  • yours for mine? 29 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Several of the posts here about "what car to buy" suggest that many of us (who don't want to buy new) are genuinely not sure. You know you want to change, but to what? So how about swopping? Not sure about all the practicalities involved, but let's say you have a nice, well maintained vehicle.
  • Renault Espace 2.2DCi Poor Performance 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
It has been to my local Renault dealer numerous times and has had various remedies eg. new immobiliser, new ignition computer, new injectors. The end result is we get a working car back but the fault re-occurs on average every 8 months and results in a few days back at the dealership. Most recently the car now suffers from a lack of 'pull' in the lower gears 1st, 2nd and 3rd but appears fine at 50mph upwards.
  • Steel Wheel Blues 12 Jul 2001 (Forum)
An attractive paint colour cannot cost any more to apply than something that is just plain dull. Why then do car manufacturers produce wheels that look like some internal part of a machine that is not meant for the eye, and paint them in uninspiring matt black? They then have to cover their sins with a silver frisbee in order to inspire anyone to part with their wedge in order to buy the product.
  • What is the intermittent clutch problem on my 2004 Ford Focus? 1 Jun 2017 (Ask HJ)
I have a problem with the clutch pedal on my 2004 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi staying on the floor occasionally, causing no disengagement of the gears. I lift...
  • VW POLO 2023 - Is it right that I pay? 20 May 2024 (Forum)
Fast forward 4 days and they tell me it was due to a manufacturing error because a bung wasn’t tightened enough on the radiator before it was released, my issue is - I’d not long filled my own car up with fuel however having had a curtesy car for 4 days, is it right that I should have to cover the cost of refuelling it if my own car had an issue through no fault of my own? I could understand if I was the one to cause the issue however it’s only 7 months old (thankfully under warranty) and while I’m extremely grateful that I could be provided with a replacement, it’s also left me out of pocket for the fact I’ve had to now refuel a second car.
  • Volkswagen Polo - Polo 1.2 Timing chain pre-emptive measures 21 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Would getting a cheap OBD reader to check the car here and there help? It did recently have an oil service.  I do have a 3 month warrenty from the dealership that does cover a timing chain issue, should it happen in that period. Any help or advice would be appreciated!
  • Skoda Fabia - Skoda refuse warranty until the press get involved 22 Apr 2022 (Forum)
https://www.theguardian.com/money/2022/apr/20/skodas-refusal-to-honour-warranty-staggers-legal-experts I have had my fair share of warranty claims in the past and I have never come across this before - effectively, if the warranty is coming to the end of its life and you can't get the car in to the dealer on time (the dealer is fully booked) then tough - you're not covered.  I have had issues with cars in the weeks before the warranty expired and couldn't get the cars in before the warranty was up and never had an issue with a warranty claim - with dealers acknowledging the fault existed before the warranty expired.
  • 2014 Kuga Titanium X 1.6 Ecoboost 180 bhp - Ford unable to supply a new engine 29 Mar 2022 (Forum)
If an engine physically existed, I guess the order would not be cancelled. We have had no support from Ford at all apart from apologies.. No loan car. We are completely hung out to dry. We have lost three months VED so far, MOT and insurance cover. Car hire has cost a fortune plus the Kuga is on finance. Anyone else had the same problem with Ford?
  • honda frv - air con fault 3 months after purchase 28 Jul 2018 (Forum)
from what i have read i have 6 months to get the dealer to repair faults that were there when i bought the car. i would argue that with that amount of corrosion it woukd have been there when i bought the car. can anyone advise me on this?
  • For Mondeo 2010 Titanium X - Water Ingress corroded the wiring loom 25 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I took out a Ford warranty when I bought it.  The car was taken to my local ford dealer - not where I bought it from and they said its water ingress into the wiring loom and it's corroded part of the loom that connects to the battery - anyhow its £384 to fix it....and it's not covered by their warranty as its external factors!
  • Zafira a DTI 2L - Oil Leak and smell of burning oil in car. 19 May 2014 (Forum)
Came with a warrenty.  full service history.  After a few weeks got a smell of burning oil in the car.  Took to a garage and told head was leaking oil but not blown. Went back to dealer, who has offered to replace the gasket through warrenty but wont cover any further problems found when they take the head off.

  • Dealer won't repair faulty car - what can I do? 13 Feb 2014 (Ask HJ)

  • Skoda Yeti 2.0 tdi Elagance 170 bhp - Skoda Yeti Door Chipping and Bubbling 20 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The paint and cover strips are now peppered in chips and the paint is blistering. i'm absolutely fuming as I dont think a car of this age should be doing this. I've been told it's not happening with all the Yeti's. I'm still waiting to see if Skoda will rectify the problem again but not that hopeful as the car is out of warranty.
  • Can you recommend a used car that's suitable for family use? 3 Oct 2013 (Ask HJ)

  • Astra 1.7 LSTD, 1997 - Help - Sounds like a sewing machine! 23 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Had a new cambelt, tensioners and water pump approx 3-4K ago.  Took cam cover off at weekend and ran car but no sign of anything wrong there.  Also suspected alternator bearings, so disconnected fan belt, but noise still there. Its also not affected by dipping the clutch or whether in gear or neutral.
  • Having to take out dealer insurance to get taxed 15 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I am in the process of buying a used Mondeo from a franchised dealer (not a Ford Direct car). I will be collecting the car on Wednesday and do not yet have insurance. The dealership has told me that I will need to apply for 7 days free insurance via their scheme with Norwich Union, so that they can get the cover note in time to tax the car before Wednesday.
  • Mercedes Benz CLK W208 (1997 - 2002) - 01 200 Komp, possible O2 sensor problem? 27 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I have a 2001 CLK 200 Komp with 69,000 miles so far, that I bought secondhand two years ago. Within a couple of weeks after buying it the engine warning light came on although the car seemed to drive OK. O2 sensor was diagnosed by MB garage, but the car had only had a new one fitted six months previously so another one was installed under warranty. 18 months later after only having covered 8,000 miles since the new sensor I went to start the car the other day.
  • Buying a new car is nightmare 24 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Not being a Ford man what are the 1.4 engines like for reliability in fact what is the whole car like to own -- We only cover about 7k miles a year so diesel really doesn't make economic sense unless I could get one for same price - I asked and salesman said no diesels left -- As a cash buyer with no partX would I be able to bargain on price that is asked - I know it can't hurt to ask but realistically would a main Ford dealer move on sticker price. - if I wait till next weekend would the salesmen be jumping.
