mind for driving safely is common civility. If one allows others to go ahead, one can save various probable troubles on the road from happening. -

Ford Mondeo - Ford Mondeo mk3 - rattle 17 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Hi, question for you here - OK so just last week, whilst driving around a corner the engine temporally stalled for a split second, this was complemented with a screech from the drivers side of the engine, upon driving home there was a slight chaffing sound, i traced this to the idler pulley (packing in) and replaced myself. -
Driving Test No Show - By the DSA 18 Apr 2012 (Forum)
After a double driving lesson my daughter turned up at the test centre this morning for her appointment to find the place closed. Eventually staff turned up but they had no knowledge of the appointment and apparently the tester would not have been able to do the appointed route anyway (not sure about the last bit but was something like that) Daughter was given a complaint number to ring and sent on her way. -
Speed Awareness Course tips 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
It doesn’t matter where you are: if you can’t see a speed limit sign at any point, drive at 30mph until you see one. It’s safer.” “You should never stop looking for pedestrians. I even look under trucks and buses!” “If you’ve got to drive somewhere you’ve never driven before, try to go at least once before you really need to go – just so you’re not lost or rushing when you get there. -
h reg 1.3 escort - young driver insurance 17 Dec 2011 (Forum)
just been reading an article about engenie young drivers insurance very interesting including the part about fitting a device to monitor there driving to gain discounts on there insurance ,so i thought its worth a look and lets get a quote for my son.I couldnt believe the figures they came back with for a 17 yr old just passed there test with a 1.3 escort h reg as the vehicle £4682.00 and after they monitor the driving for 12 months it would be £4220.So i decided to go to compare the market for a quote and the cost was £2457.00,the ad for engenie was supposed to encourage young drivers to drive sensibly and gain good discounts it seems to me they are just trying to jump on the bandwagon of clobbering young drivers and grab a share of the market rather than help overcome an ever increasing problem. -
Vauxhall Omega - Vauxhall Omega 2.2 CD Auto Gearbox Problem 3 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Very occasionally, I will lose drive altogether for a few seconds as if I'd pressed an imaginary clutch pedal. I have heard that this is not an unknown problem on larger engined Vauxhall automatics. Obviously the momentary loss of drive is the most worrying problem. -
Selling an Untaxed/Un-MOT'd Car 18 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Some clarification much appreciated, The other half is selling her old motor, a tatty 206 that's been off road and out of use for about the past 6 months or so. Having been parked up it is of course on SORN and has no current MOT. It's now sat on the drive, awaiting somebody to hand over a couple of hundred beans and find a use for it. Obviously we'll advertise it as not legally roadworthy, but I'm curious as to our legal position if a buyer should decide to drive it away anyway. -
Advice needed - small car needed for city driving 21 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Would anyone be able to help me out and recommend some motors? I have a max £2k budget (credit card only sadly, so would have to be trade) and will be driving in the city every day, with a 4 hour motorway trip once a month. I don't have a large family (2 peeps + 1 small dog) so don't necessarily need a big car or a big engine. Would love to get something reliable so I don't fear the dashboard light of death each time I get in (it'd be a first!) -
'52 Vauxhall Omega 2.6 V6 Estate - Noise - Tyres ? Something Else ? 19 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Car is fiited with new-looking tyres branded "Sunny". So is it cheap tyres or something more sinister ? I'm off driving in Europe very soon, so need a bit of confidence in what I'm driving. If it's the tyres I can live with it and replace them at some stage. Cheers -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 01 2.0dti Loss of power and EML on 1 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Hi everyone. I'm looking for a bit of help please. My wife drives a zafira and recently it started to loss power and EML comes on after 3 or 4 miles driving. The crank shaft sensor has been replaced and it drives a bit better but when idling the engine seriously hunts causing lots of vibration. -
Mazda 2 / Ford Fiesta Titanium The Same???? 27 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Hi All, I have a late 2010 Mazda 2, 1.6 diesel sport. After 8 months I've decided I realy don't like the way this car feels or drives. I've been making enquiries at various garages about a Ford Fiesta,Ttitanium. I took one out for a test drive and loved how it felt and handled. One garage I called today laughed at me about changing to a Fiesta and said it's exactly the same as my Mazda. -

Mercedes Benz C320CDi - Mis-behaving 7 speed auto gearbox 7 Jul 2011 (Forum)
My Nov 2006 (56) W203 C320CDi estate is just lovely to drive but has recently started to occasionally refused to accelerate or change down when asked (even past kick-down point). Driving in 'sport' mode (holds gears longer) seemed a bit better but still occasional hesitation or refusal with gearchange needing to be forced manually. -
Renault grand scenic AUTO - Need to find someone who has a demonstrator 1 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I'm looking at replacements now, but the Renault dealer has told me he has NO chance of getting hold of an automatic for a test drive. I only have an auto licence, and as I'm short & disabled, I really need to test drive a vehicle, to make sure I can reach/see everything comfortably before I commit to a 3 yr lease I'm interested in the 1.5 dci auto, but any auto will do, as driving position/internal layout are more important than engine to me at this point. -
Test driving cars with no MOT 17 Dec 2010 (Forum)
MOT ran out whilst sitting on the forecourt in October. We are really interested in the vehicle and after a successful test drive there's a 95% chance we'd buy but as I understand it without an MOT this isn't legal. Is this correct? If he were to say that it is ok and we get pulled over would he be liable or us (As the driver)? -
E46 BMW 320d touring - Series 3 BMW winter tyres 8 Dec 2010 (Forum)
The tyres are unbelivable, this last week we have had, snow, packed down snow, slush, and ice but the tyres just grip in all these conditions. We have to drive up a North facing steep side road that is never treated, normally the rear wheel driven BMW cannot get up the slope, now it just drives up without any difficulty. The tyres have managed all the local snow covered hills with ease they seem as good as any 4 wheel drive. -
Ford Focus - Ford Focus '99 1.6 zetec fan & temp reading prob. 21 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Hi everyone, i have a problem with my Ford Focus, after about 10-15mins of "normal" driving the cooling fan will come on even though the temperature gauge is halfway and reading normal. The fan will go off after about 30 seconds but will come on every so often. Also when i'm driving at speed uphill the temperature needle will suddenly jump up to over 3/4 up the gauge, when driving conditions return to normal the gauge will go back to halfway, i'm also assuming the fan is coming on. -
Two speeding tickets in two days 17 Apr 2010 (Forum)
The camera is not a normal Gatso - was fixed but doesn't flash apparently. My wife and i are both retired and drive the same car and we're up and down there all day as our daughter has a new baby. Not sure who was driving but they want to know. Neither of us has any points and we've had driving licenses for nearly forty years. any advice on how we deal with these?
