Anti-dive Xantia - sitting on it's heels 9 Apr 2002 (Forum)
The car has done 135K+ and has been serviced every 6K, I?ve checked the LHM level (at full height) and it?s at the top level, The rear sphere where replaced (for new items) at 129K, and yes, the car is set for the correct height. Any ideas what may be the cause ? Chad.R PS. I remember from my last post, Darcy mentioned that my accumulator sphere may be on the way out ? -
Sorted! 18 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I test drove it today, and have bought it for £325. with new tyres, new windscreen, stainless steel exhaust and fsh. No rust visible anywhere. It?s the same colour as my present car, so I won?t lose it in car parks! So, a result! A ?new? car for the price of a new speedo. head and windscreen, and I?m a happy bunny.. Long live Bangernomics! RTA & Driving Licences 28 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I know these are the queries I normally answer myself, but here`s one I don`t know the answer to. If a non-UK citizen is in the UK they are able to drive on their "foreign" driving licence for a length of time. This length of time depends on the circumstances, but that isn`t my point. -
BMW 320 handling 21 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Has anyone had this experience and/or can suggest a cause? I have a 1995ish K reg BMW 320i (E36) coupe auto. I've had 320's before and the handling was always great. So it was on this current car for a while until a few months ago when I started to experience poor handling in the sense that the front wheels seem to skate around on the road when the road is rough. -
Your opinion of MG Rovers please! 4 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I would be *very* grateful if you could e-mail me to the above address any comments you have on the strategy used by MG to market their product(s) and your opinion on the success of this. The main focus is on the *image* that MG has portrayed through their ads and whether that matches your opinion and whether it has altered your opinon of MG and not on the actual product itself although I would be grateful for any feedback. -
Who was driving Speed Cameras 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Perhaps some people even take a driving test and apply for a licence in a false name - used to put the points on? Clearly the police and government know that this goes on and perhaps other similar ?scam?s, but they do nothing about it. Does this not prove that speed cameras are used mainly for generating revenue and have little to do with road safety? Tom -
Mopeds. 20 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I've been nattering to a local lad, Jamie is his name. He is the proud owner of a 'Y' plate Honda XR8 S moped. He's owned it for about 6 weeks and he loves it to bits, so he tells me. We chatted about what it cost him to buy, and the cost of running it. Here are the figures: Cost of moped £1600. Insurance £300 per year Tax £15 per year Fuel £4.40 per tank Mpg ? -
OAP ZX TD Problem 5 Jul 2001 (Forum)
There is a significant vibration coming from the front wheels which is road speed related (as opposed to engine speed). I've done the obvious (wheel balance, changed both driveshafts and N/s front wheel bearing without improvement). Before I change the other bearing any ideas? Second guessing at the answer is a gearbox failure resulting in vibration likely (no metallic pieces in drained g/box oil)? -
Oil labelling explained 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Put simply, A3/B3, A5/B5 and C3 oils are the better quality, stay in grade performance oils. APPROVALS Many oils mention various OEM?s on the bottle, the most common in the UK being VW, MB or BMW but do not be misled into thinking that you are buying a top oil because of this. Oil Companies send their oils to OEM?s for approval however some older specs are easily achieved and can be done so with the cheapest of mineral oils. -

Where have all the good cars gone? 23 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Several pieces of body damage have been very cheaply repaired too, the latest being a repaint of the N/S rear quarter and bumper which cost £90!!! You can imagine the standard, it looks like someone’s hit it with a rattle can and he’s not alone in this. I’ve recently viewed countless Fiesta’s, Mazda 2’s, Suzuki Swift’s and VW Polo’s with almost all having some very poor paint repairs that’ll soon become very tatty. -
Subaru Impreza 2.0 - performance flatspot 21 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Hi, i have a 2006 impreza 2.0 r engine . i bought the car from the previous owner in may 2015. for 1 month the car worked well. as soon as you touch the gas pedal it will shoot off, acceleration great and top speed about 190 km. as soon as i changed the rim and tyres it died. it had 16's and i put 17's, but the manual said i can make that change. it started to flat spot bad and go dead. it will crawl up small hills gas pedal to board. on flat roads as well, flat spot, dead, no acceleration. then suddenly it will take off again with a spurt but will soon die down again. on the highway 3rd and 4th gears no problems. it will fly. but it never worked again as it did the first month. -

hi, i have a 2006 impreza 2.0 r engine . i bought the car from the previous owner in may 2015. for 1 month the car worked well. as soon as you touch the gas pedal it will shoot off, acceleration great and top speed about 190 km. as soon as i changed the rim and tyres it died. it had 16's and i put 17's, but the manual said i can make that change. it started to flat spot bad and go dead. it will crawl up small hills gas pedal to board. on flat roads as well, flat spot, dead, no acceleration. then suddenly it will take off again with a spurt but will soon die down again. on the highway 3rd and 4th gears no problems. it will fly. but it never worked again as it did the first month.i have tried to reset the ecu, but it will work better just for about 2 days and then go back again to working horribly. i have been to 5 mechanics . they said the changing of the rims will not cause that, just coincidence. i have changed new fuel filter with regulator. also the fuel pump. we put a gauge to check the psi of the pump and it held up fine- no problems.serviced the air filter. i changed the knock sensor. i replaced the air flow sensor. i serviced the injectors and throttle body four times at different mechanics. i changed the timing belt and tension-er and pulleys - . i changed the engine and transmission oils. i changed the spark plugs. sometimes on the highway the 4th gear will take long to go in and when i try to kick down, it will not and the same gear will run. the 1st and second gear will sometimes go in with a hard buck.when i apply brakes to stop, while slowing down i can feel the hard buck from the engine or there abouts as the car comes to a stop.i scanned the car at 6 mechanics! -

- is it sufficient to stop the car from being started after 2 days (bearing in mind the car would not start on 9 volts and it?s a 2.7 ltr diesel)? - should the measured drain have increased with the alarm armed? - anything else I can check or any other ideas? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -
Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - Car from trader- timing belt broken. 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
On 8/06/2009, I bought a 1999 Vauxhall Astra from a trader for £850. I purchased this car as a surprise gift for my wife?s 30th birthday. I kept the car at my work address until the 25th of June, just before my wife?s birthday. The only driving that was done during this period was from the garage to my place of work (10 miles). -
VED correspondence with Tory MP 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
And incidentally requiring that production energy to be spent again on a new car. 3) The car gets sold on. The owner takes a massive hit in the car value thanks to Mr. Darling, but it?s still on the road, it?s still doing exactly what it was before When the VED rates were changed previously in 2006 they were only applied to cars produced from that point on. Changing that strategy now will mean leaving a lot of people who had budgeted sensibly massively out of pocket, and is morally very dubious in my opinion. -
Cheques & Drafts 29 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Although cheque use has fallen over the last few years, cheques remain important for certain customers in certain situations. Whether it?s a small business or someone selling a car, there are many occasions where cheques still get handed over. These changes will really benefit anyone paying in a cheque, offering them certainty and clarity on when the money has cleared and giving real peace of mind.?
