  • Dies sulk 26 Sep 2009 (Ask HJ)
My 1.8 TDCi Mondeo (fuelled with Shell V Power diesel) is only returning an average fuel economy of 41mpg. The car has done just over 1,000 miles. Is this...

  • Could I buy a diesel Freelander 2 for short journeys? 4 May 2013 (Ask HJ)
I thought diesels were good for short runs. Is that not so? My daily commute is five miles each way. I ask because I am tempted by a Freelander 2. There’s...

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - How long do I have to reject a car 10 Jul 2008 (Forum)
It has only done 13k and has been serviced only be Ford and run only on Shell diesel (I used to use V-power diesel by now use the standard stuff since the prices went mad!).
  • Not enough torque pulling away. Clever Land Rover. 22 May 2021 (Forum)
I have tested it on very steep hills with a Range Rover classic on the trailer, the car does not need throttle, it somehow gives just enough power to stop it stalling. Revs don't seem to increase either, just moves on tickover. Very clever system.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jhuKLrjJLg I wonder why other brands havent done similar..

  • Toyota Corolla (1997 to 2002) - 99 1.3 loss of power in high gears 21 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I have a 1999 V-Reg Toyota Corolla 1.3 which I have owned for 3 years and has now done 92k. It has been perfectly reliable and I'm very happy with it, but in the last couple of months, it has lost power in the higher gears.
  • Tarmac v Monobloc 31 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Also, as it is quite a narrow driveway then the chances are that my car will be running on exactly the same "track" all the time. Would this cause sinking in one choice more than another? Any thoughts on the tarmac v monobloc debate would be appreciated.
  • Have BP or shell admitted to not enough detergent? 1 Feb 2018 (Forum)
But I have a clean engine and a need to choose between shell standard jungle juice and shell v-power, and if I can't get a power or MPG boost sufficient to offset the cost, the only thing that remains is the cleaning. One single BP rep or Shell rep stating that their standard fuels are not good enough at cleaning would be sufficient, but I've come up short finding them.

  • 207SW diesel 2008 - Changed habits 12 Sep 2022 (Forum)
Any suggestions?  I intend to monitor progress until needing more fuel, when I shall add some V-power, which usually has a detectable effect on running.
  • Any - Premium fuel ? 24 Jul 2020 (Forum)
"There is no independent data or research which shows that premium fuel is worth the extra money over standard fuel. Shell may promote the fact that their V Power is better for an engine but there is nothing to verify this. For the vast majority of cars on the road (performance cars and some classics excluded), standard 95RON fuel is more than adequate.
  • Vauxhall 1.7 CDTI 5 Oct 2004 (Forum)
We've been looking at old shape Astras and the low-spec CDTIs are going for about the same money as higher-spec DTIs. If there is no noticeable difference between the engines (MPG, Power, Noise etc) then choosing between the two would be much easier. Also, does anyone know if adjustable steering columns were standard on newer Astras?. Our V reg does not have one yet a friend's W reg does.
