Renault Laguna (1994 - 2001) - 00 1.9 oil leak 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
since fitting my car with a new starter motor, i have filled my car with oil 3 times and overnight it has emptied, i am scratching my head as to how the oil is escaping without the engine running as i cannot see a leak anywhere, i have checked the filter and sump nut and they're both fine, i have also just fitted a new intercooler pipe on the turbo as the last one had perished so no oil coming from there. anyone any ideas? -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 2.0 tdci strarting problem 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
When you turn the key in the morning the glow plug light only lights for 1 second max and then you turn the key and it starts with no problems and then stops and the glow plug light comes back on for another second or two. You then try again and it will allways start. Once it has started it will run and start for the rest of the day no problem. Any suggesions would be great -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 99 1.9 Wont hold diesel in fuel pipe 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have primed the system on my peugeot 206 1.9 diesel 1999, now when i try to start it the fuel runs back down the pipe to the filter. Does anyone know why and what to do to correct it? Someone has suggested putting a non return valve into the diesel feed pipe saying this will cure it again does anyone have any idea if this would work and could I do this myself? -
Best - `bread and butter` petrol engine under 1.2 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Basically, this is trying to define the best little engine found in bread and butter motors - that typically run around the City and get passed through several owners. Considering servicing costs + ease of servicing and known weaknesses, as the only parameters for the sake of this thread. Thoughts? Regards oilrag -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 96 1.5 Can a cyl head from a tud3 fit on a tud5? 14 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have a 106 with a 1.5 tud5 diesel engine that the head gasket has gone on, i have the option of a running 1.4 tud3 diesel engine to swap in but if it is possible to use the 1.4 head on the 1.5 engine i would prefer to do that as i prefer the cast iron block engine. What i don't want to do is split the runner to find if i need the head that i can't use it. many thanks for any contributions on this matter. -
Tool replacement 8 Jan 2010 (Forum)
any pointers from the experts would be welcome. ive enrolled for a mechanics course at the leicester college nothing serious but a general starter course, at the end of the day anything that helps cut down on running costs and servicing/repairs has to be a step in the right direction.......cheers zoo -

Car Mat cleaning machines (USA style) in UK? 10 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I have NEVER seen one in UK. Has anyone seen one preferably in the Herts area? I really need to run my mats through something like this, no amount of hoovering will do what I want (wash, scrub and dry), yet hiring a carpet cleaning machine to do a few car mats is not justifiable. Guy -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 05 2.0TDi 4motion - Siren Noise 26 Nov 2009 (Forum)
When the engine is accelerating and de-accelerating i hear a small like siren noise coming from the car. This happens most and at it's loudest when the car hits smaller revs. The car runs fine but this noise is starting to irritate me. Do i have a major problem here?? Have any of you experienced this or know what's causing this? Thanks in advance Lee -

On one occasion, no response fom starter at all for about 10 mins, but then started fine - does any of this involve the immobiliser or are they separate problems? Mostly the van runs fine despite the dashboard. What can I do to cure the dash problem? thanks Sparrowman -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 Sudden misfire on cylinders 1 and 4 25 Oct 2009 (Forum)
hi Car suddenly quit. left it with local garage who Changed the following: Coil pack Leads plugs These had no effect at all, The mechanic said he disconnected the leads on 1 and 4 whilst running and there is no difference. His computer apparently said feed 1 and feed 2 at coil not present. he did not give me codes. I have now left it at another garage as they told me they couldnt do much with it as it is a electrical problem. -

Where have all the flies gone? 1 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I'm sure my windscreen no longer gets caked in flies after a fast run like it used to. This begs a few questions: Are there fewer flies around, and if so, why is this? Or are there the same number of flies, but fewer hitting my car? Cars are more aerodynamic and wipers are more efficient than ever, so you might not notice flies so much. -
Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 1996 1.9 Cooling Fan 25 Sep 2009 (Forum)
One of the cooling fans on my 1996 405 TD is running constantly with the ignition on. The guy i bought from said his mechanic rewired it like that as the previous engine had overheated. I have checked the 3 relays and all the wiring is intact and doesn't look like it's been touched. -
Car damaged by rugby ball. 21 Sep 2009 (Forum)
the ball flies through the air and lands , with a huge thud, on the car's front NS wing, leaving a ball-sized dent. Ref blows for full time. Ouch... Nobody came running Subject header given a less vague title, and one that doesn't upset the swear filter -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 1.8 zetec black top lost power 3 Sep 2009 (Forum)
V reg Mondeo with 90K miles on the clock has suddenly lost power. It starts OK and doesn't run rough but will not rev freely and struggles to get past 70. All fluids etc are OK and no obvious faults or noises. Anyone else have this problem, know the cure? My thoughts are either (god forbid) cam belt has slipped a tooth or the Mass air sensor is shot. -
Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - 05 1.8 Climate Control System Problem 28 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The original problem was that the heater/aircon fan continued running after the engine was switched off, eventually flattening the battery. The garage's (Vauxhall dealer) reponse was to replace the air conditioning control unit. This did not cure the problem and introduced a new fault - the airflow is now wrongly directed, for example I have to select the windscreen vents to get air to come out of the fascia vents.
