  • How much less for pre-registered? 30 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I feel a bit cheap for asking but what do you think about this. My local Renault dealer will give me a £3400 discount on a Grand Scenic 1.9DCi, which I think is a terrific deal. It outdoes most of the brokers and seriously undercuts the whatcar target. I can get it a bit cheaper by using a broker that sells new but pre-registered cars.
  • What's the history of folding tin tops? 25 Oct 2004 (Forum)
In recent years, MB seems to have been first with the SLK and secondly with the SL, though lately both the Pug 206CC and 307CC along with Renault's new Megane Cabrio have got in on the act. What the definitive answer? Chad.
  • Anyone got any ideas ? 30 May 2004 (Forum)
Hi, This is yet another sad chapter in my Laguna II story. Late February, Renault finally replaced the gearbox in my new Laguna 1.9 dCi 120 estate (the six speed box). Now the same fault is beginning to appear and the garage are having as much difficulty finding this as the last one.

  • Megane head gasket? 2 Apr 2004 (Forum)
A colleague of mine has asked me for some advice on her parent's Renault Megane scenic, 1998 R reg, 1.6, which apparently broke down and required the attention of the AA. The AA man told them that there was oil in the water, indicating a head gasket problem. However, the mileage is only 53k.
  • Failed MOT on smoke emissions - diesel 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi, Can anyone point me in the right direction as to determin my recent MOT failure. I have a Renault Megane 1.9 turbo diesel - 1997, 75k on clock. It has failed the smoke test on the MOT - any ideas what could cause this. It was only a five minute journey to the MOT centre so it has been suggested that I put "some kind" of additive in the diesel and take it for a good run before having the smoke test re-done.
  • broken camshaft Scenic 6 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Renault Megane Scenic, 52,000 miles, cambelt replaced at 40k, the car lost revs whilst my wife was moving slowly in 2nd gear, car and wife came home C/O RAC with diagnosis "broken cambelt or toothless cambelt".
  • Mystery car 1 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Small, boxy little rag top which he reckoned looked 60's but was on a '91 'H' plate (possible late import?). Shape reminded him slightly of the Daf variomatic, but he's convinced it was either a Pug or a Renault? Also had a 'sport' badge on it somewhere apparently Any ideas guys? Our best guess so far is a Talbot Samba convertible which took the dealers 6 years to shift? Gareth
  • If you have kids, look at this 17 Aug 2003 (Forum)
To try and make amends to folks I have criticised (their cars, anyway) please accept this token from HF, Volvoman, eMBe, Renault Family and all the rest. It's not awards night but I know I can be abrasive. These are good posters who have helped me. http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/eng/papercraft This is a site your kids will love.

  • espace autobox oil 9 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I do the servicing on the car without problems these days, Apart from the Autobox oil change, or anything to do with the autobox. I cannot find any info in the two different manuals I have....it says give this to Renault. Unless they have some Robot to do this it cannot be rocket-science. From what I have been able to gleen...it goes something like ...engine running/in neutral....let the oil dribble-out of an inspection hole at a certain rate.
  • Car Recommendation? 21 Jan 2003 (Forum)
His criteria (as described to me) are: - "A bit different/stylish" (he doesn't need space) - "Not a convertible" - "Not a Citroen/Peugeot/Renault/Fiat/Alfa/Ford/Vauxhall" (!) - "Not a VW Golf" - "Reliable" He has between 10K and 12K to spend - any ideas? He's thinking of a used (yr 2000 on model) Toyota Celica although he doubts he'll be able to find one at this price/age/low mileage.
  • Head blown - advice req'd 4 Oct 2002 (Forum)
    3) What should I look out for after it's been changed? Are there any trouble signs I should look out for? Cheers, Lee (now suffering from Renault-based poverty syndrome)
  • Small engine - Big power 4 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Hi everyone, Question: how on earth does a basic 4 cylinder 1.4 produce 160bhp with a turbo? I am of course talking about one of the early re-incarnations of the Renault 5 turbo I. Is this some sort of theoretical peak value? Or does this model have a massive turbo with a spool up time akin glacial movement?? Other models with turbo have more realistic 110bhp etc... but l've seen this 160bhp business in more than a few places, so whats the explanation?
  • salvage cars??? 18 Sep 2001 (Forum)
i have been looking at two cars, the first is a (M) reg, citroen ax 1.0 spree, it had light front end damage, but has been repaired, only thing it needs is the bonnet painting the same colour as the rest of the car, it done 47.000 miles, has FSH, is a 1994 (M), and he wants £575. if you dont believe me, then his phone number is 07930 871770. the other car is a 1993 (L), renault clio 1.2 'oasis', it has light rear end damage to the back panel and tailgate, and is £495. and his number is 0191 5811821 or 0191 5131884. which one do you honestly think i should get.
  • LPG - The fuel of the future?? 5 Aug 2001 (Forum)
The Ford dealer did not have any information whatsoever. VW does not produce any LPG equipped cars. Renault have still not launched their models, they were meant to be available at the end of last year. Overall my experience is that the only option is to have a car converted which can have teething troubles/warranty implications.
  • Small MPV 7 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I need to replace my old Volvo and I have been looking at the mini MPV's by Renault, Nissan Citroen etc. I seem to have narrowed it down to the Tino and the Scenic, but they both have their pro's and con's, the Tino has the Nissan reliablity and has more space inside and looks ok from the outside, but is let down by the dash, plasticky and noisy wiper system(on the one I tried).
  • Can you improve your fuel economy by changing your driving style? 11 Mar 2012 (Ask HJ)
I suppose it's fair to say that all the EU fuel efficiency tests are carried out in the way described on the car fuel data glossary at www.directgov.co.uk...
  • My Renault Clio's engine has been found to be unrepairable - what's a fair price for the garage to charge for the work? 17 Jun 2010 (Ask HJ)
I own a 2000 1.4 Renault Clio with about 114,000 on the clock. The head gasket recently went so I took it to a local garage recommended by a work colleague....
