Skoda Fabia 2 (2007 - ) - Car By Car Breakdown questions 23 Sep 2007 (Forum)
In Car-by-Car Breakdown, HJ comments on this car that the "Slow 1.2 3-cylinder (is) likely to share probelms of this engine". What are these problems? My new, 70 hp version has done about 600 miles and the only problem I can see is that the engine is too easy to redline in 1st. -

AutoAid Breakdown Insurance 9 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi Back Roomers, I'm looking to purchase breakdown cover/insurance for the first time in a while as I haven't included it to my car insurance policy this year. I only do 8,000 miles a year in a well maintained 7 year old Ford Mondeo Petrol. Auto Aid seem to offer a great price for breakdown insurance, where you claim back the cost of calling out recovery/assistance. -
Autoaid Breakdown Service 18 Aug 2009 (Forum)
However on reading the Autoaid wording, and phoning them to confirm, it would appear that this £37 covers the policyholder AND their spouse in whatever cars they drive!! (Interestingly one of the criteria is that the car must have a spare tyre!). OK I know its an insurance policy rather than staright forward breakdown cover, but £37 to take away the hassle involved in a breakdown for 2 different cars (or people in reality) is a great deal. -
Breakdown cover 3 Dec 2003 (Forum)
For what it is worth I have recently taken out breakdown cover with Breakdown Direct, as seen on the right hand side of this site. Their prices seem very competitive compared to the AA/RAC etc, but what swung if for me was that by buying their 301 cover, I also got "free" legal expenses cover. -
Short term european breakdown cover 20 Jun 2006 (Forum)
We are taking our car (1995 W124 Mercedes E class diesel) over to France for a couple of weeks this year on holiday. The car itself is in good condition, well maintained and will be serviced before we go. However it is of course highly advisable to take out breakdown cover and I would welcome any advice on who might provide the cover we need. -
Ford S-MAX 2.5T - European breakdown cover 8 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I am taking the car to France and Belgium for a few days. My breakdown cover (Call Assist - supplied by the dealer) is UK only. Can anyone provide recommendations for getting cover in Europe? My existing cover expires at the end of November, so I would consider starting a new 12 month policy and overlapping. -
Annual European Breakdown Cover 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have just renewed my annual European Breakdown cover with WorldWide Travel Insurance Services Ltd. , but it's a Green Flag Policy - yes, good old Green Flag and I couldn't find anything wrong with it at £69 - bargain.. £69 is the cost for a whole year (max 45 days any one trip) for a car less than 10 years old. -
New Topic ?? Reliability 20 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I?m always interested to hear stories of cars that never breakdown, have backroomers had any particularly outstanding experiences of reliability? (Apologies to those backroomers who make their living from repairing cars that do breakdown!) -

She does not venture out of town or on motorway. Her annual mileage is less than 4k. Looking for a reliable but cheap breakdown cover. Looking for prices for - 1. Cover that transports her and her car to her destination or home. 2. Cover that covers the above and also home start. Was wondering if there will be a cheaper supplier for her. -

AA/RAC/Greenflag etc' - Data on number of breakdowns 3 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Can anyone comment if breakdowns data held by the big recovery companies is available to the public? I was trying to look up some figures about a car we have at work (Zaffira 2017 Tourer) as it seems this vehicle is cursed and already caused some of us to get stuck and not reach meetings. -
Breakdown services, definition for entitlement 13 Apr 2008 (Forum)
What do you expect, or have experienced, with the various breakdown services? For example a headlight bulb on a long night trip. Assuming you are travelling overnight to get to a ferry, your car is one of those that needs some dismantling, but you carry a spare bulb. -
Breakdown cover renewal time, Any suggestions? 4 Sep 2016 (Forum)
As title, my breakdown cover is up for renewal again. Currently with the RAC on personal cover for 2 people. Price has gone up to £188 this time so I think time to shop around again. Rescue my car have come in at £88 for vehicle based mebership on 3 vehicles (2 cars and a small van(only used for SDP purposes)) The cars are both almost 16 years old and the van is 9 years old. -
Am I mad for not having breakdown cover? 9 Mar 2019 (Forum)
So this is prompted by a friendly argument I've had with a couple of family members. They think I'm nuts for having never had breakdown cover. I've been driving for 25+ years and in that time, despite driving some pretty ropey cars, I've broken down twice. In both cases I called up the nearest recovery firm and paid them cash to take me home or to a garage. -

Breakdown service recommendations? 28 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Can any backroomers recommend a basic (or better) cover at a more sensible price? It would preferably be car-based rather than personal, covering any driver, as my other two cars already have car-based cover. -
European Breakdown Cover 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
On looking closely at the inconclusive small print and speaking to their underwriters, GF also say car must be regularly serviced, but breakdown cover excluded if due to 'unsuccessful amateur servicing or repairs'. Personally I believe I lavish more care and attention on my car than the local garage would. -
Breakdown cover 20 Mar 2020 (Forum)
This has been discussed many times before but I thought it was worth a post to see if anyone had any advice or words of wisdom. It’s renewal time for my breakdown cover, which is for the Logan and the MX5. I’ve been with Autoaid for the last few years, but the renewal price has gone up from £43.31 to £59.99, which seems a bit of a hike. My car insurance are offering RAC cover for a supposed reduced rate of £109!
