Ford Escort - ford escort help 12 Mar 2011 (Forum)
hey my father in law has just got a new car, ford escort 1.6 finesse. he picked the motor up drove 3 miles downt he road and it just cut out, called rac to help they said it could be something to do with having a blockage in the catolic converter/exhaust, after the rac man left he noticed a sticker on the visor saying it had a fuel cut off switch so he found that and pushed it. now it is starting but wont run he has felt the exhauset for cold spots n nothing it all hot, checked the lambda sensor, cleaner sark plusgs but cannot think off anything due to not really much about motors. -
Good ground clearence what to buy? 6 Mar 2011 (Forum)
We currently run a Nissan X trial as the daily commuter vehicle, 60 mile round trip rural roads, which starts and ends with a mile of rough track. It's due for replacement and with rising fuel prices and both working in the NHS so on a pay freeze we need to find something a bit more economical, 4 wheel drive is not important as we have several Land Rovers if the going gets rough, ground clearence is, size is not overly important as there is usualy only the wife and I, but we are used to high-up vehciles, with a bit of comfort and good drivabilty, we are both the wrong side of forty so not boy racers but we don't plod around at 45mph either. -
VW Golf Mk3 1.4cl - Sluggish on cold start 4 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Is now struggling to start in the cold (sometimes needs a bit more throttle to get going) and is sluggish until warmed up. Am still getting flat spots (although alot less) and seems to be using a bit more fuel than it should (get around 60/65 miles to a tenner). I know the dizzy cap needs doing but as it only has probs in the cold, not sure if this would be the cause? Any ideas?? Thanks, Jules. -
Nissan Micra 1.4SE Sep 2000 - Excess mpg - Air Temp reads constant 42 C 29 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi - the car is using way too much fuel - about 20 mpg. Supposedly recent MOT (bought the car from a dealer - MOT is one month ago.) I have a simple diagnostic tool (ELM327) to read the diagnostics. There is a warning that the cat converter is out of limits but I doubt that has anything to do with it. -
Jeep Cherokee 4l, 1993 - Not starting and stalling 28 Jan 2011 (Forum)
My Jeep runs on both Petrol and LPG. Sometimes she fires up fine on either fuel and purrs like a kitten. Turn her off and she will just not start. Leave it for a few hours and she starts again. So frustrating. Twice had to be recovered. She has new plugs, ht leads, distributor cap and rotor arm. -
Peugeot 306 HDi - Bizarre starting problem with 306 HDi 12 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Bit of a strange one this so I am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on it I have a 306 HDi that at face value wont start, if however I feed a static 12v feed to the pump which at the moment is via the cigar lighter socket it starts and runs perfectly everytime and whilst running I have voltage at the plug for the pump But if I put the plug back into the pump it turns over but wont start which doesnt seem to make much sense Could this be something as silly as the seal between the LP pump and the fuel tank letting air in, and running the pump constantly via the cigar lighter socket prior to ignition is compensating in some way for the poor seal? -
Honda Accord - Petrol in diesel car 2 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Car was absolutely fine, nothing abnormal like no hickups, smoke from the exhaust etc.. What shall I do now? Shall I get the tank drained completely and replace the fuel filtre (suggested by someone) or just drain about 20/30 litres from it and fill it up with diesel? Please help :-( -
Clio Starting Problem 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I've searched the forum and someone had a similar problem when the engine was hot and fixed it by replacing the Coolant Temperature Sensor but my problem seems to occur mostly when the engine is cold. Could it still be the sensor that needs replacing or something else? It'd definitely getting fuel and I replaced the plugs and leads to try and fix the problem but it's no better. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Stu. -
Daewoo Nexia - Daewoo Nexia, Ignition Problem 26 Oct 2010 (Forum)
(N Reg, 8 Valve) The car starts with no problems but after 10-15 mins when it is warmed up, the ignition just cuts off. Preliminary tests done show that there were no signals going to the fuel injector and to the HT transformer. Consequently the engine just cut out. I concluded that it was the ignition module located in the distributor that was at fault and had it replaced with a new one. -

But I'd be interested to hear diesel feedback. What is your experience of the petrol -- particularly of fuel economy on the 1.6 and 1.8? And any thoughts on the trim level? -

KIA Picanto - Kia Picanto Dashboard Dials dont illuminate?! 18 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Hi. I have a 59 plate Picanto and I'm sure the instrument panel (Speedo and fuel dials) used to light up even if the main headlights were off. So say I was going through a long tunnel, the dials are light up just enough to see them and I don't get done for speeding. Well they don't light up now? -
Honda Jazz 1.4 - Honda Jazz Service Rip off? 15 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I've just been quoted £330 for a service which consists of: Changing oil filter, brake fluid, fuel filter and pollen filter. I don't know what prices for servicing are meant to be but this seems a bit steep to me. What does everyone else think? Should i stick with Honda or find somewhere else to get the service done. -
Renault Cleo CDi (2002) - Renault Cleo CDi losing power 2 Jun 2010 (Forum)
My mechanic has diagnosed an air leak in the system but has so far been unable to pinpoint it, even after rigging a temporary line from the fuel tank to the engine to see if the air leak is between the two. Does anyone have any ideas about where the problem might lie? -
