  • Ford Focus TDCi 1.6 2006 - MOT fail excessive metered smoke 21 Jul 2017 (Forum)
She does potter around on short trips as a learner which is not good. It's had a new EGR valve recently as the EMS light was on. It runs very well but is a bit smokey at times considering it does also have a DPF. No EMS lights have ever come on though apart from the previous EGR fault, now all clear. It ran like a pig anyway with the EGR issue.
  • BMW 318d with 118K miles on it worth considering ? 21 Jul 2016 (Forum)
. -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N47 However can't deny the fact that there are probably hoards of users out there who haven't run into this problem and are probably oblivious. The car comes with 3 months warranty and I have the option of purchasing a 2 year warranty for £445. So technically even if I were to run into this issue within 2 year time, I should be covered by the dealership warranty ?
  • Vauxhall Corsa D - Fair price for in-family purchase 13 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The gear box oil was changed then as a precaution. Its been reliable but needs a couple of dents knocked out (hit and run), he thinks the clutch is on the way out and front brake pads are likely to be needed soon. It had an insurance repair (bonnet, grill, light and front wing) a couple of years ago but no chassis damage.
  • Ford Focus - Rattling noise 28 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Basically it has an intermittent engine rattle which sounds to me like pinking, this happens just as you apply light throttle for around 2-4 seconds. I have spent so much time and money trying to rectify this but I have now run out of ideas and things to replace. So far I have changed: Engine (the old one was using a lot of oil so I replaced it for a well maintained low mileage unit) CAT (had the original fitted so thought I would replace this) Up-stream (pre-cat) lambda sensor Spark plugs, leads and Coil pack (all genuine Ford) MAP sensor CHT sensor Knock sensor Fuel vaporizer ECU Fuel Filter Fuel pressure regulator PCV valve and breather pipes I have tried running the car on higher octane fuel and it made no difference.
  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus intermittent electrical failure 14 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I'm suspecting a connection, battery or alternator fault or short circuit, but the fact that it spontaneously cleared in inconsistent with anything I can think or, unless there is some form of self resetting trip switch? The car is now running ok I think, wife to scared to drive as she worried the whole thing will go dead whilst she'd driving along the road. Anybody had similar experiences or thoughts on what this might be?
  • Night-time Running Lights 6 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Sorry, but my goat has been got by lumens, yet again. I note that recent BMWs in particular are fitted with very white illumination of their rear numberplate....
  • Renault Master 1998 2.8td - Diesel not starting 15 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Right, the battery is good. Its turning over freely and quickly. There is no horrible smoke. When the van is running its only normal black smoke under load. There is no evident power loss when running. The van used to start instantly until last winter and then it started taking longer. I thought this was due to the fact I was in the french alps for winter (very cold) and I didn't use it much.
  • Nissan Serena - Problems with diesel fuel system 21 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The Nissan approach to help in such matters does not fit in the real world, have the vehicle brought in £180, run diagnostics until the fault is traced at £75 per hour.

  • Skoda - Skoda Citigo 1.0SE or Fabia 1.2SE 7 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I'm going to look at both tomorrow, however I would appreicate any opinions from owners of both these cars. And please, no one reply with "neither" lol. I did look at the soon to be run out Corsa but could only get a poverty spec 1.0 for the same money.
  • Toyota MR2 - brakes - hot rear discs 8 Mar 2013 (Forum)
This has been on motorways, A road, country backroads and some town driving. However, since the two discs were changed they have both been running constantly hot - over a distance of 12 miles and moderate braking you can burn the skin off your fingers, and hear the tink, tink, tink of cooling brake discs after the car has stopped. The discs heat up even if I don't use the brakes, or use them very gently.
  • VW Bora 1999 2.0 petrol - VW Bora Petrol Cuts out after 15-20 mins 14 Feb 2013 (Forum)
The Maf sensor can be disconnected and the ECU ignores it and goes to its default. So tried it and the engine still runs, when I get it to cut out ..doesnt matter whether it is still connected or not as will not start, so not going to default. The temp sensor (there is possibly 2) ..2 pin and 4 pin, both can be disconnected and the car still runs, again like the MAF once i got it to cut out it doesnt restart whether it is still connected or not.
  • Suzuki SX4 - Emission Warning Light. 12 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I suspect the cable was damaged when a new body part was fitted after someone bumped me when I braked and they didn't. The vehicle now runs normally with the light out. When the dealer ran the diagnostics the fault showed a catalytic converter problem, but I am sure this code could mean expensive part replacements that may not actually fix the reported problem.
  • Choose A4 or Volvo or Lexus or Subaru 10 Oct 2012 (Forum)
SInce i have limted budget(5000-5500 for car only), I have to choose luxury cars for some reasons. Automatically gear box is must becasue sometimes my wife will use it. I have gatered the following information posted by dealership as follows: 1.
  • Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 02 1.4 Intermittent Juddering & Severe Power Loss 15 Sep 2012 (Forum)
It tended to occur on shorter journeys of up to about half an hour, whilst the car was warming to full running temperature. 2. On a couple of occasions I have been travelling on a dual-carriageway when the car has suddenly lost power to the extent that it slows to a halt. There is no response from the engine when the accelerator is depressed, however if I turn off the ignition leave it 30 seconds and restart the problem has disappeared.
  • BMW 5 Series E60 - Tyre Failure - Warranty Claim 30 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Hi Last year I fitted two run flat Dunlop SP Sports to the front of my 200 520D.  The other day I noticed a crack inside the tread in an area of the tyre which is not in contact with the road in anyway.  Closer inspection shows it runs all the way around both of the tyres.
  • Toyota RAV4 Automatic 2003 120000 miles - Erratic problem pulling in low gears 21 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Erratic problem pulling in low gears The symptoms are: 1. Every now and again the car will really not like to gain speed form low speed. Other days it runs OK 2. On a few occasions the engine has raced when 1. above happens My local garage had recently serviced the car and agreed to check it out again as the problem started after the service.
  • Peugeot 307CC - Water in the wiring? 29 Oct 2011 (Forum)
My wife’s Peugeot 307CC developed a cooling problem. After returning from 30+ miles of motorway driving the engine was running cool, water and oil temp gauges both low and the radiator fan was on continuously. The cooling system header tank showed a water level between min and max so not much water had leaked out. The fault may have existed for a day or two without detection as only short journeys had been undertaken on the previous day.
  • Volkswagen Golf III - cam belt replacement and correct timing. 29 Jun 2011 (Forum)
i bought a new belt kit got the cam to tdc and the crank, fitted the belt and would not start, run or idle so i bought a new head off of ebay and fitted it new headgasket and proceeded to time it up as normal, managed to get it to run using the throttle but still would not idle and the timing was out as it was backfiring up the intake, numerous days and hours spent adjusting timing and still no improvement i went back to my old head, stripped it and to my astonishment none of my valves were bent, so i cleaned the head up and the valves, reseated them into the head and put everything back together.
  • Audi A6 Saloon - Oil Light 19 May 2011 (Forum)
A new issue is that the water temp gauge drops to minimum in one step and then returns to its usual 90 ° C also in one step intermittently but not necessarily at the same time as the oil warning light so this may or may not be connected to the oil light fault. V6 Engine runs smoothly, sounds as good as a diesel ever does, no oil leaks at all, oil level is always at max on the dip stick, oil changed using correct grade regularly and oil is acceptably clean on a spot test, steady oil temp on gauge when running, fuel economy is as good as ever, all fluid levels are OK and no sign or smell of anything abnormally hot, turbocharger can be heard spinning down sweetly when engine is turned off.
