Smoking while at a petrol station 29 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Was it as dangerous as I thought - o.k. the ash might cool quickly by the time it hits the ground, but the ground was still covered from the elements - so any excess fuel wouldn't be washed away as quickly as if it wasn't?? Why didn't I say anything to him? Well, he had the build of Geoff Capes (what a guy!) and I am allergic to pain. -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 1.5d - rough idle 23 Oct 2007 (Forum)
our 106 has recently had a cam belt done and hasnt really been right since. It has the following symptoms: Rough idling when hot or cold poor fuel economy blue smoke lumpy when running but not all the time Im unsure whether the timing belt has anything to do with the problem as I would have thought if the timing was out it would not be smooth all of the time rather than some of it. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - TDCi 2.2 - 05 plate - cold start up, greyish smoke 28 Sep 2007 (Forum)
On cold start up (usually) a large cloud of greyish smoke comes out of the exhaust (I can smell it whilst sat in the car) and the revs seems to hunt a little until the engine gets warm - my local Ford main dealer couldnt find anything wrong and I am about to ask him to look again. Once warmed up the car drives normally and fuel consumption is unchanged. Many thanks. {Subject header amended to include problem - DD} -
New Mondeo -- "feed forward" torque?? 6 Aug 2007 (Forum)
In the A*t*c*r road test of the estate, they comment on something called "feed forward" torque: "The 2.0-litre diesel has a re-mapped fuel system that helps pulling away from the line smoothly. Called ?feed forward?, it provides a pre-emptive boost of torque to the engine before setting off, and seems to work well." This is the only time I've seen this mentioned, is it just on the estate or is it on all models? -
What Daily Commuter Car? 10 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Will shortly be changing jobs to include 100 mile each way journey (Mon-Fri). Employer will be paying £380 per month flat rate for fuel, but purchasing and all other costs for the vehicle will come down to me. I am hoping to pick something up for about £5K and have been looking at Pug 406 HDI's - pref an 02/52 plate with approx 60k miles. -
Ideas for a functional estate circa £2k 25 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi All, My Dad's Pug 405 1.9TD estate is giving up the ghost and starting to burn more engine oil than fuel. So the hunt is on for a suitable replacement. Being a pensioner his budget is limited to circa £2k and I'm looking for something that is 'functional' - i.e. not bothered about colour, styling or extras. -

Focus 1.9 TDCi knock 23 May 2007 (Forum)
She tends to only do short journeys so I suspect that this is due to carbon build-up. I'm tempted to try an additive such as STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner for Diesel Engines and give the car a good long motorway drive. STP (and other similar) claim that their products are suitable for common rail diesels and cats. Grateful for any comments, suggestions, experiences, etc. -
7 Seater estate for less than £1000 23 May 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I am looking for suggestions for 7 seater estates, as I am looking to replace the escort in the next few months anyway and am finding that 2 or three times a month I could really use the extra seats, as we end up taking two cars, which gets expensive in fuel, or at other times making 2 trips. Ideally I'd like something like a Renault 21 estate, where all the seats are forward facing, as I would prefer the separate boot, rather than having the rearmost passengers share legroom with luggage. -
Urgent Help! Fiesta Zetec Keeps Stalling 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
This is even happening after she is warmed up. I had someone plug a hand help computer into the system. The fault came up with 'Fuel Too Rich'. So I have started to use Unleaded Super Plus but still have the same problem. According to the Ford manual it says to remove fuse no 34 if you have to put a lower octane petrol. This should overide the engine management system. -
Ford Focus Electric Window U/S 22 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi, Have a 2001 Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec with 95000 miles on clock. Apart from fuel costs it has cost me pennies to run so am reluctant to part with it. During the last couple of months the driver?s electrically operated window has gotten slower and slower until it finally stopped working today. -
Mondeo TDCi 130 ECU Update - Help 4 Apr 2007 (Forum)
We are happy with the car and have had no problems. I have read on this forum however than an ECU update was available that boosted fuel economy and improved performance. I phoned my local Ford dealer to see if they could determine whether the update had been done based on the reg number but they said they couldn't. Is there any way of finding out whether this update has been done? -
Excellium v Ultimate diesel? 10 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I notice my local Total station now has a pump for Excellium Diesel, which I assume is meant to be the equivalent of BP's Ultimate Diesel. Does anyone know whether it's the same fuel, or different - in which case, which one is best for mileage, performance, extending engine life, etc... (oh yes - and the environment, how could I forget). I run a 2.5 V6 TDi Passat, and having run on ordinary diesel and BP Ultimate, I can't say I've noticed any difference other than in my pocket, though I may be churning out less noxious fumes if that's what BP would claim. -
Mazda RX-8: reliable second hand buy? 23 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I have read the car by car breakdown. Bearing in mind I do 20,000 miles a year, I fully accept the high fuel and oil costs but I am not hoping the RX-8 will run to 150k without major engine work required, like my Nissan QX and Mondeo TDCi. Many thanks, Gazza -
suggestions please 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Don't need thrills just reliability and economy. I'm thinking diesel but some would argue that at current fuel prices this can be a false economy on smaller cars. budget is about £2k At the mo considering Corsa, Fiesta or polo but at this budget I can't find much that is less than 6yrs old and about 80k miles. -
C15 Diesel not starting 6 Nov 2006 (Forum)
My C15 (02 reg) diesel, which people helped me out with previously, has decided not to start. It turns over OK, it looks like fuel is getting through to the injector pump, I can't get to the injectors themselves to see if it is getting that far. Given that this is a sudden change, I am suspecting an electrical related problem. -
fiat punto 52 plate 1.2 dynamic 14 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Travelling on M1, aprx 70 mph - the engine coughed and sputtered twice, engine mngment light came on/fuel pump on dash (yellow) then foot down could only go 40/50 mph, any type of gradient only reaching max 30mph. I managed to get to my destination eventually. Had it towed to Fiat dealers tonight - anyone any ideas of what it could be, cost and why? -

hillman minx coil overheating 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
dad's got a hillman minx 1600, 1965 and it has started to misfire when it's hot, after about 5 miles, then it dies. he's changed the carb, fuel pump, spark plugs, and had the distributor apart, changed the condenser and points. the engine breather pipe is clear and the spark is nice and strong. the timing is bang on and the tappets are spot on.
